RiverCity Ransom 2 (DS)

Awesome.

One of the things that made the original a blast to play was the interactive environment.

That winning formula looks to be improved upon now that it's all-out 3D.

Can you say GTA: River City?

You sound like a bad press release.

I might play it, if it controls alright and the characters are animated well.

I was really disappointed when I clicked that link though.

WTF, someone on IRC was saying how HORRIBLE this looks.

That's like.. average. Hopefully it looks good in motion.

haha, so it's a fan-made game? or just fan-made pics?
pics

briefly the first half of the page says
(I may be wrong)

the pics are originally come from a message board
each character use 261 polygons and 6 characters in one screen + background in 30fps is totally around 70,00 polygons
and this is possible to run on DS hardware

The characters look okay on screen, but the texture work is horrible. Still, does this really need to be in 3D? I think not.

Part of me hope you're right, part of me want a River City Ransom 2, no matter what it looks like.

As a guy who's been known to make mockup screenshots, I find it cool to see one with such a relatively lot amount of work put into it, and to stay well within the DS's limitations. My work usually consisted of stuff like cropping/rearranging SNES images into 240x160.

As a big RCR fan, it's disappointing it's not actually in the works. Such a fun and well-liked retro game, yet beyond Technos Samurai, RCR EX, and "tribute" PC game Zombie Smashers X, there hasn't been much like it in 15 years.

I don't know nothing about River City Ransom, but that looks somehow really bad, but fun. They should make a Jet Set Radio with that style (okay the Skaters could look less SD).

Needs texture filtering (can the DS even do that?), and more importantly, better lighting and shadows. Heck, even a sprite shadow blob is better than nothing at all.

A 3D RCR could work.

Yeah, if you couldn't tell from all the -_-;; and ?? on the Ruliweb page, those River City Ransom shots are fake. From what my fiance translated for me, the first part basically states:

"We are aware that someone has posted the following screen shots. To avoid any confusion, these were posted for fun by the user to show RCR and what it might look like on the DS. It's not coming out. We want to end rumor before there is any more talk about this game because of these screen shots."

Fake...

I'm glad it's fake. I hope this serve as a nice experiment telling Nintendo that this game HAVE TO BE 2D if it's ever in the making for DS.

Why? This game can look good in 3D too provided the right people are behind it. And 2D doesn't necessarily guarantee good gameplay (note the shitty SNES Kunio games as a striking example of this)

That's not exactly what i meant. I'm yet to see great looking 3D game on DS. That's the only reason why i'm saying that River City Ransom 2 should be 2D on DS if it ever exist.
Yeah i know Mario64x4 and Mario Kart doesn't look bad at all. They look "good".
I don't like to come back at 32 bitters era 3D graphics.

Honestly, I think that conception's better looking than what Million could probably do. I'm still hoping Atlus USA brings over the Kunio collections though.

Not Awesome: The 3D graphics in RCR DS.

Awesome: Having my speakers cranked at work and jumping 2 feet out of my chair when Korean Pop suddenly starts blaring from an ad on that RCR link. Everyone is staring at me now. My cover is blown.

I'd rather have a collection of the Kunio games that didn't come over, with fixed controls. They can toss this one in an incinerator

GBA is getting that, although it's double-game packs.
