Ridge Racers PSP: New TV commercial

Wait.. fucking RAVE RACER is in this? Holy crap. I will buy a PSP on launch day for however many tracks are from that game. I used to drive to downtown san antonio because there was an arcade across the street from the Alamo that had that game. I mean, I drove over an hour just to play that game.

Dont get me wrong, I like Rage Racer, Ridge Racer and Revolution too.. but Rave Racer. damn.

Damn that was sweet.. Much better than the other ones. :)
Agreed, especially the RR one. Looks really great, shows off that graphics prowess well. :P I think we've seen the second one before though. But I just love how the screen looks in it.

So am I the only one that until seeing the end of the Ridge Racer commercial didn't know that "Ridge Racers" is called that becasue it is a compelation of all the previous game titles? I mean I knew it was going to have stuff from each of the games, but I didn't know Namco was selling it this way!

What I am refering to is the fact that at the very end of the commercial (RR) it shows all the logos from all the games very quickly!

:lol @ Girl in the Kotoba no Puzzle Mojipittan Daijiten segment (a mouth full) I'd touch her

At least two tracks from Rave Racer are confirmed, and so is the Rave Racer video intro (the game basically has a collection of all the intros from all the RR games, including the beautiful RR4 intro :)

Tracks from Rage are: Lake Side Parkway and Union Hill District.

DS is going to get owned.
Bye Nintendo

Whether you're serious or not, it's true. Sweet commercial. This game is shaping up to be one the best launch titles in ages.

Heh, I know exactly how that girl feeling man... I remember the last time I played a game till morning, gosh I felt messy when I saw the sunlight piecing through my window curtains.

Man, I must... go... jaPPPPPAAANNNNNnnnnnnnnnnnnnn........... >_<

that AD is INSANE. Seriously. PSP vs DS war. We have a winner in the long run. PSP will be raping the DS. For sure. I am floored.

I foresee all DS owners feeling REALLY REALLY cheated when they see a PSP in action.

Unless the PSP is fundamentally flawed (or Sony is not commited for whatever reasons). Welcome to the PSP generation.

: thanks god he has not bought a DS :

Dude give me a break, this is yet again the same old song and dance, my friend. Every time a piece of more powerful hardware has comeout people have said, "This is it, this is the end for Nintendo." Even if Sony Takes 35% of the market share which I'm sure Sega did at one point it doesn't matter. Nintendo is ALWAYS gonna make money on handhelds and the PSP with its short battery life and greater size is not gonna impact it that much.

Is a HUGE diference, and it didn't even dent them. I know you'll say that Sony is being a lot more agresive in the price, but when you start adding memory cards and extra batteries into the picture that $180 price point quickly goes up.

PSP is gonna rock, but I dont think you are gonna see the dethroning of Nintendo by it.

and I forsee all PSP owners feeling REALLY REALLY cheated when they see the PSP in really long loading action, and finds out that the PSP can't really do mobile gaming due to crappy battery life. :lol

I would more clossely agree with this comment. The Battery Issues are gonna hurt the PSP until OSny gets bigger batteries out there!

Ha ha, perhaps that Mojipittan commercial has demonstrated the expected battery? She managed to play all the way until morning...on battery power!

Perhaps not, but you can't deny that Nintendo is in a different position nowadays. While they are still going all Reggie on the competition in the handheld market, Nintendo simply isn't the untouchable name brand it once was. Sony is also in a VERY different position than Sega was at the time of the GG.

There has never been a handheld with so much potential to take on Nintendo. I really don't think the PSP will dethrone Nintendo, but I fully believe they will take a decent portion of the handheld market for themselves.

I don't think they will...

This isn't the Gamegear situation here. The GG required that you PURCHASE new batteries to use in the system. Those new batteries could be DRAINED in just 1 hour. The PSP is said to last over 5 hours when playing Ridge Racers, which isn't bad. I do believe that people have become used to charging portable devices. I mean, cell phones, GBASPs, MP3 players, etc. all need to be recharged. I don't think it will be a huge issue...

For all intents and purposes, the PSP is smaller than DS. Even when it's closed, the DS is bulkier than PSP, and while it's open, it's not even a contest.

You remembered me about the holiday camps we did with the school when we were childs. There were 4 kinds of guys:

1. The one with the Game Gear. The first one to stop playing.
2. The one with the GB. A couple of days of playtime.
3. The one with the Game & Watch. Played the entire camp.
4. The one without anything that played the others systems and drained their batteries. -> ME

You were saying...

Jr, he's right, though.

The PSP is a bit wider while the DS is a bit thicker and taller (when closed). When actually opened, however, the DS is quite a bit larger than the PSP. The extra bit of width on the PSP is nothing compared to the massive height difference in the system. The DS is already taller when closed, but it's double that when opened.

I am saying that PSP's volume is less than that of DS, and when DS is opened, it's front area is probably almost twice that of PSP (all the while the screen surface on PSP is just slightly less than both DS screens combined). Both units weigh about the same, with PSP apparently being slightly lighter. Am I being a bit more clear now?

And is less comfortable if you ask me.

Yes, but this time the playing field is rather more even. Let's break down your Game Boy versus Turbo Express comparison a bit more:

Game Boy - $99 with Tetris, roughly 30 hours battery life
Turbo Express - $250, roughly 3 hours of battery life

The Game Boy was $150 cheaper, came with a truly killer app packed in, and had 10 times the battery life of the Turbo Express. Meanwhile, the difference between the PSP and DS isn't nearly as striking, with a price difference of $50 and, per Nintendo's estimate, the DS battery life of 10 hours is around twice that of the PSP. The comparison really isn't the same.

While we're doing comparisons:

Lynx - $150 w/ California Games, roughly 4-6 hours battery life, 2 hours with rechargables
Game Gear - $150 w/ Columns, roughly 3-4 hours battery life

So, while the Lynx and Game Gear were within price distance of the GBA, the battery life just plain killed them, if only for the cost of replacing them, or the piss-poor life of rechargables. Does the PSP have truly amazing battery life? Nah, but it ain't too bad in comparison to the GBA or DS.

Is this the end for Nintendo? Probably not. Is this finally the chance after fifteen years to see someone really give Nintendo a run for their money in the portable realm? God, I hope so.

Now I KNOW that isn't true...

With brand new batteries, my GG would generally last just a little over an hour before the light would start flashing. I rarely used the thing without an AC adapter...

Important Caveat: I should mention that I was going by old Usenet discussions of various portables, so take my information with a grain of salt. I think it's reasonably accurate, but can't personally vouch for those stats.

Those pictures were photoshoped: they aren't the same width...
