Respect Rappers?

I don't really respect most popular rappers at all simply because of the trash that they write about. I don't appreciate hearing about you screwing hos or putting caps in each other's asses.

That being said, there are certainly rap songs I can get into, even by the same people who write the trash I don't like.

I agree, most rappers can seriously go eat a bag of dicks for all I care. A limited few are at least decent, but the industry could do with a little culling of the fluff.

I don't respect rappers in general so I really can't vocalize any further opinions at this point.

Bottom line, rap sucks and is on its way out. It's fuckin' time for a rock revival.

Some rappers can rap in a way that sounds interesting and different. I can appreciate their rapping like I can appreciate Issac Brock's singing. It may not be technically impressive, but it sounds cool.

Rap lyrics are so base and juvenile that it doesn't really matter who writes them. It's not as though they're taking credit for anything particularly clever.

No, Jazz sucks and it's time for a Classical revival!

This is a hard one.. most the time I'd say not really... but then thinking back... Eazy-E never touched a pen.. Snoop Dogg had a lot of his stuff written for him when his stuff was hot... now he writes his own stuff and sucks.. I guess it just depends on the rapper....

of course the majority of the thread is rap sucks

anyway, i can respect anyone with a good flow but i wont respect them if they buy some real shitty lyrics

I dunno, to me you should have to be the complete package of skills, which would include penning your own rhymes and having good flow. Most of today's rappers don't do either particularly well.

Kanye is an ok producer and the world's best self-promoter.

I generally only listen to rap for the production aspect, though there are few rappers I respect (KRS One, Rakim, et al.) on a lyrical basis.

Why should rap be held to a higher standard than other genres? Aretha Franklin never wrote a damn thing. And she is diva fuck hot.

I don't particularly respect Aretha Franklin either. I have the same standards for each genre, and pretty much tend to listen to lesser known artists who do everything themselves.

aretha franklin has HUUUUGE cans. She's old now so they are probably down to her knees, but still, they're huge.

I was gonna say...

Artists not writing their own music isn't anything new. I think the only time such a thing could be looked down on is if an artist performs what appears to be a deeply personal song, to the point where he/she becomes the de facto "writer" when that's not the case.

For the topic at hand, I respect most underground rappers and very fewer major ones. It gets VERY old when you hear the same lyrics over and over about how many different posistions you fucked your bitch in last night after you shot up the neighborhood with your 9mm while rolling on 32s in mercedes benz while looking fly as hell. I can make exceptions if the lyrics are clever or the production is good, but otherwise, the shit is really tired. I prefer much more intellectual rappers.

As for the actual reason the thread was created, I respect the guy who wrote the lyrics more than the rapper who sang them.

LMAO yea i know thats in diamonds but what does that mean co writes or what.? Is there any articles or anything? And what are some other rappers that dont write their own rhymes?
Kanye's biggest achievement (as he sees it) is Jesus Walks, wich was pretty much all written by Rhymefest. Guys like Diddy and Dr Dre have never even touched a pen and about 90% of the rappers you find in the Billboard gets their songs from a recordpool, wich is a bunch of soon-to-be-large rappers that first have to write stuff for others before it's their time to shine.
