Don't really know much about her.

Also I'm still dumbfounding that Cameron would give what seemed to be a love project to fucking Rodriguez... Like you couldn't find someone with a better track record?

Saw her only in the Maze Runner sequel. Was a dull, underdeveloped sort of film so I doubt it was the ideal example of the height of her talents, but she seemed reasonably charming, compared to the rest of the cast.

While it started as a passion project, he seemed to completely lose interest after Avatar blew up

Planet Terror was alright (though that was right after Sin City so the point remains)

Ok, I liked Planet Terror.

Weird ass choice but this could be cool if Cameron is really involved in the producer role on this rather than just the paid seal of approval like the shit terminator movies

Rodriguez and Cameron working closely could make for an awesome movie playing to the genres strengths rather than just Robert alone which would be....yeah

I'm curious if this choice or that there were no asian americans even given a chance to try out is going to get any backlash. Asian Americans are in a tough quandary with this one.

She actually kind of has the face for the part. Just needs the hair and clothes. Looks comparable to Gally's age in the manga series too. Hell, she even seems similarly sized.

Politics aside she's a good pick.

Im sure it will be at least $150M

Rodriguez has a reputation for coming in under budget and ahead of schedule. He's an extraordinarily efficient director. $150m would be nearly 4x bigger than Rodriguez's highest budget movie ever. He'd just get confused and ask what all the money was for. Then he'd spend half of it to make a movie that looks the full amount. A month early.

Wait what since when did RR come on board

Should have been an Asian actress.

Without wanting to get into the whole under representation of Asian actors in Hollywood debate, Battle Angel isn't exactly in the same boat as Ghost in the Shell regarding the source material.

Alita isn't Japanese, and most of the story in the original manga is set in post-apocalyptic North America.

With that being said the casting for this movie should be interesting, It's been awhile since I read it, but going from memory, there is nothing that ties any of the main characters to being locked into any ethnicity.

Alita isn't Japanese
She might be (she used to have a Japanese name, at least). We really don't know.
