beatmania IIDX 10th Style makes it to the PS2 on November 17th.

Remy said:
- Game comes out November 17th
- 88 total songs
- All 54 songs from 10th Style
- 7 CS exclusives
- Dan courses and Beginner's Mode are in
- First batch include a special Happy Sky e-amuse card
- There's some text about a special edition but I can't at all make out what it says.

These games have gotten pretty much consistently better with every home release. I'd still suggest waiting until Beatmania US is released to test the waters, but if you have money to burn, import one of the later IIDX games and a controller.

Hey, I had a beatmania post on deck - you just beat me to it. :P

Anyway, here's some more info on Guitar Hero (for the PS2, this November)

Current unconfirmed, partial song list:

Boston - "More Than a Feeling"
David Bowie - "Ziggy Stardust"
White Zombie - "Thunderkiss '65"
Megadeth - "Symphony of Destruction"
Franz Ferdinand - "Take Me Out"
Jimi Hendrix - "Spanish Castle Magic"
ZZTop - "Sharp Dressed Man"
Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Higher Ground"
The Donnas - "Take It Off"
Helmet - "Unsung"
Sum41 - "Fat Lip"
The Ramones - "I Wanna Be Sedated"
Deep Purple - "Smoke on the Water"
Cream - "Crossroads"
Black Sabbath - "Iron Man"
Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon"

A good thread on Guitar Hero is here.

Looking forward to DDR Extreme 2. It will be nice to be able to play Captain Jack (Grandale Remix) and Speed Over Beethoven. :)

In other news, Konami sued Roxor back in May because of In The Groove, Roxor's DDR clone for the PS2 and arcade. Mostly the lawsuit is because of patent rights, and for making an arcade kit that modifies DDR arcade hardware. I guess this didn't sit well with Konami.

In July Konami brought Red Octane and Mad Catz into the fray with litigation having to do with dance pads.Roxor then filed a counterclaim denying the claims made by Konami. Nothing has been resolved to this date.

As for In The Groove itself, I gave it a try and they really went to town with the difficulty scale. Level 8 songs in ITG are noticably harder than 8-foot songs in DDR, in my opinion.

Still, the songs are longer and the added complexity is a nice change... but it's not really DDR.

Time do dust off the old guitar and drumset!

Guitar Freaks V & Drummania V:
Guitar Freaks V features more than 270 songs, including 50 brand new and 30 reproduction. Players have the option of linking together with Drum Mania V for a mega jam session.

The player can play the songs in either Guitar, Bass or Open Pick mode. The different modes increase the level of difficulty for the player.

The replica guitar has 3 colour keys on it Red, Blue and Green. The player is instructed which key to press and when. The player may also be istructed to perform moves with the guitar. Depending on the song and difficulty, players are required to perform fast and complicated patterns.

This version still allows, players of all skill levels to have a go. With songs specifically designed to be played by beginner with low BPM and easier patterns.

This version is the first version none numbered version e.g. 10th mix, 11th mix, etc. This is a push by konami throughout their music simulation line.

The local arcade just got both machines in too :)

Fuck these console releases of DDR, they need to announce a new arcade version. Extreme is starting to get mighty old...

What? Its like DDR 9 or something. Its EXTREME 2

Im talking about the song list. Some of those are just... :|

As for In The Groove, I have it and enjoy it. The steps just feel better than DDR (more natural).

I'd like to know when and if Donkey Konga 3 will make it stateside. Hopefully with a better and more rounded out song list.

Any insiders know if Nintendo just decided to cancel it at the drop of the hat?

Right on, as an owner of 2 GF controllers and a DM controller, I've been waiting years for this. I found out about on the same day as the Revolution controller and MGS4, and it excites me the most!

Hmm. When does DDR w/ Mario come out? Is someone trying to capitalize on the expected sales of it?

By the way: you may have noticed that ITG2 is now "Pump It Up: In The Groove 2" because Andamiro is producing the new dedi-cabs. Might lead the way to more drastic changes as well...

Also, word on the street is that there's survey's going around testing the demand for a GF ASC as well! I for one can't wait. My DM set up has sat too long without some lovin!

edit> JPN DDR with Mario came out awhile back... was there a domestic release planned as well?

It's too bad my family already found out about the new Karaoke Revolution. :( I was trying to keep it from them. Now they're gonna make me get it and want to play it all the time.

Yep. It's currently slated to come out October 24th.

Well, between that, the microphone already out for MP6 and 7 and the Donkey Konga games selling decently, perhaps it looks like there is a market for Karaoke Revolution Party?

Anyone else pick up DDR Extreme 2?

I'm loving it, particularly Wonderful Night. Just wish you could set the difficulty of the Dance Master mode rather than have to slog through a bunch of beginner missions.

The game comes with a demo of Karaoke Party... which I sucked at completely, both the singing *and* the dancing. The stock-ticker step-display is gonna take some getting used to, and the step detection will fault you if you step too early rather than just grade on whether you hit it.
