we're told that there will be a "pro" mode included in the game that will require proper technique, and may lead to actual skills on guitars and bass. How this will work isn't known, but it's possible Mad Catz may create a product that more closely mimics an actual guitar.

In order for patches to be possible, hooks must be encoded into the original data. DLC does NOT allow for this, for a lot of reasons, most set by Sony and MS. Instead, if you want to 'patch' a song, the patch just download's a new version of the song, and deletes the old one. They're not going to do this for 1000+ songs. They're not going to do it for 100...hell, they're not going to do it for 10.

The songs, as we have them now, are how they'll play in RB3, unless keyboard has some automatic charting mechanic that uses a combination based on the existing charts.

Here's my guess on pro mode:

It will be like Hard/Expert DJ Hero where you have to alt strum according to arrows on the notes. I'm almost at the point of taking a bet there won't be a realtar.

Edit for other random guesses:

- Quicker fail out
- Forced use of solo buttons
- Absolutely no leeway in note hit timing

That's a little harder to do with a guitar than with a turntable. The sound doesn't change regardless if you hit the string with an upstroke or a downstroke, unless we're talking chords.

Yeah I know. I was just trying to think of something semi-realistic for pro mode other than a 120 button guitar.

And I'm specifically talking about something with 100+ buttons. If they put out some monstrosity that works with "real" strings or whatnot, it doesn't count.

Edit for fairness: My inside source buddy gives absolutely zero shit about the music game genre so I'm not cheating.

How in the living hell would they display what to play on the screen though?

They would have to give the actual note/chord name and not like Green-Fucshia-Magenta to Carnation Pink-Baby Blue-Red.

You couldn't use proper technique with a buttoned instrument, though. You can't do bendings or slides for example. That would be so much fail. But the keytar is, too, lol Harmonix.

Yeah I would love something with strings, even if it was gimped to two or three. I've always wanted to do bends and many song charts would benefit from slides.

A lot of good songs with piano is fine, but if they ignore bands that should be on there as a result, it will be a deal-breaker for me. (i.e. no Foo Fighters, no sale:D )

How about more The Who songs or no sale... or more Pearl Jam or no sale... or more No Doubt or no sale...? Hey guys, where's all the Grateful Dead at?!!!


So many amazing bands and artists sit virtually untouched by RB or GH, and you want more Foo. *facepalm*

I just don't like that route HMX is taking. The only way to experience a guitar better is by playing a real one. Strings would be horrible for a plastic instrument. But so would be a 60+ buttoned instrument. It's just that every option is pretty much shit. They should just leave it at it, people grab real instruments if they want, anyway.

If it is keytar I'd imagine that you'd be able to lay it on it's side and play normally like a keyboard. i donno, but I'm looking forward to whatever it is.

Yeah, but it'll be off the recent one that is mostly like Rammstein. Just like when publishers assume you want new In Flames music and not Jotun.

I like the new album for what it is, and Dream Oblivion has some seriously awesome keyboard.

Though props +1000 for you for liking good In Flames. They're like, worse than Weezer now.
