Ridge Racer 6 new info

eh, I prefer Halo's model of paying for early release and an eventual free release but overall I don't care as long as real content is being added. I'm not going to pay for shit like skins, but a track pack or a map pack or whatever sounds good.

NEW INFO WOO HOO.

How about some god damn fucking screen shots of a game that's supposed to help launch a system in FOUR MONTHS.

Shit in a handbasket, the marketplace is going to be the downfall of games as we know it.
It might be the saviour of the industry. Something has to be done to offset the huge increase in development costs. I would have paid $10 for a kickass single player Halo level like Assault on the Control Room in a second if they released if after the original game was out.

I'm really not sure about RR6.

Yes, I love Ridge Racer generally, but on the PS1/2 there wasn't really anything to compare it to. But on Xbox, PGR2 and to a lesser extent outrun 2, have the arcade slant handling pretty bloody sorted IMO. Yes, PGR is slightly more serious, but sliding around the streets of Edinburgh is almost perfection for me.

Doesn't really leave much room for maneouvre for Namco - I don't know if a simple drift mechanic will still work - it only just works on PSP

there's a next-gen ridge racer coming out in a matter of months, and you people are hung up on microtransactions and a phantom ps3 version? perspective, please! awesome news, anyway.

I've been happy as hell paying $5-$6 for new Tom Clancy maps and Links golf courses. I wouldn't mind paying a buck or less for a cool car or a few bucks for a new racetrack.

I remember when Ridge Racer Revolution came out. I essentially paid full price for one new track (with variations) and a couple of cars. Definitely a worse deal than some of the stuff I've bought via micropayments!

We need less talk about payments and more talk about how 360 needs this:

Great, the first hybrid controller/vagina. What's next for the "mature" phase of our industry?

as much as I don't like the idea of Microtransactions, I will go along with them for games that I really care about, such as Ridge Racer 6.

Yeah WTF? This is a launch title and they can't get us any screenies?

Is there any launch title at this point where we have not seen at least a couple ingame screens, or at least ingame cutscenes or concepts?

Ridge Racer Heads Online
It's not only a launch game, but it's decked out over Xbox Live.

by Patrick Klepek, 08/05/2005

Earlier this week Namco hinted Ridge Racer wouldn't only be swerving away from PlayStation, but they'd join Microsoft when the hardware launches later this year, too. Turns out it's all true; Namco confirmed today Ridge Racer 6 will be available at launch, and we have fresh new details on the game's online modes.

Unfortunately, the online specifics appear purposely vague; we expect that Namco will nail down specifics when the game's formally announced at Tokyo Game Show next month. Right now, though, Namco's touting "Worldwide Online Multiplayer Battles" for Ridge Racer 6 through the game's "Worldwide Player Matching System," emphasizing players from all over the world will go head-to-head.

As a nice touch, Ridge Racer 6 also allows players to upload personal records from Time Attack Mode onto Xbox Live's persistent Leader Board and make ghost data available for others to download and race against. In line with Microsoft's statements so far, the online component won't be limited to just racing; Ridge Racer 6 will also allow for microtransactions through the Xbox Live marketplace. Dollar menu cars? Mmm.

We still don't know how many players can race online simultaneously, but we'll keep bugging Namco and report back soon.

Sounds awesome, but I hope there is a tourny mode just like PGR3!

TOURNY MODE, NAMCO! DO IT!!

What's wrong with microtransactions?

The developer puts some hard work and effort into updating a game, and you don't expect to pay for it?

*shakes head in disbelief*

Say you bought LOTR on DVD. And then the special edition came out. If someone gave you the option of just buying the extra features, rather than a whole new DVD, wouldn't you go for it?

Well there are games that have shown barely anything like Madden 06. I can't think of any launch game other than RR6 that has yet to show anything other than a concept render though. It is hard to say though since we still don't know what games are really launch [window] titles, especially on the Japanese side.

Did Namco actually say that? All DLC is part of the marketplace whether it is free or premium.

Thank you for helping get the confusion out of the air.

All downloadable content happens from the marketplace. But not all downloadable content will have a charge.

Sweet to here this is a launch game. Can't wait to own you mofos online! :D

Namco is probably saving screenshots and videos until TGS next month. that'll give magazines just barely enough lead time to have pictures in their Nov and Dec issues which will hit newstands and mail boxes just before launch Xbox 360 launch

The timeframe just screams 'quickie port of old RR assets in high res and online'. Not that this will deter any fans (or be that bad for that matter), but somehow my expectations are being hedged by the lack of media and timeframe.

A quickie port from what game? The psp one, the ps2 one? You have to be kidding.

Maybe they just want to give the developer some time with beta kits before showing media.

going by old news / rumors from several websites, Ridge Racer 6 was originally being made for the PS2. This was going on either before, during or after the development of R: Racing Evolution. Thus, the unseen RR6 for PS2 (which will now never come out on PS2) has been upgraded / enhanced / beefed-up, improved, etc., for Xbox 360.

WTF??

This game has been in development since summer 2004 and Ridge Racers are FAMOUS for their short dev cycles (I'm talking about between 6-10 months)...

With RR6, Namco will enjoy the longest dev time of any console launch ridge game ever!!! (RR, RRV,RR PSP)

Ridge> you and I

The longer they wait showing us screens of pretty much *anything* on xbox 360, the more I edge away from 'they are holding back to really surprise us' towards 'they are desparately trying to tie everything together for a quickie launch'.

