Ridley Scott is working on "Blade Runner 2099" - a live action series for Amazon Studios

yay he can ruin that series like he did Alien.
Ridley Scott direction is such a gamble these days.
Sometimes we get something brilliant, sometimes we get disappointments.

What also made the Blade Runner films so good is thanks in part to screenwriter Hampton Fancher.
Doesn't seem like he's attached to this project, so I'll just have to gauge this whenever it premieres

Ridley is still a great director who has only gotten better with time. Even Prometheus and Covenent which I HATED were an audiovisual masterpiece. The Last Duel was excellent too. The title Duel is one of the best 1v1 battles put on screen since Gladiator.

Just give him a good screenwriter.

Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 are two films I frequently re-watch, so with Ridley Scott on-board I'll remain optimistic.

Scene 1: Crash land on planet or be stable in space.

Most people die, they've been infected!

Survivors have hope, cinema watchers wondering why they bothered getting out of bed.

Explosions! Panic! Out numbering odds!

Everyone dies yet space-ships provide incubation for stupid years.

A stalemate yet the craft drifts to another planet, this one is Alderan.

The craft arrives, the gas goes off as the the plank goes down and slowly a shrouded figure approaches.

The ambassador greats him;

Jar Jar Bink: Messa ...

Cut short by the swift killing Jar Jar slumps. The new Alien swiftly turns away and leaves with patient steps, never to return.

Probably going to be shit.

There have been so many movies and series that have done the Android / humanoid thing in so many variations that I hardly can see this series doing anything original -- and it doesn't help that he thinks his interpretation of Deckard's character actually makes the original movie better (it doesn't). Also doesn't help that there's no more decent book material to base it upon.

I did like the main idea on Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, though. Not revisiting the Deckard character, not the baby thing, nor most of the action scenes; one of which was really annoying and the other (final one) was also boring. K's journey was the interesting thing and they did that really well, as kind of a symmetrical plot arc to the original 's.

Can't beat Ridley Scott's work ethic. I'm pretty sure the only way his dying is a heart attack on set.

All comes down to writers. Hopefully he'll get Jon Speights, Vince Gillian (a big sci fan!) and Dennis aboard and not unknowns like LOTR.

End of series should end up with Replicant technology being acquired by Weyland Yutani.

The story of Blade Runner is a one and done. just leave it.
What made the original Blade Runner great was a multitude of things that are hard to repeat. Mainly the visual presentation of a future to people of the 80's. the story of the Rutger Hauer replicant and that final line he changed.

I’m intrigued but extremely cautious. Ridley Scott has made some of my favorite movies of all time, but he is very erratic in quality and TV is not an easy medium. Amazon did some pretty good work with The Boys and the man in high castle so I guess we wait and see how it plays out.

Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies of all time so I have to have some hype. It probably can’t be worse than what they have done to Star Wars, but that is a pretty low bar.

Ew. Best thing about 2049 was he wasn't involved. And the fact he didn't like it speaks volumes

He didn’t like 2049? Uh oh, I hope this series doesn’t go out of its way to retcon/alter stuff that happened in that film.

I’d say he would be above that, but then it’s like after Prometheus came out and some people didn’t like it, it felt like Alien: Covenant went out of its way to ignore or quickly move on from anything Prometheus set up regardless of the fact that some people did like it okay, and then rather then addressing character making idiotic decisions in Prometheus instead we got characters in Alien: Covenant acting even more stupid.

And before anyone tries to pin it all on the screenwriters, no no, it seems in most productions the director has some level of creative control and it’s not like they’re forced to go by exactly what the script says. And this is Scott, a man with so much hold over Alien that the studio continued to focus on his films and cancelled the District 9 director’s planned sequel to Aliens.

So rather than finally having Alien 3 and Resurrection removed from continuity (sure, the new film might not have been great, but I doubt I’d hate it as much as 3 and 4) we got one okay film and one bad film that shat all over the prior okay film (and couldn’t even remember continuity, so David is the creator of Xenomorphs? Then what the fuck was with the mural in Prometheus?) Yaaaaaay.

I think Scott has said how science fiction doesn't have anything to offer any more, which is why he does stuff with his science fiction projects which do interest him, like ancient aliens theories and roman cults. I think his work does depend a lot on the work his writers do. Blade Runner had a writing team who went deep on the source material and worked hard to interpret it for the screen rather than just transcribe it. Prometheus had Damon Lindhof who went from shitting up Lost with his God bothering nonsense to shitting up Alien with his god bothering nonsense. What happens after we die? There is no after we die because we will not exist then and immortal souls don't exist, you dumb hack.

I thought that 2049 was bloated and belaboured obvious themes too much, while having an overall creepy vibe that I didn't enjoy. Not too much to complain about with how it looked, but I'd be interested in hearing what Ridley Scott had to say.

So long as he keeps the Joy hologram so Ana De armas can prance around half naked, I'm in.

That girl is a treasure, she brightens up so many otherwise dreary films like BR2049, Knives Out, and NTTD.

Its officially moving forward:

Set 50 years after 2049. Would be cool to have Ryan Gosling back as a new character but same model a la Terminator 2. Amazon can afford it lol
Amazon just blew a billion on The Rings of Power. The least they can do is finance this with everything it needs, hopefully without any ideologically possessed morons being part of the production.

I didn't think i was going to enjoy black lotus until I saw it online somewhere. The fight choreography was really good.

Finally, an opportunity to merge the Blade Runner & Alien Universe..officially.

Disappointing if we don't get to see 'Weyland-Yutani' adverts plastered all over the city :)

If this is some kind of hard boiled detective show, based in Los Angeles, and vastly expanding on the lore of Blade Runners, then I could definitely see this being pretty damn good. This feels like a project more suited to Amazon Studios than something like Lord Of The Rings. Jeff can play the evil CEO of Tyrell Corp 2.

No, he directed Prometheus and Alien Covenant, IIRC. Honestly not sure why those two get so much hate. They are decent flicks.
Oh, I knew what ConsumeMediaByte was talking about.

And yes, they're decent flicks. Both MUCH better than Alien 3 and 4. Like much much better. Much much much better.

But you know. Just consume media, guys. Grrrrrrr Alien Covenant

Suprised we are getting a new one despite how bad the last one flopped.
Both the original Blade Runner film and 2049 performed poorly at the box office, but had cult followings after the fact, it's a tradition at this point :messenger_smirking:
For me, it's also an indicator there weren't artistic concessions made in hopes of appealing to a general audience.
