Do they release all the numbers there?
No, just trickles.

The first numbers (sales in millions).

Activision - $97.3
Just to compare, the first NPD numbers put Activision's sales at $113 million. :lol

Video game-software sales plunged 18% in November, according to a new research report, marking the third straight month of weak sales.

Midtier players Take-Two Interactive and THQ which saw their retail sales drop 63% and 32%, respectively, led the decline according to data from NPD Group obtained by TheStreet.com Tuesday.

The drop in overall sales came despite solid growth posted by Electronic Arts and Activision.

Coupled with other recent news from the industry, the new report, from industry research firm NPD Group, could portend a gloomy holiday season for the video game-software sector. Like most other consumer industries, video-game companies collect the lion's share of their sales in the holiday period.

Overall, retail video game-software sales in the U.S. fell from $849 million in November last year to $696 million last month, according to the confidential data from NPD, which was obtained by TheStreet.com.

EA maintained its position as the top-selling publisher, as its games garnered 20.6 of the retail sales market. Activision came in second with 14%.

Among public companies, the biggest percentage declines in sales were posted by Take-Two, THQ, Majesco and Atari .However, none of those declines was particularly surprising.

Atari and Majesco have been floundering for months, beset by management turmoil and poorly received products. Majesco's sales fell 63% to $5 million, while Atari's dropped 24% to $19 million.

Meanwhile, both Take-Two and THQ faced tough comparisons with last year, when both companies' results were boosted by hit products. Take-Two, for instance, saw its sales fall $37 million, from the $100 million it posted last November, when its results were dominated by Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Last November, THQ's sales swelled to $71 million with the popularity of its game based on Pixar's movie The Incredibles; this November, its sales fell to $48 million.

Other companies posted much better results. Activision, for instance, saw its sales jump 54% to $97 million, thanks to the latest versions of its Call of Duty and Tony Hawk franchises. EA's sales rose 8% to $143 million, led by the latest iterations of its Madden NFL and Need for Speed games.

Even though there were some specific reasons for some of the declines, the overall sales drop appears to be another bad sign for the overall industry, adding to other recent warnings that the holiday season could be an unhappy one for video-game companies.

Last week, EA warned that sales would be soft in December . Late last month, GameStop the leading video-game retailer, lowered its sales outlook for the holiday season.

Those warning signs succeeded a series of cautious statements by most of the video game-software companies in late October and early November about potentially disappointing earnings in the coming two quarters. NPD itself reported soft sales in September and October.

Oh dear oh dear.

Oh crud just when we thought it was dead....?

Yeah, the version they outsourced to another dev is better than the one they made. Who woulda thunk?

Didn't Activision acquire Vicarious Visions earlier this year? That would make them in-house.

Hmm... interesting software sales.

First person to guess the No. 1 game gets a tasty cookie.

Tony Hawk did pretty well in November. PS2 version was Activisions second best title behind COD 2 360.

But, the DS version sold poorly.

Post the numbers or shut up.

Make me. Nyah, nyah.

Seriously, I'd post numbers if I could. I'll stop with the teasing, but I do like to talk about NPD numbers, so it's a bit tortuous waiting for numbers to come out.

Does that mean you know we're going to actually GET the numbers from someone (or yourself)? Teasing is one thing, but if we're never going to get numbers, that's kinda fucked up :lol .

Could you do rough numbers?

IE: lets say THAS for the DS did 23,421. You post 20,000.

Of course, most of us expect Bunkum to appear with other username and post the numbers right???

That would be nice Bunkum and no one would tell the cops!!!

WHy do you have to wait for someone else to do the "dirty work"? That is really crappy that you would come and post about your observations of the numbers when you know you have no intention of posting them.

Also, how the hell would anyone know that you posted them? Does your NPD subscription have "sonycowboy" on the application form?

Get over it. If my tiny little tidbits annoy you, I don't know what to say. The numbers will be out soon and lynching me because you can't get them won't get them out any sooner. Maybe your word means nothing to you, but mine does. :) I'd love to tell you all you'd like to know and I'll be happy to talk about the sales when the numbers are out.

Actually, you're right, my word means nothing to me. The way I see it, the numbers will get out anyway, whether or not you post them is going to change that.

Geez some of you guys need to cool down. The cowboy definitevely telling us the numbers will make it to GAF oughta be more then enough so why pester him? ~_~

God damn guys, stop being assholes.

It's just numbers. We'll get them. Who cares who it comes from. Let's not attack whoever has knowledge and decides not to post them.

When you say that, I hope you're talking to Sonycowboy and Rhindle who are playing the "nyah, nyah, nyah...we have numbers and you don't and we know you'd love to know them so we'll sit here and gloat about having them"

IMO all this NPD numbers teasing has to end because it's getting really boring.
Let's make a thread only when we get the numbers otherwise there are a lot of other things to talk about.

Dude, it's NUMBERS. Who cares that Rhindle and sonycowboy knows them? Let them gloat. If I had them I'd gloat too. They're just fooling around.

They know we're gonna get the numbers soon and are just teasing people, and not even severely I might add.

No offense, but people need to stop being such pussies.

Teasings in the eye of the beholder I guess. What I see them doing is letting us know what little bits of stuff they can say. Would ya rather know nothing at all up until the big reveal?

Meh, fine by me. Reminds me of people hanging around speculating on what's going to happen in an upcoming episode of a show they watch, and some dude who already saw it keeps coming up to smugly announce, "Nah, doesn't happen like that at all." So someone in the group finally asks, "All right, my curiousity's getting the best of me, just tell me what happens to so-and-so." "Nope, seeya."

I'm not meaning for that to come out harshly toward Sonycowboy, not looking to slam the guy and I'm not sensing a lynch mob or anything, 'cause it's not some terrible crime in the grand scheme of things. But yeah, it is a little annoying. Anyway...how 'bout them Cubs? :)
