I gotta say my hype for this game has died down everytime I see the pro guitars in action.

I watched the vid again and he did horribly. I already have a number of nice guitars and don't need another. If I spend $300+ on a piece of shit low-end Fender to play pro mode and it doesn't work right, I'm going to be beyond upset. :(

Get this right hmx... pleeeease.

Edit: The guy never got above a 2X multiplier.

I now agree with Dave (and the other guy who said it) that Pro Mode will be a totally niche, non-driving purchase element for 'normal' consumers. I am very excited about it, however. I know I will never become good enough to play Dio on expert, but I love that the only limitation is my personal time investment. I also trust that HMX will not release something that doesn't work properly. They have really never failed us before; I cannot imagine they would do it now when so much is riding on the success of this game.

I hope their reluctance to give a release date doesn't mean this will be delayed at some point.

I think I'm more pissed that all these e3 interviews are bullshit fluff pieces. Why doesn't anyone ask them real questions instead of following a PR script?

I know if I was in a room with these guys and gals, the following things would be blurted out within seconds of seeing the game:

- What in the fuck is wrong with the calibration?

- Does the realtar require different calibration settings?

- How anal does a player have to be about keeping the realtar tuned?

- If the realtar requires a midi input, does that means it's wired?

- Tell me ten more songs right now.

- How many of the on disc songs have keyboard? Reports have claimed everything from "some" to "most" to "pretty much all". How did that effect your song decisions and is it going to extend into DLC (i.e. are we going to be looking at mostly keyboard heavy songs during the first 1-2 months)?

- Is the vocalist absolutely unable to choose songs in a 5 person band?

- Are any of the old disc songs or recent dlc going to be updated for RB3?

- Are dlc prices going to rise with the inclusion of keyboards and pro modes?

- Have any previously apprehensive artists changed their opinion after seeing the realtar?

- What happened to voxtar?

- Is CAC money global now?

- How do all these drop in/out, on fly difficulty changes, etc. affect achievements?

- Can a gamertag switch instruments easily or do we still have to sign out and back in every time?

Someone get this man a interview with hmx... stat!

These are unusual setups, calibration will not be an issue at home

- Does the realtar require different calibration settings?

No

- How anal does a player have to be about keeping the realtar tuned?

In game, it has no effect, we are purely detecting hand placement and string movement

- If the realtar requires a midi input, does that means it's wired?

Yes

- Tell me ten more songs right now.

If someone joins in mid song, your performance is no longer recorded.

- Can a gamertag switch instruments easily or do we still have to sign out and back in every time?

Baker: The way they skirt questions and refuse to give out more information leads me to believe that this game is not nearly close to being finished and it might be delayed. You would get ushered out of the HMX booth faster than shit if you start questioning off-script. :lol That would actually be an interview I would want to watch, though. :lol

Also, nice (new) avatar (it took you long enough to change it).

Thanks! I want to do that shit JGR does with the rotating pics but I don't know if I need my own web server or not. I mean with 1000's of pictures, you can't expect me to only choose one.

I also agree that the game is going to get delayed after this recent discussion. I wonder if they will delay the whole package or just patch in realtar later. I'm assuming that's where the hold-up lies.

wut? Thousands of underage girl pics, eh? Interesting... *phones authorities*

:lol

If you've watched any of the HMX press stuff from RB1 on, it's always been shit. People miss notes left and right and the calibration is always garbage. If the game does get delayed (which I doubt), it'd only be a couple of weeks. I don't know why they're not giving out a release date now, but HMX absolutely loves to just trickle their info out slowly.

There's no way in fuck the game is getting delayed. Stop being babymen, the game is fine. Calibration issues at E3 aren't a new thing, bros.

Along these lines, I have to admit, I just watched the G4 vid or whatever (Here I go Again by Whitesnake). They looked like they were all on medium and sucked ass at that too using the standard interface.

Will have to wait and see more I suppose.

I don't even want to know how long it would take to calibrate that stuff right with split monitors and different speakers in a big room. I mean, I haven't tried but it sounds like hell :lol

I think I'm gonna buy some strings and picks this weekend and try to get back into playing the real guitar while I'm waiting for RB3.

Did you ever end up doing anything with the beginner stuff I sent you ages ago?
BTW: Always thought it was dick-ish that you never even threw a quick "Thanks".

Calibration is shit at these things. I played GH II on stage at a Gamestop mgrs conference and did horrible due to bad lag. It is nothing new, and I have faith in HMX

Thought that's what DLC was for?

It's E3 time. We have bigger things to bitch and moan about than lowly DLC (that is not going to be backward compatible with RB2....what the fuck is that! This is bullshit....HMX have split the userbase...Fuck 'em. Fuck 'em in their stupid asses).

"Nothing to see here, folks."

They've already said that the band leader chooses the songs. You select one person to be band leader. That way some numbskull doesn't accidentally bring you back to the main menu by clacking the sticks on the drumpad. Pay attention people :P. I don't know why some people miss that part of the interviews.

signavatar.com

You don't necessarily need your own webspace.

Haha thanks. The funny part is your avatar isn't showing up for me now.

Right. But at my house/parties, the vocalist is the band leader. It's not something I'm super worried about because I rarely will ever have 5 people over to play unless family is involved.

+1 for Racer X. I still think they made weak choices when they did the advDLC for Brutal Legend.

I would have killed for The Hall of The Mounting King :(

Fuck yeah!

I would be upset about the band never informing me that they made their decision but I can be just as bad so it wouldn't be fair.

Instead I'll just be upset about the inevitable and ever-present "big guy/little guy" dichotomy that even RBN is enforcing.

I think you have the ability to be one of the "big guys" with a little more time. You're doing good work and your name is around all the time due to you being very active in the RBN community. As a one-person outfit, it'll probably be a little hard to get some of the bigger stuff, but I've got faith in you, bro.

Well that answers this question you posted. That was my point.

lol guitar wankery

I'm the same way. Clapton and SRV is one thing, but that kind of thing bugs me too (like you said). Yngwie and 5 minute guitar solo songs aren't that great to me.

birdman said:
If you were dropping names like Clapton or SRV maybe, but I'm not a technical guitarist kinda guy. Yngwie irritates the shit out of me.

bu.. bu.. thought we were brothers? Gotta stick together :(

Gamespot's going to have another live demo coming up in about 15 minutes. This should be the link to it. It's labeled as "in-depth", so who knows what that will mean. They've got 6 spots that hour, so it can't be terribly detailed, but we'll see some more footage and maybe another little tidbit (but probably nothing new).

I hope we get more than we did a couple days ago.

No it doesn't. They still could add something crazy like voice activated song selection or give one of the instruments a breakaway mini-controller (kinda like the midi thing).

Your question was "can the singer not select any songs?" I guess it was just a misunderstanding of the wording, but that is what you asked.

TechNewsDaily is saying the Fender Pro Real-Tar "might not" (which I'm reading as "probably won't") be ready at launch.

http://www.technewsdaily.com/rock-band-3-debuts-even-more-life-like-guitars-0721/

Now for the bad news: MTV reps said these controllers might not be ready for the release of Rock Band 3 later this year. Understandably, it's a big undertaking to make a real guitar compatible with a music game. Other companies have been working on the same technology for years with similar results.

*might be Lego David Bowie

Well, the one-man-band aspect is a big bottleneck. Even if I can Grohl out and do everything I'm still limited by sheer time, which limits how much output I can have, which limits my ability to be "big". The only other avenue (which I guess is how Ozone does it) is relentless marketing ability, and since I've got the charisma and business acumen of a low-level programmer that ain't really gonna work.
