I remember hearing once that Once Upon A Time on ABC had been originally pitched as a Fables adaptation before they decided on a way-more family-friendly turn so we got OUAT.

Of course. Once Upon a Time takes so much from Fables it couldn't have been anything else. Not that I'm knocking OUAT. You can't exactly be mad at a show stealing from a book that steals from fairy tales and Disney tropes. I love Fables so much that I've been looking for a reprint of the number 1 issue for years to mount on my wall in my nerd room, but it's equally guilty of borrowing from other sources as OUAT.

You mean the two Snow Whites? Coincidence. Being heavily into fairy tales as a kid, the key differences other than Snow White(of the Seven Dwarfs) being born of royalty and Snow White(from Snow White and Rose Red) being somewhat poor, is that the Snow White that was the sister to Rose Red was named so because of her fair hair(she was blond). This is also why Rose Red was named so(she was a redhead). The Snow White of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" was named so because her skin was white as snow, though her hair was black as ebony.

In the original german version the names are actually different. The classic Snow white is called Schneewitchen which doesn't directly translate to snow white, don't know how you would translate it. The other fairy tale is called Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot, which pretty much directly translates to snow white and rose red.

Yeah, OUAT is actually a genuinely good show for the first two seasons. It builds up the characters quite well with their own turns on twists. The twist with who the Big Bad Wolf actually is was great and a highlight of the first season. Personally for me, the show becomes pretty terrible after that with choppy writing, making really scummy characters good guys with no build-up at all, basically tossing in random characters and everyone, literally everyone being related either to the Evil Queen or Rumpelstiltskin.

Fables sort of outlived its shelf life too. At least it got to end properly, unlike oh, I dunno, anything Kirkman has ever done.

So they're just mashing togwether two unrelated fairy tales because they both feature a similarly named character? Why stop there? Why not also include the three little pigs because that fairy tale also features a wolf.