I still hope to be proven wrong, but if MS want to make a big splash, and had some great grabs available, don't you think they'd be tempted to show at least some?

I distinctly remember Diddy Kong Racing appearing from nowhere and it looked kickass. Just because they aren't hyping it up, doesn't mean it's going to be shitty. I'm sure they are jut waiting for TGS or maybe even X05 for some of them

Is there any possibility the updates will be free?

Updates from Namco *might* be free. Who's to say they won't just give stuff away like Team Ninja or Bungie. I think the most likely scenario is a mix of new free stuff and pay downloads.

Note that there's a pretty good chance that user mods will be downloadable for free (all depends on the community) too, though whether you'd be able to race custom cars online etc is a whole different question. You can see how that could totally destroy game balance, or be annoying for other players who have to dl your custom car just to race against you. I'd imagine this stuff would be for single-player only.

THE ABOVE IS PURE SPECULATION

Doesn't Forza let you race customized cars online?

I'm taking out a loan. Seriously....I'm getting an HDTV projector, steering wheel and racing frame just for this game alone. Holy FUCK!!!!!! This is just too much to handle.

My goodness....how much more love can Microsoft give for 360 owners. Fall and winter nights, drifting in harmony with WhippenSean, KLee, Xexex, Fight For Freedom etc, on Xbox live and jockeying for 1st place. Will life get any better than that? Will my heart be able to handle such rapturousness?

+ FUCKING 1!!!!!!! Preach it man!!! If they come out with a 360 version of the NeGcon, that will mean that I will have a controller I can take to work with me, and feel right at home with. I am currently using a NeGcon for a PC racing game called Trackmania Sunrise, and fucking RAWX!!!!. Namco....please please PLEASE make a 360 version of the now defunct NeGcon, with a Live headset slot and WIRELESS!!!!!!! PLEASE!

Exactly.......let me tell you guys something. I will be ready to support Namco no matter WHAT!!!! I WANT them to make d/l content available! I am willing to pay up to $50....that's right...FIFTY FUCKING DOLLARS for a single TRACK!! If Namco came out and was like...."Look niggas. We know ya'll love our game....so here's what we got....a high res version of Shooting Hoops and Overpass City, all in high-def 720p!!! But's gonna cost ya'll 50 bones to get it."......do you actually think I would NOT be on that shit like chocolate on Cocoa Pebbles? C'mon now!!!

Guys....there are still three months until launch....THREE!! That is a LIFETIME to release screenshots and garner hype for the game!! I don't seem to remember there being that many ingame screenshots released for RRV prior to its launch.....do you?

Man....this game with an FF wheel is going to be nothing short of bliss!!!!

How do you know? Seriously, just asking. The game was officially announced a few days ago, three months before the system launches. Maybe you're right and it's been in development forever, but it's just odd that there is no media for a high-profile launch title this close to release. That's all.

You may calm down now.

Memory sticks.

And who's to say the PS3 version won't ship with a lot of those cars & some new ones already on the disc?

This generation will play out like a game of chess or poker. All moves calculated. Like I stated in another thread, Microsoft says that they have 160+ games in development. What have we seen or heard of, roughly half. Give it time.

good point Ice :)

I'll be fine with this if they release it on a separate disc. I will not be going online so there's no need to assfuck the offline X360 users.

Guys....I have some concerns about the game:

1)I am concerned about Namco's ability to make an online racing game without too much lag. Have they EVER made a game with online play before? EVER?

1b)And....do you feel there will be any improvements in 360's Live support that will make games less laggy, than they were on Live for Xbox 1?

2)Does anyone know if this game will infact, be high-res? 720P?

3)Do you think the game will have 5.1DD sound? Has there been any word on it?

4)What kind of due diligence has been done on Namco?

PGR2 had great gameplay with minimal lag. Its all about the players speed when it comes down to it. when someone had a shitty connection they'd hop all over the place. that wasnt the games fault.

Just wait until MS makes it exremely easy for publishers to charge.

Even if they do, it will only last as long as people pay for it. If it goes well, smart biz move. If not then they go back to mostly free content.

I'm hoping the downloadable content will be exclusive stuff not found in any other version. :D

Warthog perhaps as a hidden vehicle? :P

Holy crap I didn't know this was going to be a launch title!

Launching with the first next gen Madden title and launching with a new Ridge Racer game, it's like Xbox 360 has become the new Playstation. :D

1. ) As far as Xbox Live, my games are never laggy, but I went from an 8mbps cable connection to a 15mbps fiber optic connection so I'm not the best judge of whether a game lags. I've seen lag before playing Halo 2, but only in extreme cases where someone obviously has a horrible barely broadband connection. I think Namco will do fine with Xbox Live support since it sounds like MS has kinda integrated Live and custom soundtracks into the hardware and development kits/software much more so than it was in Xbox Live. I think it's going to be a lot easier for developers to add these extra features to their games than it was last generation.

1b.) I think your experience on Xbox Live will always come down to where you are located in the world and the quality of your broadband connection. If you have 1.5mb connection then you are probably going to see lag a lot more than someone with a decent cable connection or a T1 line. All you can really do is just get a better ISP when one becomes available.

2.) All Xbox 360 games have to be at least 720p, it is a basic requirement of all games.

3.) The game will probably have 5.1DD, I would be shocked if any next-gen game didn't.

where do you live that has fiber to the home already? are you in the US? Tell me about it if you are. Price, services etc. is it thru ur phone co? are they offering IPTV as well?
