that just looks like someone printed the info on the back of a regular recordable disc. the black type that is on the spine of the disc gives it away.

and what the hell would the R stand for anyway? assuming the S stands for screen, that is.

Nintendo Really Swank.

I posted this a while ago in that thread titled "Revolution SPEC".

Fake as fuck.

...but interesting to look at. That's a funny looking dude holding that disc. :lol

OK....I was just wondering if you guys knew anything about it...

OT: Hey Dune Buggy....are you an SA-CD fan....what model player do you have??

I have a Sony SCD-XA9000ES player and I luv it to death :D

it's a cheapy Pioneer universal player, the 563a. I love it to death, expecially on those rare occasions I'm able to actually enjoy my music in 5.1!

edit I had toshiba on the brain, I have a pioneer player, not Toshiba.

I was thinking about buying an SA-CD player but its not supported enough in the music that I tend to like.
Why can't they just do CD/DVD hybrids or something for DD/DTS?

Judging by the size of the disc, it looks like the Revolution is gonna be bigger than the Gamecube. What the fuck?

*cancels Revolution preorder

Of course without decent reason to believe otherwise, I'd immediately place everything in the fake category. A name like that wouldn't shock me too much, though. GameCube and Game Boy Advance shared part of their name and used the same font, and it has been said that the DS can be seen as the sort of direction they'd go with future hardware.

But the O at the end of Nintendo which basically uses part of the DS-name logo but joins the two screens... doesn't seem to make much sense. Unless it's really the Nintendo oRS.

Revolution, Reality, Rolling, Response, Round, Rhombus, Rectangle.

Now if I wanted to fake something and I looked as ugly as him I would not put my face near it for the net to see

we may not even see a Nintendo New Sexy disc at E3 this year

Most company discs that are to burn look like that. Black text on a basic looking disc. They don't pimp them out with crazy graphics.

That said it probably is a fake. I doubt someone would be dumb enough to post a pic of their face while holding a disc like that as they could get their asses sued off.

not to stray too far OT here but DD isn't very good for high-res music, and DTS has their own line of surround music (http://www.dtsonline.com/entertainment/) on which they release some decent stuff. Sting, Porcupine Tree, Megadeth, Queen, Eagles, Crystal Method, and some more obscure stuff as well such as The Polyphonic Spree.

:lol Yes, that last picture actually made me laugh out loud.

It also debunked all the previous images; why would a pimply teenager in his parents' basement have media from Nintendo's top secret next generation console?

not to mention this choad having a HD DVD drive lol

when i got to the pic of the guy's face i had an overwhelming urge to PUNCH..

mostly because i think of all the effort he put in to create this (obviously fake) disc

make label, print onto disc, take photos, TAKE PHOTO OF FACE, shrink photos, upload
ugh.

*urge to punch rising*

I want to believe it's fake, but I've never seen a printable CD/DVD/optical disc with a glossy finish. It's a matter finish usually, or how else will the ink stick? It could be a label, but do they make transparent labels? Look at that refraction (the rainbow like light passing through a prism). That's off the data layer, not the top layer. You only get a refraction like that from light reflecting passing through the top layer of the disc and reflection/refracting off the mirrored surface beneath. Besides, do they make transparent CD labels that don't interfere with the regular refractive properties of optical media? If you know about the science behind it, the CD label would have a different indec of refraction than the CD material beneath it. It should alter the refraction. Again, I'd like to believe it's fake, but can't say until it's confirmed to be fake. Look at the fingerprints too. You can see the spectrum behind them too. Hmmm... :? PEACE.

EDIT: And if it ends up being real, it's possible this guy got a disc from a dev friend or some other insider. It's not like they'd only have one disc lying around, right? Who says this kid has anything to read/write it with?

when are people going to learn? nintendo are better than the mafia at keeping stuff quiet. If this were real, the guy wouldn't take a picture of his bigass face along with the disc, cause he'd be dead by now.

I've run one of the images through PS and it would seem as though this is a fake due to the compression artifacts. But i'm really not sure as it could equally be (or even more likely) just artifacts due to the hign contrast in that area caused by normal jpg compression.

:lol If you look at the monitor behind him, you can see he's got Paint Shop Pro open. At least cover up your tracks, dude! Also, the disc with the finger through it in the second batch is different to the disc on its own in the first shots - look at the black text in the centre.

"Heres this thing I made"

"Also on show, my herpes and bad haircut, thanks for looking!"

They weren't good at hiding the GCN name at ALL.

They hired a holding company on the East Coast to register the trademarks for all of the RuSa US Pokemon names and the GameCube names before Spaceworld. They weren't listed as Nintendo, but it was easy enough to figure out.

It's funny because a lot of times, the original intent of the faked whatever was just meant as a joke, but shit spreads like wildfire on the net, and with it, the meaning changes.

IMO this guy is trying to fool people though :P

you just reminded me of what the gamecube was going to be called. I'm glad they changed it, as Starcube is horrible.

I don't think it was ever Starcube. I think that, and Star Road, was just something Daily Radar pulled out of their ass.

After IGN posted the name would be GameCube, Daily Radar went on the record stating the console WOULD be named Starcube. I bet they felt stupid a week later at Spaceworld.

You know...um...sometimes people like to resize and recompress the images they take off their digicams.... Sorry for being a stick in the mud, but it would seem there's a legit reason for having PSP open when you're using a digicam to take pics of your booty (like pirate booty...not his ass).

Can someone confirm that they make CD labels that are transparent? I know you can photocopy to transparencies, but I didn't know if they made transparent, printable CD labels. And the other thing is, will that transparent CD label's material interfere with the refractions coming off the optical media.

If I can try a better explanation. You've got the optical media which is made of a few layers. The bottom layer is clear so the laser can read the data layer, which is that thin, shiny layer that reflects light and stuff. Then, the top layer is usually clear as well. The plastic used has something called a "index of refraction". Light passing through it "bends" and bounces off the mirrored layer, and splits to a certain amount, which is what causes that rainbow effect. Like light passing through a prism, or like light refracting off a thin layer of oil in a puddle. If you were to place a label over this plastic, that label's gonna usually be made of a different material than the disc itself. That means that when the light passes through that label, it's index of refraction will differ from that of the disc beneath it. Light will bend a certain way passing through the label, and then a different way when passing through the disc beneath it. It then reflects off the mirrored surface (data layer) and then back through the disc before being refracted again by the label one last time on its way to your eyes.

I'm ignoring the effects of the adhesive layer, which might completely nullify the effects for all I know. What I'm trying to find out is if this is a fake, then how'd he do it? It's more than a photoshop, I've yet to see someone photoshop a label at multiple angles and lighting sources like that, and make it look 100% accurate like that. So photoshop is out of the question IMO. I mean, just look at the fingerprints. Playboy's PS experts couldn't even pull this off, and they hid Chyna's penis for crying out loud. So if it's done, it's gotta be some physical hoax he pulled off. But again, are there transparent labels? And if there aren, do they fuck up the natural refractive nature of optical discs? Hold any labelless optical disc under a light at angles and you're gonna see those rainbows. I'm not convinced you're gonna see the same thing if there's a label, b/c depending on the index of refraction, it might reflect most of the light away from the camera, or might mute the "prism effect" altogether. If it's a fake, IMO, it's a damn good one. PEACE.
