Rio Karma died. What to move on to?

My Rio Karma that I got about a year ago from best buy has now kicked the bucket, refusing to finish booting up. I'm not too worried though because I have my whole library backed up onto my computer, ready to transfer in the case of such an incident. Best Buy apparently no longer carries the Karma, so it's time to choose a new player.

I've been bouncing back and forth between the Creative Nomad Zen, and the Iriver (but that's only if best buy will let me spend a little more in addition to their warranty voucher thing).

The Karma was 299, the Iriver is 329, if i gave them 30 bucks in addition would they let me get that?

I'm open to other suggestions though.

Best Buy will be more than thrilled to take extra money and give you something already in the store :)

Rio Karma? The famous latin american singer?

Nah, the mp3 player.

C'mon, theres gotta be some people out there with experience with various mp3 players. The iRiver is quite enticing to me but i'm still considering the Nomad and (somewhat less enthusiastically) the iPod.

maybe you just just try to fix it instead of buying something new. It sounds to me like the battery is dead. I'd be a little pissed if I bought something for $300 and a year little its pretty much useless.

No the battery is very much fine. It's the hard drive that died.

To clarify, I have a warranty for $350 dollars, so all I'll be paying for is another warranty.

I'm actually starting to lean towards the iRiver H320 right now. Infact I almost got one today, but my dock is locked in my dorm and i don't go back to school for another week, so I can't get at it yet, and they wouldn't take it back without it.

I'm a bit of an audiophile though, so I'm swaying from the Ipod because it's sound is supposedly inferior to most other players.

It's damn sexy though.

You might want to find out for yourself before deciding. I personally have noticed no sound quality difference on the iPod, so just hit an Apple store and investigate for yourself.

In terms of UI and more audio focused capabilites the previous model H-120 is seeminly better. But I guess if you want a colour lcd they are both good. Or depending on your warranty you could wait for the iRiver next model (I think it comes out in Febuaury).

Basically from people who have own a lot of mp3 player the iPod has a more 'natural\neutral' sound while other players have a more 'processed\hi-fi' sound. If you're looking for heavy bass the iPod isn't the best bet (unleass you got headphones that are coloured to be bass heavy- even then I still miss the bass ;_;- though I don't like to mess with the eq)

The way you describe it the ipod sounds like the better sound, hmm. I like to hear my music as it was recorded, not with boosted anything. Unfortuantely theres no apple stores near me.

The main draw of the iRiver is the ability to record. That way I can tape my lectures and i'll have a decent way of recording my guitar. The picture viewing is nice, but not completely necessary. I did a search on the new iriver and couldn't find anything, what will be it's advantages over the previous generation.

Basically theres going to ba 2gb mobel than 20, 40 etc. Bascially it's got 'touch' and a removable battery, maybe a longer battery life.
Though this is an iRiver fansite and probably has more up to date info http://misticriver.us/

Best Buy has the H320 on clearance for a while now. Reports off Fatwallet.com are going from $266 down to $214. Of course, all my BB's (metro Atlanta) are only at $266 ><.

In terms of UI and Usability, iPod is the best. There's absolutely no question about this.
In fact, I sold my H120 simply because I needed usability more than the loads of features.
