Who the hell is BenjaminBirdie and why is he posting in this thread?
Wait... I think I remember him. Didn't they make a movie about him? He ages in reverse or some shit.

I'm hoping the giant bomb stuff will show some of the other new stuff, like the new trill mechanics and the new solo fgameplay/multiple instrument options.

I probably won't even export RB2. I haven't played an on-disc song in at least a year besides the one time Dave chose Aqualung online.
Yeah I won't too. I exported RB1 8 months after RB2 came out just to play online with the guys here.

A good song is a good song. Good thing I never played Burnout Paradise, I guess? .
Burnout Paradise is an amazing game, there's a bunch of haters here ignore them and get the game.

You guys maybe think they're sitting on Led Zep or something? It would make the hefty NDA amount make a whole lot more sense. The whole actually teaching kids how to play guitar may have swayed Jimmy Page into signing off on it.

I would bet on Pink Floyd rather than Zeppelin.

Didn't some record label big shot show some interest in PF Rockband after the Beatles game?

Note to HMX: I would give my left ball for PF Rockband.

I wouldn't :(

The emphasis on real instruments being the thing that pisses off Hitler is dumb. Real instruments will be super niche.

Keytar is what he should have been freaking out about.

But, it's not a keytar.

I'm not trying to use it as an insult. But it is keytar shaped.
They also said it was a prototype, but I think the intention is to be able to play it like a keytar as well. For those goons that like to stand and play.

Yeah. Which is totally cool. Keytar isn't an insult, even if Archie is a sensitive babyman.

It'll be fine for the lower difficulties, 80s songs (for realism), and lower teir songs. But I expect it will make it much harder to play on pro mode while standing. But seriously when you are going after the mass market the keytar makes sense.

Think we will see screens of the new instruments when the embargo is up? I wonder if they have finished versions of the new drum set, the video seemed to imply that the hi hat was collapsable, or maybe I was reading too much into what he was saying. I fully expect a hi hat pedal in pro mode too.

Red guitar looks new.

Pretty sure that was just the Logitec one.

I though they said no hi-hat in pro mode? or maybe I heard someone say that.

I thought they said it would be there.

Edit: Nevermind ... I read the USA Today article wrong.

For drums, three new cymbals are added to the standard four drum pads, and you are forced to play the correct cymbal at the right time. "It really immerses you more. You feel more like a drummer," Dubrofsky says. "It's not only for expert levels. You can come in on easy and actually play Pro drums. We have all the different levels established. It's actually really fun. You are playing up on the high hat or down on the snare, and it feels more like a kit than ever before."

If it isn't in that USA today article, then everything is baseless speculation. HMX knows drummers want a hi-hat pedal, how appropriate would it be for "pro" mode? It's something that makes too much sense, I would be surprised if it wasn't there, I know they've said they wanted to make it work in the past, or something to that effect.

The scroll speed looks the same on all three to me, I think the 8th notes on the drum chart make it look like they are different speeds if you focus on it.

I could careless for a hi-hat pedal. the main thing is the cymbal charting. I don't think you will get many complaints about a missing hi-hat. Even for "pro" mode.

Only interested in a Hi-hat pedal if they fix old songs. They pretty much charted open Hi-hat on blue for 3 years now, would be confusing as hell with a pedal.

My DLC compatibility predictions:

Harmonies for all some old DLC
Pro mode for drums and guitar
No keyboard support except for a couple of exceptions.

Fixed. Probably.

Man.. it would be dissapointing if pro-mode didn't carry into a decent amount of the old DLC on guitar. It kind of breaks it, I hope we hear a lot more about that in the next week.

Hi hat pedal won't be necessary under one condition: in pro mode the hi hat is ALWAYS on the hi hat, none of the back and forth yellow blue nonsense.

Guitar would take a lot of effort on their part, so I'm being optimistic.

Drums should be fairly standard. Adding support for keyboard seems near impossible given the way the audio files are structured.

That's pretty much what I'm hoping for, although I'd say it's a tad on the optimistic side.

Trying to think of the few keyboard notable exceptions (not just DLC):
Don't Stop Believing (it sold well enough that they should give us this one somehow)
The Final Countdown (hopefully already in the Lego files, and RB3 will pick up on it)
Crocodile Rock (ditto)
Epic (dunno how that will work since it's off RB1)
One of the NIN songs? (can't remember which?)
One of the Boston songs (Smokin?)

Any other big ones?

How could you call it pro mode if there was no Hi-hat pedal, though? That would be a big fail on HMX' side considering they also put that connection thing on RB2 kits.

Foreplay needs keyboard, then for the intermission between the two songs someone will actually be doing something.

I seem to recall some hmxperson saying something like "you'd be surprised how much data is in the newer dlc files" unless I dreamt it. So perhaps they have just hidden the keyboard/pro data so well that the score hero kids couldn't find it, or alternatively maybe they have been planning for this for a while and will release a big patch that will add it to like the last 6 months songs.

Thats what I'm saying you can't call it pro mode without a hi hat pedal! I can see why people would oppose it though, it can be a bitch to get down and without physically feeling it, it could be even tougher.

Baba O'Riley
Panic Attack

I'm also praying to god this makes it in RB3. Absolutely epic.

Maybe if only a handful of old songs will get keyboard parts, they'll just include those tracks on the RB3 disc and you just have to have the old files to enable them with the new parts.
