Revolution will not support HD?

Matt C. over at IGN already confirmed that the Revolution only has one digital out port on the back of the system when he was allowed to interact with the system behind closed doors at E3. This will be the same port for both analog and digital signals. If you were the lucky few to experience HD on the GameCube, you already have the cable that can output a digital signal on the Revolution. However, that cable only covers video, so the Revolution cable will have to contain the audio jacks as well on that same cable. The only way the Revolution will not accept HD is if Nintendo intentionally does not supply the code to developers who would like their games to be in HD.

OK so let's recap. We're not going to give you more power than our competitiors. You don't need that. We're not going to give you HD-gaming. You don't need that either. We're not going to give you a hard drive. It's just a waste of space and it will cost us money. You'll understand that. We're probably not even going to give you DVD. You don't need to watch movies. Go to the theaters for that.

The 360 comes w/a free HD? Blimey! There's also nothing to stop Nintendo fom doing this later, but it's obvious they have a vested interest in 1st party provided SD cards.

Q: Will Revolution be able to play DVD movies?

A: Yes. However, DVD-movie playback will not be available out of the box. Revolution owners must buy an additional dongle that inserts in front of the machine in order to watch Hollywood DVD movies on the platform.

Offsetting consortium costs no doubt, ala XBX.

Seriously, as long as their own games look good, who cares? No one is going to buy their 3rd party games unless their exclusive. That ship sailed on Nintendo consoles a while ago.

I'm sure ATI will cook up something good for Nintendo. It just depends on what specificiations Nintendo has ATI working with.

That's been my own feeling on the matter. I'm not expecting a monster CPU at all, but I think their GPU will definately be up to the challenge. It makes based on what we do what we know and some of the vague comments out of NCL and NOA.

If so, why hold out on releasing specs? And to release them a few months before the launch of the XBox 360. If I have a underpowered console, its hard to justify holding on to this info. Releasing it close to the launch of a more technically powerful console, or better yet name the market leader your main competitor.

I just find it fishy, we know some developers are gonna leak the specs anyway.

I'm tired of people saying this and that about the power of Revolution. Either wait until specs are known or shutup.

hi.

why are people taking a post from a fanboy on IGN who supposedly got this detailed response... seriously?

I doubted the e-mail from moment I started reading it, it was first thing that came to mind. I have e-mailed Nintendo before and they have never responded with so much detail.
