RPGamer: "Drakengard 2 = occasionally overdramatic, but good"

RPGamer Review

You may or may not have noticed that this game is very dramatic, and in some cases, overdramatic. This is emphasized through a decent voice cast, enthralling music composition, high quality CG cutscenes, and a story that will keep you coming back. More on all of that in a bit, as now you'll take a look into the battle system that makes this game unique.

Ok, yes, this game takes quite a few different game styles and mixes them all into one formula. Original? Maybe not. This game does take each of these styles and uniquely mixes them, something most other developers haven't really been successful with. One thing that players will notice in this game is that the game play really hasn't changed from the original title. The same three-tier battle system of ground, mid-air, and high-air is still the core of the game. Some little changes have been made that will make players a little happier, though.

Nope, I was gonna say something sooner but then I remembered when my ma told me if I don't have anything nice to say, something something.

My impressions from the demo were:

1) Terrible graphics

2) Good cg with no context

3) boring as hell to play

hey guys what's your favorite RPGamer review

mine is Thousand Arms!

Being skeptical that the first dating RPG, I made the assumption the female characters would be extra cautious, making sure not to be too daring, or possibly even the complete lack of innuendo.

...

The battles are very unique, as they are a one on one, with support from the other characters and monsters on each side. The only problems are that it's not completely believable, since monsters wouldn't normally follow such a structure, but they do. The fact that the supporting cast may not cast spells on any one except the two main characters, with a few exceptions.

...

In fact, sometimes it isn't perfectly clear what comes next, making the player talk with town people to get a hint, and sometimes go out and simply look around for what's next. While the story is linear, the feel of it is not as structured as most RPGs now days.

...

The lack of analog control is another downside, but all these would be alright, if only the camera angle would stay put, or manually controlled.

...

As we mention the music CD as one of Thousand Arms' extra goodies, one must mention that Atlus has gone all out with the goods. First came the 3'x2' poster with your pre-order from special outlets, and the demo disc at the same time. Then, once Thousand Arms was released with memory card stickers, a holographic card, a full color instruction book filled with colorful art, and the game itself. Atlus also decided to make their SoundTrack and MultiMedia CD availible for free, and a modest $2 shipping. A huge deal for the same price as any other game on the market.

...

I invite everyone to join Meis in trying to win the hearts all of girls he can find, which is no easy task. When there is more than one on the screen at once can be a real handful. Meet many alive characters with indepth background, explore beautiful areas to inticing music, and battle many different monsters with a wide arrange of attacks, and sometimes even a hint of personaility. Oh, and don't forget to save the world.

Best. Review. Ever.

Shit. If retranslating FFIV means passing one of those up, they should have retranslated FFIV five times.

Well, we never got FM2 or FMA...and Final Fantasy IV has been retranslated twice.

Coincidence? YOU BE THE JUDGE.

*edit* Sorry this was OT.

Here is my review.

Drakengard 2 is better than Drakengard 1, in that Drakengard 1 was horse shit. Drakengard 2 is also horse shit, but in a slightly smaller pile with not as many flies.

Not to derail, but my friends and I really had a good time with FMA. Wish that had gotten a translation. A PC version of that game would rule.

Drakengard II is a marginal improvement over the first game. If you played the first game, you know thats not saying much. I'm speaking directly about actual gameplay, which is little more than repeated taps of the X button. I can deal with that if the story is worth digesting. Its like Dynasty Warriors lite.

The storytelling for Drake II is mired by the horrible dialogue reading. It is as if the actors are speaking in slow mo. The what they're saying is pretty bland on its own. Having to endure the pace at which they speak only heightens the discomfort. It just doesn't sound natural. Then again maybe thats how they speak in Britian.
The only remotely interesting new character is the Legna until Urik shows up and seemily lights a fire under everyone. The only motivation driving me to play through is the desire to see
Caim from the first game show up and whip ass
. Apparently this game ties up the loose ends from the first. I wouldn't know because I'm roughtly 50% in.
