Robert Kirkman: “My good friend Steven Yeun is playing the Sentry in a movie….he went in for a costume fitting.”

Have no idea who sentry is but a quick Google search shows he's like the most whitest blondest character I've ever seen basically a thor 2.0🤣 I have zero connection to character and give zero fucks if that yeuns character (although he seems a weird casting with how small he is) I very much like Steven in just about every role he's played, so will be interesting to see how it goes.

I am curious how the fat beaver baby boy or whatever his name is will take this news and his whole incel organization of youtubers.

It does seem weird marvel is just going plop the strongest hero in all of Marvel (at least according to google) into a random thunderbolts movie and if the rumors are to be believed a ripoff suicide squad story.

All just screams bad modern Disney writing

I was bummed that he might be wasted on sentry until I saw he's the villain which makes sense. Not a huge fan of the character but I'll see this in the theater cause of yeun

Yeun as a deranged yet oddly stoic villain? I can't wait to see this.

Also, I'm getting de ja vu. I feel like I heard rumors about this literally years ago.

Modern? This has been happening since before the 60s. A small subsection of the internet decided to make it an issue in the modern day however. Ultimately if he does a good job then it will justify itself.
It’s not even comparable to how often it happens today. Sure we had the odd black Catwoman or ginger blackwashing like in Shawshanl Redemption but it’s not as common as today.

Steven Yuen is a good actor - you think he should be the next Superman?

Feels like a trap question 😂

Personally, as eloquently stated earlier, I believe Steven Yeun’s acting skills would be wasted on Marvel crap.

If I had to choose though, I’d be intrigued to see him as Batman. The character’s nuanced nature, grappling with inner turmoil and conflict, seems like a perfect match for Yeun’s depth as an actor. However, I’m not sure if the world is quite ready for an Asian Batman, but I would definitely be there day one.

It should be a white man as Batman. At least it should be for the next 50 years. It makes sense for him to be white for a lot of reasons. Even Lucius's son had to hide his skin (the cowl). It could work... But... I dunno. I mean Steven is light enough that the idea works with the cowl as is. And he's a great actor.

Not saying that I disagree with you, but why 50 years and what are those reasons you mentioned?

Could revamp the story so that Steven's Bruce Wayne is adopted 😂

What are your thoughts about Steven as Superman?

It could work with him as Superman... Or even as a black Superman (which exist in the DC multiverse)... It depends on how you tell the story.

As for Steven as Batman... I said that to say because Bruce is white and comes from old money... Almost no one non-white comes from old money like the Waynes. In America, that's pretty much exclusively a thing for white people (I already know the usual suspects will laugh react to me saying this but it's true). If Batman was black, given the state of this country and race relations in general, even if Gordon trusted him, the other cops wouldn't... Labeling him a criminal even when he catches the supervillains they can't. It MIGHT be the same for an Asian Batman BUT the cowl and Steven's light skin tone might belay those suspicions.

Does that make sense?

You are aware that Gotham isn't a real place right? Or Metropolis? They don't live in the real world. There's no reason Bruce Wayne can't be black other than that he was created as a white man.

No it doesn’t. Because as OmegaSupreme said Gotham’s USA is not the same as real USA.

Then what of the Court of Owls? Honestly I don't really care about that question and am not knowlegable about Batman lore but the Waynes are a very old family. I see that like in Mad Men, when we learn about Pete Campbell family. In most stories where do you come from don't matter really much. That is why Peter Parker and Miles morales are the same, and only decades of history make me like Peter more than Miles. You absolutely can make Bruce black. I would even think that someone like Michael Jai White would be perfect for it and would love to see such a Batman movie. But it would need to change quite a few parts of Batman backstory, and of the world history at large. Are we still in a world where the Belgian oppression of Congo happened if one of the most powerful families of Gotham, and by extension the world, is originated from there? I would love to read a fanfic about this premise, how it change the world at large and what it means for Batman in particular. In the dark knight trilogy, Alfred have a back story as a elite soldier for the UK. Here, he would probably be from another country, for example.
As for sentry, I don't know about Steven Yeun but I fear more about how they will use him than if he is a good fit for the character. Will they allow someone to be more powerful than Captain Marvel? If yes how to make him loose without making him a farce?
