Revolution: $99.99 ?!

is TVG really that desperate? by TVG logic and like Wario said handhelds will cost more than the Revolution.

$199 is what they'll come in at. Hardware will be a clear step up from PS2/XB but a clear drop from 360/PS3 (overall). Controllers + accessories + downloads will make them plenty of profits.

I wouldn't count on it. They've already said Revolution would launch at a higher price than their previous consoles have, and that the pricing would be comparable to that of the competition(assuming a $299 price tag for both).

EDIT: Also bear in mind that size costs money too.

I've never heard that either.

Yeah, I remember them talking about it a long time ago, IGNcube might have a link. Now I'm thinking that they have probably changed their stance on it.

the only thing i've heard about the revolution is that it'll be "affordable."

making the revolution the most expensive nintendo console sure doesn't sound like one, so that doesn't really make sense

"Also bear in mind that size costs money too."

yet gamecube costs less than the ps2 and xbox

this was a theoritical posting , made by a blogger who works for german tv. he attended x05 and spoke to some developers and one developer did reaffirm itwata's statment that rev was less powerful. so he sugggested the $99 price

nintendo-revolution.blogspot.com.

then every other site in the word took it as news. reporting nowadays suck.

Im probably going to buy a revolution one way or another, but if this is true, it would certainly rock... Im sure its not, but I dont think Nintendo needs to budget price this thing, the power of Nintendos back catelog will bring in a TON of old fans.

I think it could be $249.99 at most, simply because Nintendo knows the early adopters/hardcore N-Fans will buy the first 2-3 million systems no matter what, so they might as well charge a little extra.

Then they'll drop to the more standard $199.99 if they don't launch at that price to begin with.

The N64 was initially supposed to cost $249.99 as well.

Yeah, i'm guessing $199-$249 myself. There's a danger in pricing a console ridiculously lower than your competitors as it creates the impression that the cheaper console isn't worth buying, because it's so cheap.

Let’s get real.

Next-gen hardware -- $199 аnd not a penny less. Remember, it’s gotta look at least similar to the competition on most (480i) TVs.

No way the Revolution will go for that cheap initially. Xbox 360 sure isn't... and the tech is similar.

Do you know something we dont, because I dont have a clue what the tech is. Im assuming it will be powerfull, but given the success the DS is having with inovative gameplay and lower dev costs, they could go the same route here.

Has that ever been proven? I hear it all the time but I've never seen any proof that that is the case.

Bah! I just spent the last 30 minutes looking through the IGNcube archives for that information, but I couldn't find it. Although I swear I remember reading it too.

From what I remember, it was an interview with someone at Nintendo (quite possibly NOA) and they were discussing how the Cube matched up with the Xbox and PS2 (not favorably). They said that the Rev would fix the problems by looking cool (no purple toys), launching at the same time as the other guys, and being very similar in tech and price.

Obviously they've already changed their mind on the launch time and in recent interviews they've talked about it being affordable to everyone. So somewhere along the line they decided that they didn't have to be equeal to the other guys in price and tech.

Now I assume they'll launch at the traditional $199.

The Revolution would be good as bought at $199 launch. Mario 128 playing with that funky controller is going to be sraight up cool.

It would be a smart move for sure. I'd pay $99 for 2x the GameCube power and that remote. In fact, I won't even consider buying a Revolution console if it ends being more expensive than that.

i cant really imagine a nintendo handheld being more expensive than a console

Fantastic point and that is why this $99 price point for the Revolution will never happen. Nintendo would have to lower the prices on all their older handhelds to below $99.

$99 would be far too low. That's just going to harm the system completely, IMO. When I buy a console I want to feel like I've bought something worth a lot of money...something that only cost £80 or so would feel like a toy to me.

I'd buy it for 100 bucks if they included a game. :lol

I hope they at least bundle-in some free game downloads as a means to attract players to that service.

I don't know in terms of proof--especially if we're talking "at launch"--but price drops will probably send this sort of message if not consistent with your competitors...

$10,000. You heard it here first.

I'm predicting $149.99 - $199.99 myself. I'm sure, while Nintendo isn't in direct competition with MS or Sony, they'd like to try and outsell them, too. With the prices of consoles going up this gen, price will probably be more important than last gen.

Also, consider that 360 and PS3 will have additional functionality. 360 will act as a media centre as will PS3 which will also play Blu-Ray discs. The pricing of the Revolution will have to take this into account.

Today forums and fanboys sparked into action however with the allegation that the Revolution would be hitting the market for $99.99 yet at the cost of being the least powerful of the three next-gen platforms.

In otherwords, Totalgames pulled the price out of the sewers.

This just in: Sony PS3 to be $1000, Sony does not see Microsoft and Nintendo as competition. Kutaragi tells fans to work harder for a PS3.

I can make crap up too! And the funny thing is my BS is probably more accurate.

Well now I just feel cyclical. I remember a simple comment from Nintendo about Dolphin being affordable lead to a small bit of $99 speculation, too.
