I played Prototype back in the day but for some reason I stopped (can’t remember why).

Anyway, I got it working on the Steam Deck and forgot how awesome it is. Sure, it may not look the best anymore but the gameplay is just pure fun. The amount of people and cars on the streets is insane and your over-the-top powers just feel great. There’s nothing like absorbing an old lady and then throwing a car at a helicopter, lol

The narration is also a huge bonus. It pushes the story along nicely and the cutscenes are great.

I feel Prototype has elements that today’s games just don’t have. A focus on gameplay and that it’s a video game and not meant to be serious

I never played the 2nd one but it’s my next to play, once I’ve finished the first.

Oh, in case anyone was interested, it runs flawlessly on the deck (through Proton).

I played a bunch of Prototype 2 a few months ago, and it was kind of a pain in the ass to get running. But this genre of over the top power fantasy really died for some reason. The way you can absorb people was so fuckin cool. It’s easy to forget Activision was actually good at one point and made a huge variety of games.

I played it on the PC at the time and it was a piece of crap.
Performance was awful. One of the worst PC ports of the era.
I gave up on it after a couple of hours.
At the time there were no Steam refunds, so screw anyone that bought this crap.

Runs flawlessly on my Steam Deck now.

For prototype 2 there is a mod that fixes nearly everything

Prototype2Fix - CrashFix - FPSFix - FrameDouble fix

ASI plugin to solve some of the issues with running the game on modern machines, fixes thread/core count crashing, HID device issues, and can optionally reduce framedoubling above 60FPS.
