Rfactor - a sim racers dream !

Ryudo

My opinion? USED.
Man o man this game is cool. I can finally say goodbye to F1 Challenge and GTR, this is the shit.

It feels like a sim racer should and it has a massive amount of customization, modding ability and of course online play. Of course every online game i have played i have been beaten by over 20 seconds lol.

Its one of the first PC games i have played that has got the FF and rumble effects spot on. simply awesome stuff. It looks pretty good, not excellent but good. It sounds awesome, the engine sounds are top stuff, even better than forza imo.

It doesnt have a massive amount of cars and tracks, but it will have many, many mods. Most of which will be converted from the F1 challenge ones.

The game was built for modders and enthusiasts so its an online distribution system. I paid $50 australian for it and once you download it its yours, like steam and HL2. You can buy it from : http://rfactor.net/

Here are some quick screen grabs i took (havent unlocked the best cars yet);

I thoroughly recomend this to anyone who lovges car sims on the PC, it doesnt take a beast to run it either.

I actually prefer rFactor physics over GTR, but sadly rFactor is faulted at one cruical game aspect: track design. Apart from the one circuit that came with the demo, they're all bland, have no flow and are no fun.

So, it's back to GTR/GPL for me until the first few mods come out

GTR is let down by it's net code, a deal-breaker for me unfortunately, I fear GT-Legends will suffer the same fate :(

rFactors netcode was nice in the demo I tried a few months ago.

My pedals are knackered so it's academic for me at the moment anyway, but I'm more interested in what David Kaemmer is doing with FIRST-Racing than anything currently announced.

A new engine from DK, with the netcode legacy of GPL/Nascar would even be enough for me to splashout on a pair of Speed 7 pedals.

But as it's going to take a significant investment to get back into sim-racing rFactor/GTR/GT-Legends just isn't enough :(

Isn't that one going to pay-to-play? -1 for me.

Yes, and to be honest it's one of the reasons I am really interested in it.

I hate to be elitist (And I am :lol), but If you saw the calibré of the current beta-testers, and the kind of people that will be paying-to-play the standard of driving/racing online should be unmatched by any title online ever.

Rfactor is made of the guys who did the F1-sims on the PC (F1 99-02)

they are gods!.

I have loved them since i played one of their first games, (Sports car gt)

i wish true sims, like these, will make it to next-gen consoles. i'm really tired of the sim-lite, car collectathon console racers

rFactor plays great but what is the point of creating real car mods when we dont have the individual physics characteristics of these real cars?
