Rockstar Games Announces 4 New Versions of L.A. Noire coming November 14, 2017

How do they break the game?

Because it was the highly touted feature, and each one represented the culmination of a mission, you were supposed to use everything you learned, all of the items you viewed, all the people you interviewed....and there was no rhyme or reason to any of it. It was largely a guessing game. If you picked the wrong one, IIRC, you'd essentially fail the mission but the game would go on anyway like nothing happened, causing missions to be completely anti-climactic and confusing.

Crazy how on point Vern was with Switch rumors back in the day. Check another one off the list.

I wonder what he's been up to, and what secrets he knows... 🤔

The case files, assuming it's investigating crime scenes, interviews and interrogations would be an absolutely perfect fit for VR gaming. I can't wait to see what it looks like.

which was my whole point

portable will work wonders for some dragged cases where you want to stretch around or use the toilet while your partner drives you around but it won't make roaming empty streets for minutes waiting for a call to chase down a guy any more fun than it is on consoles

if they used half of the effort spent building the world (instead just letting you pick destinations, adventure game style) into the interrogation sequences game could be so much better than it is

I don't think either of us (myself or the user you initially replied to) were implying that this making the jump to a portable system will actually improve the core gameplay. It's just that shorter play sessions can definitely make flaws like those you mentioned more bearable.

But yes, being on a portable console will not fix those problems.

It's not some huge mystery why this game is being chosen to be ported. Games like Manhunt or Bully (due to being PS2 era games) or RDR (due to the rumors of the code being a total mess) would require significantly more work and resources to "remaster". LA Noire is essentially a port. It's easy money. It's apples and oranges.

I hope that isn't what they're doing. Rockstar should be publishing a brand new game; an exclusive designed for the Switch. Besides, the last thing I want is a multiplatform game for the weakest current platform.

I finished the game on 360 and transferred my save to PC when it released. It gave me a reason to complete side missions.

Huh?

Rockstar has yet to release any new games this Gen Xbox one, PS4 or anything and you expect them to be making an exclusive for Switch lol

How do they break the game?

The prompts on the screen do not correspond to how your character behaves, or how the other characters reply.

They were labelled
"Truth"
"Doubt"
"Lie"

Lie accused the person you were interrogating of committing the crime, even when you knew they didn't commit the crime, you just knew they were lying about that instance. Cole would freak the fuck out on them and you'd potentially lose them as a witness.

Here's a great example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rNV61Rpo-0

JUST WATCH THIS

Then Cole flips his notebook... "Looks like I made a mistake." You know the guy is lying about being asleep, but if you choose "Lie" then your guy totally flips the fuck out and accuses him and goes insane, and then it makes you loose the case. There was a blog post once about how the original choices in the game were different, like, "Sooth," "Convince," and "Accuse," or something, but then Rockstar inexplicably change them late in the development, but never changed Cole's reactions.

Beyond that is just the simple mechanics. It would tell you to "Watch someones mannerisms" or something, but the mannerisms were so bizarre. Some of them would be plainly obvious and you'd want to choose "Lie" because the guy was obviously lying, but then the game would freak out and punish you. I remember this fluff hype article about the game about how the facial animations were so good that some class was using them to help kids with Autism understand people's emotions or something, but, I felt so bad for those kids because the facial animations make no sense in an overwhelming amount of circumstances in the game.

Huh, a Rockstar game on the Switch? Interesting.
Gimme the sequel to the best GTA game ever: Chinatown Wars 2!

Oh, LA Noire? Yeah, sure, why not. I think I still have my 360 copy somewhere.

Yep...

GTA Online has made them become really complacent. They don't NEED to make new games if they have the whales buying shark cards.

The game explains several times that you can't use "Lie" unless you have evidence to prove the statement is false. If you know they're lying but can't provide proof, you use "Doubt". I don't understand why this concept was so lost on so many people.

L.A. Noire was such a mixed bag for me. A bunch of things I really liked, a bunch of things that really sucked. Ultimately I'm glad I played through the game back in the day, but I have noooooooo desire to ever play it again. Also, fuck Cole Phelps.

Cool that the Switch seems to be getting a pretty interesting version of the game, though. L.A. Noire is such an un-Nintendo sort of game that it's great to see it on the platform.

