No but one of the marshals in the main town looks exactly like Doc Holliday and one of the bad guys at Fort Mercer looks like Johnny Ringo.

Have you guys ever read this? http://chuckpalahniuk.net/features/shorts/guts

Oh. my. god.

I have the book that it's in and all of his previous books signed by Chuck. I used to be really into his books but no so much any of his newer ones.

The reading I went to where he signed all my books he just told filthy stories the whole time because "fuck it you all have the books anyway you don't need to hear me read them." He told a hilarious story about how he passed a bunch of kidney stones one night laying in a bathtub naked drinking vodka straight from the bottle. He said it was like "giving birth to a sandpaper baby through your dickhole".

He has such a way with words.

Always cracks me up when someone reads Guts for the first time. I still think it's unbelievable that Chuck had a few people vomit on him when he was going around with it while he was on tour.

I've been meaning to get to his books for a while, where should I start? Fight Club?

Fight Club is great and easily accessible since the movie is so popular, Choke is fucking great and far better than the film. Survivor might be my favorite and Invisible Monsters is also good. If you really like those 4 then I'd suggest moving on to his others, I have three more that I like. His style is very minimalistic so he describes things in great detail rather than telling you about them outright, he uses a repetitive style as well to really drive home a certain thing in just about ever book he's written.

I read Survivor years ago. I remember liking it, but I can't remember much of the story.

I got Snuff and didn't really get hooked at all.

Snuff isn't very good, he'd started to go downhill in my opinion after his first 5 books.

I'm a huge Kurt Vonnegut fan. If you like Chuck I feel like he draws from Vonnegut (amongst others) in his writing. Everything I've ever read by Vonnegut has been amazing.

How's Pygmy? Thought it looked interesting.

As great as the book is, I'm so glad the film for American Psycho went in a completely different direction. The content would have been way too much to see on screen and we also got a killer evisceration (har har) of the 80s alpha male out of it.

I'm surprised we're not getting any DLC from STP next week seeing as they have a new album out. Also, I imagine that the Soundgarden DLC will be coming when their tour starts.

They've apparently licensed one of their lead-off singles off the new album for GH6 and they gave the impression that they did the same for RB3; we probably won't see anything from them until later this summer.

hmm, interesting. Haven't heard anything from the new album yet but I keep reading "it's as good as the Beatles" reviews and there's no way that can be hyperbole, right?

If you want really fucked up, look no further than American Psycho. Still the most violent piece of media I've come across. It's also my favorite book in general.

Wow. I can't imagine how someone would formulate that writing.

What's great about American Psycho the book is that Bateman narrates everything he does like that, no matter how mundane an action it turns out to be. It adds such a sinister and inhuman vibe to the proceedings that just isn't possible in any other format. Bret Easton Michaels is such an evil genius.

I haven't read it yet but I want to. It does sound good.

And Dave everyone told me to stop reading the Dark Tower after book 4 so I did. I plan on finishing it some day but apparently the books after 4 aren't as good and the ending is atrocious. Again I'm only going on the word of other people here, I haven't spoiled it for myself so I can't comment. The Stand is really good though I'd suggest sticking with that.

If you're looking for Vonnegut suggestions though, Galapagos is my favorite book by him. I couldn't put it down, I think I read it in a day the first time I picked it up. Cat's Cradle, Breakfast of Champions, and obviously Slaughterhouse Five are all amazing. I really liked Timequake a lot too.

Or you could listen to him:

In Chapter 18 of his book Palm Sunday, "The Sexual Revolution", Vonnegut grades his own works. He states that the grades "do not place me in literary history" and that he is comparing "myself with myself." The grades are as follows:

* Player Piano: B
* The Sirens of Titan: A
* Mother Night: A-plus
* Cat's Cradle: A-plus
* God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater: A
* Slaughterhouse-Five: A-plus
* Welcome to the Monkey House: B-minus
* Happy Birthday, Wanda June: D
* Breakfast of Champions: C
* Slapstick: D
* Jailbird: A
* Palm Sunday: C

Is he friends with Bret Easton Ellis?

I have no idea how I messed up the last name like that. I blame the late nights I've been having at MH3's mercy, or lack thereof.

:lol

I was just busting your balls. I agree with your last statement a lot though the narrative is fucking perfect in that book. The pages and pages stacked up talking in detail about a Huey Lewis and the News cd just puts you right into the mind of this maniac. It's completely brilliant.

The sheer level of detail translates to all ares of his life in the book not just the sex and violence. It's actually Patrick Bateman talking (except for a weird and intricately designed switch near the end of the book) to you the whole time so he describes what's going in his own words as he sees fit. It's really a fucking great book, I can't praise it enough.

It get's worse than those three pages as well so be warned. The spacing between truly gruesome killings is usually far enough apart though that it's not overwhelming.

Yea because the average person googles the author of Fight Club

Dude, he's massively popular in college circles. I think he was the only author we read in my short fiction class that everyone knew.

(We read Escort, not Guts. We also read the original Brokeback Mountain. That story goes on forever.)
