I never heard the song before. My buddy gave me money to buy it and we never played it until someone picked it tonight.

I would have failed by 30% if I didn't figure out I could sing it super deep and get credit for it. Me <- doesn't understand the concept of pitch. Hence why I just scream in bands.

Edit: Oh I didn't know I was playing with Charron. What's up? As you can tell, I'm not a singer hehe.

Eh, probably better at it than I am. :lol Though I'm gonna try to learn a lot of composition-type stuff over the summer, and I may just push all the way to building a solo project. So I'll probably need to learn to sing at some point...

I can't wait to play Clocks in RB3.

if it's a keytar. YOU CAN FORGET playing ANY Coldplay.

as a lifelong pianist - the keytar idea is one of the biggest disappointments of my life.

like teenage pregnancy.

I'll play with you later in the weekend. I gotta go to bed in like an hour so I'll probably do Dragon Age or something.

K, I'll at least d/l it now then. Watch it drop to $10 tomorrow.

Edit: Unless there are more stragglers out there. We'd save $7.50 a piece buying the four pack.

I didn't see this posted in here. KB confirmed for RB3. (no keytar?)

okay - well this gives me some hope and has me taking a few steps back from the ledge I was about to jump off of. (keytar support = suicide)

after reading this I'm thinking it's probably a 2 octave keyboard that you HAVE THE OPTION to wear like a keytar for easy and medium charting but can also be a badass and play full out expert or PRO mode on for full on "I'm amazing and have played piano my entire life so watch and be amazed" effect.

Raises hand.

I don't care if they add more peripherals, I'm just worried what it means about the on-disc songs. However, I've never liked on-disc songs so it won't utterly kill me.

I think I confused Dave tonight because I didn't export RB1. I only cared about three songs so I never bothered.

I only cared about 10 or so RB1 songs, but you still gotta export it, man. Just for the team.

in 18 days we will have our first look at Rock Band 3... The game many of us will be playing and talking about for the next 2-3 years.

(also - in 9 days and 1 hour - Steve Jobs is going to announce the release date of the new iPhone. I can't wait because I've been holding out on the whole smartphone bandwagon and will finally take the leap day one of the new iPhone's release - I'm stuck on AT&T so it's iPhone or bust for me (no Android phones available on AT&T).)

RB3 > new iPhone by A MILLION FUCKING MILES.

I've only played RB online twice outside of that competition we did a couple years ago. There was no team in my eyes. :lol

Dave picking Headphones On as the first song > iphone

seriously... how can you not export RB1?! If you've spent $5 on DLC you should be willing to spend the $5 on RB1. As said above... "for the team."

I'm kind of hoping you can just turn a Rock Band guitar sideways and just use the lower fret as an extra five keys. That's how my friend who plays piano does guitar on expert lol.

Man I'm going to be drunk tonight. I only drink rich peoples' beer and vodka but someone (no clue who) left a case of Bud Light over here last week and I'm buzzed enough to keep it down. I'm going to tear through the whole thing just to get it out of my fridge.

Hep C can lick my sweaty butt.

I can remember playing Guitar Hero 1 with a bunch of friends. I was playing "Frankenstein" on expert and that keyboard player was on stage during the breakdown randomly hitting keys.

My brother's girlfriend saw the keyboard player and was like "why don't they let you play keyboard in this game?"

Guitar Hero 1 came out in 2005. Rock Band 3 is coming out in 2010. It's taken them 5 years to finally release a keyboard / support keyboard playing in the game.

I can understand a lot of the hardcore guitarists / drummers not giving a shit about keyboard support but there are a lot of other players who have no interest in picking up a fake plastic guitar but would be willing to try their hand(s) at some piano/keyboard action. It's a great instrument for spectators on the sidelines who wanna play a part in the action but don't want to be in the spotlight.

It also allows Harmonix to charts hundreds of songs that have too much piano/keyboard in them to chart otherwise... so it's a win for non-keyboard players too. EVERYONE'S A WINNER. /except for some guitarists who are lame and only play by themselves and don't want anyone else but the guitarist to have fun.

