 なお、リマスター版『ロマサガ2』は好評を博し、PS Vita版のダウンロード数は20万本を超えたとのこと。眞島氏は、さまざまなハードで『ロマサガ2』を待っていた人がいたんだ、と再確認したという。

To put this into comparison, here are the Japanese and global Google Play download brackets:

Romancing SaGa 3 is currently in development for PS Vita, iOS and Android.

Kawazu and the team are still working on bringing Romancing SaGa 2 to the west on PS Vita.

Sounds like they're considering porting it further to other platforms too. Could we be seeing a Romancing SaGa collection on PS4 and Switch some day?

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

Seems likely so that we could see Romancing SaGa collection for PS4 and Switch someday.

Doesn't it run on Unity ? Well, it's SE after all, they can be bothered to remake the game supporting various inputs, widescreen and such, yet not do shit with that. See Dragon Quest.

Aren't digital 200k sales pretty big in Japan for a VITA title?

I think that when RS2 came out they also commented that they were thinking about putting the game out in more platforms other than VITA. I might be mistaking this with Scarlet Grace, though.

Great result! And yeah, I can see it get ported to PS4/Switch in the future, especially for the West.

Can we get FFV and FFVI ported to Vita too Square Enix pretty please??

Yes, the reason they even mentioned how many copies it sold is because they were giving a talk at Unite 2017 Tokyo yesterday. There was also a talk by the UI programmer of Scarlet Grace before that, but I don't think any site has covered that talk yet and the slides aren't up on the Unite 2017 site yet either.

Outside of Romancing SaGa 2, I'm really amazed how could a company bother going that extensive into porting a legacy game on a multiplatform engine and not use that to push it on every platforms. Case in point: FF IX.

Releasing these on PS4 would be amazing. I will certainly by the Android version of RS3 (I have RS2 on the phone as well) but my preferred platform would be the PS4. I hope the success is enough for them to expand.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Porting the stuff to multiple system is their overall goal as stated multiple times... They are just very slow and move at their own pace.
It would sell a bazillion copies on PS4 and steam. Missed opportunity :(

Maybe switch will save it.
Save it from what? It already sold well on Vita. Doesn't mean a console version down the line can't happen though.

I think the Dragon Quest mobile re-releases are the most egregious examples. As the article demos, a bunch of them were also done in Unity. They should've been prime fodder to reintroduce the brand in the west and back to PlayStation in Japan.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Wish they also remade Live-a-Live and Treasure of Rudras.

Why though...? That seems like it's about an order of magnitude greater than any other digital game on Vita besides Minecraft. Why is this game selling so much better than everything else? Shit, physical games don't even sell nearly that well on Vita these days.

They are, but I took FFIX as an exemple for two reasons:
1. It's more popular in West
2. FFIX supports widescreen and controller support, unlike DQ games which are portrait and touchscreen only, which would require some slight rework.

Basically, DQ IV, V, VI, VII and VIII are all on Unity. Yet, here we are.
Heck, I could also argue FFIII, IV, V, VI and IX are all on Unity.

Hope this doesn't turn into a case where they have to put out a clarification that the number is wrong, and that either Famitsu misreported or Shintaro Majima was mistaken when he mentioned it.

Who knows, maybe we underestimated the Vita market. :p

They are slow that's a fact, not saying that they don't have their reasons why the adaptations take longer.

Unless you think bringing the games to Steam or porting the FF7/9 PC versions to PS4 should have taken that long. There are many examples of them moving at their own slow pace.

Or the SaGa market!

Scarlet Grace should have sold millions by then. :(

Actually, it seems like were underestimating how "big" the SaGa market is. I think it used to sell a million (or under) in JP before.

FF9 isn't on PS4 though. FF7 took this long because it was a new port of a 1997 PC game. It wasn't on a multiplatform engine or whatsoever.

What are you talking about? He can't be wrong. I mean, Scarlet Grace is still on its way to 1 million, right?

Only this company would ignore the Vita for years and yet somehow successfully revive SaGa while it's on its deathbed.

I remember Kagari saying a number of years ago that Square had some big stuff coming for Vita. And she was right - DQB; DQH; WoFF; two SaGa games etc.

But pretty much all of it came in 2016, lol, after they'd effectively released nothing aside from FFX HD prior to that.

Bizarre.

FF9 still isn't on PS4... that's the point - it has been out PC and mobile for a while and it's still not on PS4, even though they could have it running on it in a single week.

Same story with FF7 - obviously it was based on the newer PC version and not the Eidos port from 98. It wasnt new though.. The game had already been for a while on PC - they didn't have to reinvent the wheel... The PS4 is pretty much a PC.

It was based on the iOS version iirc. In any case, something new was done from the PC version and it wasn't on a new engine. In the case of FFIX, the work's already done.

It took Silicon Studio Thailand an additional 2 months after releasing it on mobile, to release it on PC. There were technical challenges. So clearly it's not a case of just the work being done when it runs on one platform.

Right, but to which extent ? Do we know how many people were involved ? Even then, that was a year ago already.

The point is that the additional resources are not free. Just because an engine supports multiple platforms doesn't mean you flip a switch and it runs on everything. Technical challenges cost money and a publisher has to be willing to invest in that.

Atlus USA won't even patch SMTIV:A on 3DS to fix a text bug on the final boss, simply because they feel it is not worth the cost. Everything has a price.

Right, but we're talking about one of their best FF title thought. To me, it's more about unwillingness than cost related measure.

well there is seiken densetsu collection on switch so why not... hopefully theyll include final fantasy legend then

It's worth noting that Romancing Saga 1-3 are really attractive legacy game among Japanese hardcore RPG fans, so if this is true then I'm not surprised.

Now that's a quiet hit, it's been constantly charting on the JPSN charts and it has crossed numbers few or even no other DD-only title has ever crossed in Japan on the Vita (Minecraft has a retail release).
