Returning Things to Amazon(.ca, but doubt that matters for my Qs)

I'm currently in the process of dealing with a (slightly) damaged item that was sent to me recently. I was wondering if anyone has any experience in returning items to Amazon.

They offered me a $5 refund to keep my Simpsons Season Two DVDs that have been marked, bent and won't quite fit the insert properly. This is understandable, since the DVDs themselves are more than fine. Considering they were on sale, I have to assume this is old stock that was banged around in a warehouse, and then shipped a little too tightly.

While I think this is generous, and I normally wouldn't have a problem keeping them due to these asthetic concerns, I have every ability to drive down to Future Shop and pay almost as much as this would be WITH refund for the same thing, and be able to pick and choose my copy.

I'd like to return it for a refund, but wonder how exactly the process works. It's in its original condition, so I should be guaranteed a refund? I'm paranoid they'll get back to me saying that it was unacceptable for refund, but I guess since I'm sending it back it's a fairly safe bet? The shrink wrap is off, but the damage should perhaps alleviate that concern.

So, is it a safe bet? Or am I risking having it sent back to me refusing the refund and I have two copies of the DVDs?

Thanks.

Amazon.ca is supposed to be run a little ass-backwards compared to Amazon.com, but here goes:

1) You have thirty days to return a product for a full refund, even if opened, as long as it's in like new conidition. (exceptions may be DVDs/music/videogames, but I know for example I bought an external capture card once from Pinnacle, didn't like it, and sent it back no questions asked)

2) If the product is damaged, (or anything else that's their fault) you can contact them and get a pre-paid mailing label printed out.

3) You can return anything else, as long as it doesn't have shipping restrictions (which are denoted on product pages) whenever you want, but for an 80% refund. For example, when I switched to organic bathroom products, I sent back tons of old stuff I had stocked up, like Suave, Listerine, etc, some dating back to orders about seven months old. Yes, I had to pay shipping, but I got an 80% refund on all the items. (un-opened)