I'm hoping it is a full on keyboard and not a keytar. I don't have any real investment in either instrument and I sure as hell have no clue how to play either one, but the way I see it a keyboard would be more challenging than a keytar. A new challenge is really the only thing I'm hoping to get out of a new instrument. That's how I got into drums and in the end it became my main instrument so who knows what might happen with a keyboard.

I'm excited for keyboard. I bought one a few months ago to learn and put it off to the side so I could finally become more competent on my guitar, but the game could help me renew my want to play it again.

unless HMXThrasher sees no difference between a "keyboard" and "keytar"...

Rock Band 3 will "include KEYBOARD support"

Hey everyone - happy Friday!

It's awesome that you've all been discussing the little surprise we snuck into the GDRB demo. Some of you have posed questions about what that little surprise means and right now I can answer one - we are very excited to confirm keyboard support for RB3.

We know you've all got a TON of other questions but sit tight - we'll have a lot more RB3 news in a few weeks at E3. (Trust us, you'll be amazed).

If you haven't gotten to see the RB3 teaser screen for yourself yet, the Green Day Rock Band demo is still available. Download it to check everything out for yourself.

Yeah, hopefully he realizes that it is an important distinction to be made, especially with the rumors going around that it was going to be a keytar. It would be pretty disappointing if they turn around and announce keytar and try to brush comments like that under the rug as simply being 'vague for the sake of preserving some of the surprise' or some shit. A keytar just would not be an interesting addition to the formula(at least not in my opinion).

You know they will on Expert.
How do you chart that especially in 4-5 player mode though? If you're playing two handed it would pretty much require two octaves. Even 10 buttons would be a wee bit lame albeit somewhat passable.

I was surprised it took OT like 24 hours to make a thread about it.

I have no clue, but after looking at how Harmonix wants people to transfer over to a real instrument as seamlessly as possible, not doing both hands seems like a step back from their goal.

Im ready to make my donation, somebody PLEASE give me the link to the donation site. I tried with the one I had and it gives me a fatal error.

It's just a matter of showing all the info on screen, and creating a piece of hardware that has enough keys to accommodate it while still being a keytar.

what do you mean?

enough keys to accommodate while still being a keytar???

who said it HAS to be a keytar?

if this "Pro" mode has any fact to it - they'll definitely chart two hands NOTE FOR NOTE.

and even if there isn't a pro mode I can't see Harmonix skipping the opportunity to teach real two-handed piano/keyboard parts through their game.

it's true that fitting it all on the screen is going to be VERY VERY VERY difficult but that might be a sacrifice hardcore players are willing to make i.e. "if you choose to play with the full band - you won't be able to see any cg characters on screen"

I've defnitely been losing interest in the stupid cg characters dancing around on stage. it's all pretty lame. the crowds look stupid too - especially in Harmonix games (the only rhythm games I play)

btw Baker, 2 octaves would have 14 buttons, not counting black keys.
I was counting black keys because chords would be lame without them in my opinion. However, I can understand their exclusion in a plastic instrument game I guess.

TheGreatDave said:
The real question is how many keys they'll chart to.

I can't imagine a scenario in which we're playing two handed, but I'd like to be proven wrong.
If it doesn't scale up to two handed playing then HMX shouldn't have even bothered.

If you don't have sharp keys it may as well be a guitar. No thx.

flat > sharp

two octaves would look like this:

I own one of these bad-boys for portable midi playing and it's not too terrible to play on.

Still... three octaves or full midi support (which REALLY makes the most sense) is the only way Harmonix is going to make this a viable option for the general public.

The general public can't play more than 3 buttons on the guitar.

And you have to remind them to strum every song.

now that I think about it - all they'd need to sell would be a "midi-translator" which could work in between any midi keyboard and your console (360/ps3/wii) to translate the midi signal into something suitable for the console / Rock Band to understand.

birdman said:
Well...they technically are.

So then I'll call them sharp notes forever, regardless of the technicalities that makes such phrasing inaccurate.

I don't see how Harmonix can fit all this info on screen anyway. Multiplayer especially.