I think that was the point. You used your intuition and that means you won't always be right. I like how if you don't know what you're doing you can arrest the wrong person and you won't really solve the case. Because that shit happens all the time in real life. Also loved noticing subtle tales in the animations. IDK, I didn't really struggle at all with the game But I get why people do.

The main problem with the interrogation system is how they changed the original Coax, Force and Lie into Truth, Doubt, and Lie.

Plus later on:
You learn that none of the suspects were the perps, everyone was let go and the game give Cole a big FU. Then kills him. All over a realestate scheme that would make Scooby Doo role his eyes
I love the world, the setting was great, the attention to detail was beyond real, but the actual story was terrible.

I'm so confused by this choice, the only scenario I can see in my head it this one.

R* Employee: Boss, with these new idea of getting an older games on all platform I first though of Red Dead Redemption. Not only was it a critical and financial success, but people have been asking for it since years. It would also be a great first step to do on Nintendo's new console. Not only this, but it would also be perfectly placed with the sequel coming next year!

Boss: No, that sounds too easy, we're making too much money here lad.

R* Employee: Are you suggesting that we should publish something people more or less want because we're making too much money, sir?

Boss: Exactly?

R* Employee: But...why? (.gif)

Boss: Video Game business management is hard work, mate, you wouldn't understand. Now bring me our games catalogs. I want to put our lowest rated and most under appreciated game from last gen back to the table.

R* Employee: Sir, that would be LA Noire, this would be a horrible choice. Especially with the Nintendo folks who are asking for anything GTA since years, even RDR could be some kind of placebo...but LA Noire?!

Boss: I don't care about anyone, if the game fails on that platform, it's on them, we'll just pull the plug! Now start the printers and let's get LA Noire on the shelves!

I love this game so I’m excited. Though people are a little off in calling it a Rockstar game or saying this means they are getting close to GTAV Switch. Different engines and different developers made these games.

Never played it so i'm in for the Switch game. Portability is too good to pass up as a student with limited time to sit down on a PS4.

I never thought we'd add Rockstar to the third party developer list for the Nintendo Switch. I just got my email from the Rockstar Propaganda regarding this. It's really happening.

I played L.A. Noire so long ago I don't even remember most of it. I do remember enjoying it for the most part but it dragged out way too long for me.

I finish almost every game I start, but I just couldn't keep going in LA Noire. The game becomes a complete chore to play after a while. Nice gift to the fans, but this rerelease isn't for me

Does this have open world gameplay like GTA, Bully, RDR?

It doesn't really look interesting to me but if I can run around and kick up dust on my Switch I might get it.

So are they going to change the interview responses back to the original prompts? I'd like to avoid calling a lady a filthy whore and threaten to drag her downtown when all I really wanted to do was call her bluff.

It's an open world with nothing to do. Didn't really need to be open world tbh. I remember having the same issues with The Getaway back in the day. They built this huge open space and largely it was just used as a glorified way to get you from one set piece to another. Not surprised Getaway and LA Noire come from some of the same creative minds.

Cool! Never did play this. I wouldn't mind remasters of all the PS2 era GTA games as well so that my choices aren't just PS2/3 or mobile. :)

Agree, I thought Noire was terrible, the interrogations are very flawed and impossible to screw up.open world was a waste of time.

There is nothing wrong with the prompts as they are. The overreactions are a punishment for not thinking things through.

I'll probably buy on Switch. Been a long time since I played this.

Also it proves to Rockstar that the Switch is worth supporting. Give us GTA, Red Dead, Midnight Club, and Max Payne.

They've been on almost every Nintendo platform since the N64.

I mean, some of those releases haven't been GTA. But still. :V

The PS4/X1 version is being done internally by a small team. The Switch version is being outsourced (since it's more a straight port than graphical enhancement). Not sure about the Vive version but I can imagine that's in-house as well.]

I'm pretty happy that the Switch version is based on the PC version and not 360/PS3 versions.

Huh, is the Vive VR mention a lowkey confirmation that the PC version is getting new textures and a performance boost? Or is the VR stuff going to be its own separate SKU?

Will the over-worked and burned out developers who got exploited and abused by Rockstar and McNamara profit from this re-release?

It is a separate game, which features seven of the cases from the original rebuilt for VR.
