Revolution Menu Mocks

I'm not sure if these are old or not but I saw these over at IGN and did a search here and nothing popped up.

So these obviously aren't real but even though they're just some mock ups, the design looks pretty damn good imo. Nintendo would be wise to go with something like this.

Looks good - but for NTSC TV purpose, the font has to be larger for description part (or so as my creative directors would say.. ;))

You're right. It does look a lot like the PSP menu.

That said, I likes it too. Obviously fake, but they can do loads worse than a PSP-looking interface. More streamlined, I'd hope, but Sony did design a clean looking errr, look.

There are some serious usability issues in these mockups (such as having multiple things highlited at once), but they are certainly pretty.

I think there was a whole thread of mockups on the revolution forum

For exampe, take this one:

If I hit down, what is it going to do? Change the game? The system? the Sort? etc

If I can get SMK with online play and original SNES controllers the revolution becomes a must buy for me. Me and my cousin in UK love playing this game, but it doesn't feel right over the pc for whatever reason.

If we get Secret of Mana multiplayer too its game over for the other consoles!*

It will probably never happen though. :(

You'd have to move left or right between menus.

Because there is no March 19th in America?

I know, but my point is all 3 are highlited. There is no way of knowing which action will occur just by looking at it.
Unless the lighting pulsates, but why is this even an argument again? :)

Seriously. One of the three would just pulse, and that's where the "cursor" would be. Not a big deal.

Miyamoto logs onto GA.

Check's "mock-up" thread.

Laughs histerically at date on browser.

Calls office colleagues to come see his monitor.

They all laugh histerically.

Calls office janitor over.

He pauses.

looks around awkwardly.

Then commences laughing histerically.

Anyone else notice the date on the bottom? 03/19/2006?

This was not made by an american.
?

Um, the date format in america is MM/DD/YYYY. :lol

I think that it indicates it WAS made by an American. Americans list month first... other countries don't. Other countries follow day/month/year.

I wasn't aware it was an argument. Its my opinion on the usability of a non-existent user interface. I have other complaints as well, such as the scrolling game box list being a poor choice for a large list of games.

Actually, you could probably twist that recent comment by Sega about their franchises being very suitable for Revolution, and them working with Nintendo, into Sega climbing onboard the retro-download bandwagon ;)

Very nice menus. The final ones won't look half as good as those though - Nintendo wouldn't know how to make sophisticated menus like those if their future depended on it

The dots, people, the dots. Sorry I added slashes. Anyway, I believe in Japan they use (Month.Day.Year) but instead of slahses, they use dots.

I could be wrong though.

Edit - nevermind, in Japan they use YY/MM/DD

A valid point.

Something I'd be more concerned about is the lack of instruction on how to Select/Go Back/etc. You know...mapping possible actions to buttons on the controller on-screen.

My fault for the poor usage of words. We all hopefully see your point, but since it is a mockup then eh.. not really a bit deal.

Dots are not uncommon. Not exactly common, but certainly not uncommon. It's a tweener format. Or something.
