Revolution controller = eyetoy?

Do you think it could be possible?

I mean, with the announcment of the split SKUs from MS, everyone is in an uproar, exclaiming that the HD is now useless...

It still has the damn thing, but because you can't bank on it been there, you can't exploit it to its maximum potential.

In reality, for something like a HD, it's not that important, because the limit of the things you can do with it isn't that great.

But for something as radical as an eyetoy type device, to have it included from the start, as a dependable unit, could really change the way developers develop for the system and the way the system is percieved.

The console can still include a standard controller; nothing too outlandish, which will more than satisfy the need for backwards compatibility on the controller... but the use of an eyetoy like device not only revolutionizes input, but is also 'simple to use', something indicated by Miyamoto as important when considering the new controller.

Even if its not something that would be used by every game for the console, because developers can count on it been there, they can much more readily and much more confidently exploit its features; imagine golfing games coming out where you can use golf clubs wrapped in an appropriately detectable material, or a bunch of other tools, akin to the dual cup demonstration shown by Sony for their PS3 unveiling.

Maybe it's just because we have hyped it up so much, but it seems like one of only a few concievable ideas that could satisfy the need to be 'revolutionary', while not necessarily been too outlandish... or been a touchscreen LCD on the gamepad (which they've already said no to).

I personally don't think it would be too likely... the cost of the camera would be too high in all likelihood, even for a simple one... but at the same time I think it's a pretty good idea :P.. what about you guys?

Whew, I thought things were outta control, thankfully with this post things are getting back to normal :lol

I hope not. I like the eyetoy, but the last thing I want to do after a hard day at work is come home and have to flap my arms and legs about just to play a game.

hahaha exactly. I flap my arms around enough at work trying to get the fucking Artists to figure out what I'm talking about.

Haha. Then stick with your PS3 or X360.

Seriously though... I think I'd be swayed into getting a revolution if they do something like this... just because the games will be significantly different to anything else available.

It also seems to gel with Miyamoto's design philosophy... it's healthy gaming.

I still hope it comes with a visor. No more using analog stick to look up and down while in first-person. You just use your own head if you want to look over your shoulder!

With the Revolution, you control your characters via your bowel movements. Innovation thy name is Nintendo.

that would get old quick. ever have your hands get sore from extended play? now imagine thats your neck.

considering sony allready did the Eyetoy (duh) then there would be no reason for nintendo to hide it as sony couldnt copy them cause they were allready copying sony

so it's obviously not an eyetoy like thing (thank fucking god)

since the eyetoy and it's concept is fucking lame

The Revolution controller will most likely end up being a standard looking controller with OLED buttons. If you're playing an SNES game, it will illuminate the buttons from the SNES controller. If you're playing an N64 game, it'll illuminate the buttons from the N64 controller and etc.

DID YOU SEE THE OPTIMUS KEYBOARD?

As others have mentioned, copying the eyetoy wouldn't even be arguably "revolutionary"... unless.

"...you will say, 'wow'."

The revolution is that its included from the start, been such a radically different and versatile input method, there's huge oppurtunities.

On the otherhand, having it as a perephial means that the focus has to be like a laser... either you use it or you don't; and there's isn't that huge a market for it, so ultimately games that focus on its use are gimmicky variety/party game types.

Yes, which is what makes me say this. There are (some really good) artist renderings of this idea circulating around the net. I had the idea in my head way before I saw them, though.
