Rise of the Ronin | Reveal Trailer | PS5 Exclusive

It's irrealistic, one has a chinese setting, the other a japanese one. If Wo Long is based on the Three Kingdoms there are more than 1500 years between that game setting and Rise of the Ronin setting. It's not their fault if people can't distinguish them just bc they are from the same developer. Can you distinguish two Assassin's Creed games, right?
Not just 2. I could not correctly identify trailers or images of at least the first 4 AC games. A probable super majority of their audience couldn't either. The macro similarities was the largest criticism of the series' early games.

Cool, let's keep the Samurai train a rollin', eventually Capcom will announce an Onimusha reboot.

I definitely see myself playing Rise of Ronin, looks awesome.

Sorry, I don't get why this is PS5 exclusive. In some ways it feels like a PS360 game (shaders, bloom, etc).

It may be fun tho.

Team ninja is great when it comes to gameplay but their tech sucks. Their games look like they are a gen behind everything else and yet they push the hardware hard

Strangers in paradise can literally look like a PS3 game at times and you can't get a 60fps lock on Ps5 or SX, not even at 1080p.

You have tu run the PS4 version which runs at 720p to get a near 60fps lock on Ps5 and even that's not perfect.

On PC they require a 1060 to run the game at 720p 30fps. The 1060 is dated sure but it still runs nice looking open world games like Horizon at 60fps/1080p with mid settings.

If Sony isn't careful, this will be eating Ghost of Tsushima 2's lunch! Looks fucking sick, can't wait to see more 🤘
doubtful.

Fans will simply buy both and they are just too different to even be compared. We don't know the era set for Ghost 2, it may have nothing to do with the last character and from what we know of the IP, its unlikely seeking some souls, Nioh type thing. Both titles simply take place in Japan......thats it.

Its like saying Yakuza Ishin will eat in sales of Ghost as if fans of that shit won't just buy both or something lol They'll be ok.

Roronoa Zoro Roronoa Zoro imho Onimusha 2 is the best one, followed by 1 and 3, 4. They are all great titles though regardless.

Or Sekiro eating Ghost's lunch.

NP, the opening of 3 is fucking amazing! I also love the use of action movie stars as that was pretty rare at that time. The memories. Thats one of the few series I always return to a few times a gen and dust off the PS2 or BC PS3 lol So its cool to see these games come out in this time period or set in Japan at all. Samurai and Ninja fans will be spoiled for a bit lol

DeepEnigma DeepEnigma even then, this world seems much more grounded then Sekiro from what we've seen. I think they are all different enough as Japan seems to be the only setting as even the time frames are different.

So is this more of a 'realistic' time period game like ghost of tsushima? I.e. no fantastical elements?
Going by the blog post, yeah. It's primarily focused on depicting a fictional period setting than dark fantasy like Wo Long and Nioh.

Yasuda: We at Koei Tecmo, have had many titles in the past that were based on history. But with Rise of the Ronin, we set out to take the next big step. By harnessing all the skills and knowledge we've gained over the years we really wanted to take things to the next level by attempting to thoroughly portray the most critical revolution in the history of Japan including the darkest and ugliest chapters that many will shy away from.

Their aesthetics/art design alone are different enough. I also don't see GoT2 before 2025/6.

Cool.

Tbh I rather Tecmo Koei switched it and Wo Long was the console exclusive for playstation and this was the multiplat game.

Not that I can't like realistic games too but the period of Japan I like most is any era prior to the arrival of guns. The Sengoku Era is the most popular in portrayal and I'm ok with that too because the gunpowder weapons were still very crude then. Whereas this is about the period of modernization in the 19th century...so it has rifles hundreds of years more advanced than the Sengoku era.

So that makes it lose a lot of mystique to me.

I know, what a total shit show eh? I mean the game isn't releasing till 2024 but it should play perfectly already because of reasons.............
No, instead, let's release a video with choppy frames and bad PS4 graphics that even GoT 3 years ago looked better. that will hype the game up ............

Even the video needs more time. Also, what the hell is the point to release a video of a game not coming till 2024 if not even delayed more since its a clearly a placeholder date? it's not even good looking game to get hyped about.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely plan to buy both. That being said I feel like it's comparable to Ghost on a number of levels, beyond taking place in Japan:
  • Engaging sword combat with a potential focus on stealth + shinobi tools
  • Open world
  • You play as a wandering samurai/ronin
  • Taking place in an extremely volatile time period
Sure, they might be in completely different eras, but they share enough in common on initial impression. I'm a bit obsessed with samurais and these titles have most of what I'm looking for.

I don't really speak for the purchasing habits of others however. We've had more than a few samurai/ninja games in recent past and one could possibly see this just another to add to the lot.

If this game were to be particularly successful, this might draw reasonable comparisons to Ghost of Tsushima 2 and put the titles in a competition of sorts.

^ You make good points.

We'll have to see where they differ when more info comes out.

Very true. I have to see how dat horse feels doe! lol I loved the movement of the horse in that game.

Sengoku Era is my favourite period, as well or the unrealistic depiction Nioh and Sekiro did. This is definitely aiming to be more in style to KT's other historical games/Ghost of Tsushima. At the very least the Bakumatsu period provides grounds for quite an interesting and entertaining setting and story.

Looks like Sekiro + me 😍

I guess that's why Sony didn't care about Wo Long. They had the best project from Team Ninja.

True.

I keep forgetting that its a thing lol. I was surprised to see this as I assumed that Wo Long game would keep Team Ninja busy, maybe they are a larger team or getting help from some other team or something.

Low effort bait like this rewards you with a reply ban.
This looks like a low budget PS4 game. In fact, some PS3 games look better than this.

It doesn't look very next gen, but lol no. There are no PS3 open world games that look anywhere close to this. But it does look like it would be right at home on PS4 for sure.

Were you expecting next gen graphic from nioh team? Their latest games can barely be considered AAA.

I think it looks perfectly fine, like a good mid tier ps4 game, probably in 4k60 on nextgen console or close to that.

The fact that this game was in development for 7 years likely shows it was put on PS5 after the fact.

It's funny how far they've "fallen" from their original Xbox heyday, where Ninja Gaiden was an incredible technical showpiece for the 6th generation.

So a game still in development yet you have seen the finished product? Stop chatting shit it releases in 2024. I wish Karen's like you wouldn't be so stupid. The polishing stage is near the end of development.

New to gaming I see. Imagine actually believing the game will look significantly better. Even Nioh 2 looks like a fucking turd. It's been always their style, which is generic shit. Great combat but their art team is poop.
