Revolution controller video (fan made)

Nunchuck FTW!

Nice video but he doesn't have it completely right. Creating an invisible analog plain in the air would be a more efficient way of controlling some of those games rather than a pointing device.

Not bad, but I can't imagine playing Soul Calibur with this.

ROFL LIKE I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT

Is there more of the FZero part? That looks great.

The Fzero part is exactly how I imagined it. Hopefully the controller also has 3 areas of rumble to "pull" you to the left or right when you get hit by someone else :D

Yeah, that's not bad. Nintendo needs to put that sort of thing into their marketing; I think it would go a long way towards helping people "get" the controller.

I know. I'm about to flip out at the prospect of an F-Zero game for the Rev.

And for the record, attacking would be ridiculously cool if you could jerk the revmote to the left and right to attack (as opposed to turning/tilting it). I'm not sure how you could spin around though, maybe up or down motions?

Circular motion with both hands parallel to the floor, sort of like the 'handcuffs' dance move.

the fact that srategic games could for the fitst time on a stationary console be as acurate as the pc is wery cool. (pardon my spelling im swedish)

I thought that was crap. It made existing games appear more difficult to play.

Seriously. I'm not worried so much about the processing power of the Revolution but I AM worried that the games are going to be harder than fuck to control.

I seriously doubt that Nintendo would stake their entire future on a controller that makes games more difficult to play.

Indeed and agreed i just hope f-zero rev is more like f-zero x than the one on the gamecube.
my guess: neither, nor

The vid is okay. Not quite thought to the end sometimes.
Im' gonna make my own one for a perfect egoshooter control.

Except for the shooting game, every other example looks difficult. I cant imagine playing Fzero GX on a NES pad. I guess the second Revolution secret Miyamoto was talking about will be the one they use for games like Mario. Before the unveiling Miyamoto said the controller would work wel with a Zelda game. This doesn't seem to be fitting a game like Zelda at all.

AV Warriors at arms!

Have at thee Hydro!

The only thing it was missing was the track randomizer and Death Race.

Yeah, the rest of the stuff looked cool as hell, but with Mario, i'll take the shell. Or may the nunchucku with the ocasional flick action action, but no point and click plz thx?

You're not using the NES pad to steer, only for the sideswipe attacks.
You steer by tilting the controller.

Bah, I saw this video yesterday and I instantly developed a feverish hatred for it.

It's because I had the same exact idea, but with me lacking a video camera, this guy beat me to the punch.

Secondly, I don't like his ideas.

F-Zero with a steering wheel-type control? Humbug. There's a reason real life fighter pilots don't use wheels -- it doesn't give them the sensitive and tight control of a "control stick." The GC control stick works Xteen times better for F-Zero than a wheel, and a single-handed, 3D controller like the Rev's would be even more amazing. There's no need to turn it into a wheel.

Also, controlling Mario like that is retarded. You wouldn't even be controlling Mario -- you would just be telling him where to go, as if he was a RTS character. But wait, you also get to make him jump in an arduous and freakishly burdenous manner!

And don't even get me started on Soulcalibur...

Good thing people with imagination work for Nintendo.

Are you implying that he is ridiculously wrong?
About Mario and fighting games, yes. F-Zero might have the suggested control method as an option, but it won't be the primary one. I will try to borrow a video camera from a friend to show what I imagine some control schemes will be like.

How about:
The R+L button technique from Fzero GX
The bashing with X
Boosting?
Braking?

lets see:
Accelerate : A
Boosting : Trigger
Braking : B
R+L button technique : Dpad
Steering : Move controller

Nintendo should make the Dpad pressure sensitive.

no one cares

When applied to existing games like Mario Sunshine and F-Zero, the controller just came off as more complicated. Why the hell would I want to point and click Mario when I can just run him around with the joystick? The RevMote doesn't improve anything.

^^^

Thats a better video for shooters imo

Most gamers looked at Nintendo's Revolution controller announcement with a bewildered look and a hint of suspicion, especially when its use in FPS games was mentioned.
Arena51.be, a website that comes in French and Dutch flavors, has posted a video on the video.google site of how Nintendo's controller will work with a game such as Half-Life 2.

The demonstration is rather impressive and by a quick look at it you can see how using the controller may have a steep learning curve while it looks as if it will give you more freedom of movement. It is, of course, too early to speculate on the comfort levels for long gaming sessions or how reliable this demonstration is but the answers to all those questions will have to wait until E3, 2006 when we will get to try one of those things.

Yep, that's what I was trying to say in my post.

Why play Mario 64 with a stylus when you can play it MUCH BETTER with an N64 controller? I think Nintendo's screwing themselves.

Playing any racing game like that with would absolutely suck. Because there's no resistance, you'd get little 'feel' for the car. Even your analog stick returns to center position - now imagine if it didn't.

I can't wait to see what Nintendo does with the Revolution, but I think it's uses will be more subtle than most people's (thoughtless) ideas, but so well done that games will be effortless to control.

I agree with the Mario sentiments. It really made it seem not only un-fun, but difficult as well.

As for the Fzero thing, why turn it into a steering wheel at all? Can't you just point it and move the controller along to steer? Seems simpler that way.

That's exactly what i'm thinking.
