sigh... RTTP: Resident Evil 6

I occasionally replay this game.
it might be unpopular opinion, i had fun from it.
as I never consider it as true horror, just like house of the dead, silly horror, and because of it, I can enjoy it easily.
Hmm, I got to replay this game once again this year.

Listen, you can complain about everything but crying about melee moves is a cardinal sin. Game need more melee finishers, more suplexes, more powerbombs!

That said, RE6 had some amazing moments but it was clearly a clusterfuck of ideas thrown together. Do want want full shootbang action (chris), do we want survival horror (leon) or do we want to try something new (jake). Let's just try all three, quantity over quality, and create a messy unfocused game.

It's very surprising because RE4 was kinda an experiment as well and very succesful, RE5 built on RE4 but just added coop. Wtf happened to RE6, did the entire re4/5 team leave or something.

No, it's not. It's fucking NOT!

Can we drop the whole "it's better than some of the terrible low-budget spin-offs", as that's the lowest possible bar for a game of this magnitude?

RE6 is the only RE I never finished.

It truly is the game that almost ruined the franchise forever.
Same here. One of if not my favorite series but this game is just awful and unpolished.

Capcom was just laying some duds at the end of that gen. Glad they turned it around and restored their reputation.

I find RE6 replays more enjoyable than RE7 or 8 replays, but I liked the initial play through a lot more with 7 and 8. It's weird how things age. 7 is nigh replayable and 8 runs out of gas.

Same. I understand the praise about the deep combat, but the actions themselves do not flow together and the animations/animation transitions are stiff.

I would have forgiven all of the issues with it's story if it had controlled like Vanquish or MGSV.

Personally, I loved the game.
I enjoyed the campy action and how its very self-aware.
It took re4's gameplay to 11 and just went ham.
I completed this game many many times.

Absolutely loved the game. Finished it twice in co-op. Second time with my son. I wish they'd do another one of these. Is it a good Resident Evil game? Probably not. Neither was 5. Is it highly entertaining co-op fun. Hell yess!

It took me while to get into these games. Tried a couple of times, but I only became a fan when the remakes started appearing. Then I decided, like you, to go through all of them. I almost lost all my excitement after this.

My non gamer younger daughter decided this was the game she wanted to play in co-op with me back then when it released.

I didn't like the game at all. We never went beyond Leon's campaign.

To date me and her haven't played any videogame together.

Thanks RE6.

I only played Leon's campaign via Game Pass.
I… actually had fun with it. Everything is so over-the-top and the campaign was short enough to not outstay its welcome.
But. I still don't know how you're supposed to have enough ammo for each setpiece. I remember an early section with a zombie siege outside some bar or something, and then you'd have to escape out of the window and get a bus. But there was this big fat zombie holding the bus. The whole scene was like, I have a bit of ammo, I run out, I resort to melee for minutes before some more ammo drops. It took me an eternity to get past that section.

The entire game feels more about melee combat than, you know, using actual guns.

If you don't use melee finishers or even full-on kung-fu on every enemy, you're bound to constantly run out of ammo. Peak survival horror game design, eh?

That's funny OP gaslighted himself into thinking the game was good.
I heard it was bad, so didn't get it at launch. I did get a chance to play it (a co-worker loaned it to me) about a year after release, and holy hell is that one ugly, stupid, poorly playing game. I have beat every mainline RE game. 1, 2, 3, Code Veronica, Zero, 4, 5, 7, 8, 1 remake, 2 remake, 3 remake, 4 remake.
I don't think I played more then 2 hours of 6. It was making me hate Resident Evil. I believe I started as Leon and was like "this is garbage" and switched to Weskers son? and it was even worse.

RE6 has the best game play of all the RE games. So many movement and attack options in comparison to the others.

I distinctly remember playing coop with a friend on Leon and Helena's campaign and getting to the intersection with Jake and Sherry and 2 random people helped us take on Ustanak, all of us joined together with voice chat and communicating to take him down. It was so badass. I think it happened again with another boss too, was it Simmons? I can't remember.

BUT THE KICKER IS IT ALL HAPPENED ORGANICALLY.

My GOD, in addition to the ridiculously awesome coop, the unexpected Intersections were so fucking amazing.

RE6 is peak Resident Evil, I don't think it can ever be topped.

OP I get some of your critiques about the game. It's for sure an atypical and disjointed game.

But this game has peak action gameplay. Once you master the movement and its mechanics it's really fun. Enjoy it for what it is instead for what you want it to be.
Its a fucking RESIDENT EVIL game, there is no " what you want It to be" It should be a fucking RE game, some of you guys always find excuses for this kind of shit, this should never had been a numbered RE game.

Nay, its a Biohazard game!

And in this Biohazard game my dear friend, the stakes are higher than EVER before.

If our heroic and courageous protagonists, Leon Scott Kennedy, Helena Harper, Chris Redfield, Piers Nivans, Jake Muller, Sherry Birkin, and Ada Wong are not successful, the entire world and all of humanity are doomed at the hands of Umbrella's ultimate global bioterrorist threat!

Complete. Global. Saturation.

Doesn't matter, a game is a game and I enjoy it for what it is than force my expectations onto it.

Also, by your reasoning, Resident Evil should still have fixed camera and tank controls (which I would love btw).

We would never have gotten Resident Evil 4 in that case. Resident Evil 4 should never had been a numbered RE game, right? Doesn't fit the mold of the previous titles.

An abomination of a game. Disregard RE brand, this thing just sucks as a videogame.
Playing it back at release, I was shocked after RE4 and 5, its like all the good devs left and outsourced it to India.
After a couple of hours I was out. In co-op its more tolerable , I'll give it that.

It's a highly technical action game. Once you get the hang of it, you're really only using guns for hitting weak points only, doing counters, or hitting them at specific times when they are uniquely open. Every enemy has multiple behaviors you can memorize and exploit. Melee and guns are completely intertwined at all points. You are only doing more traditional shooting with shotgun or explosives as a last resort when overwhelmed. The game has a much larger move list than people think. There's only a handful of TPS that are this technical and inventive, like Vanquish and Wanted: Dead.

To be fair, Resident Evil has had massive changes all through the series, good and bad. There are no hard rules about what RE 'should' be. The action stuff in 6 isn't necessarily bad, it's just implemented in a very annoying way and the enemies don't really play along.

Big deal. It's ~25 hours of your life to see it all. If you're a fan of the franchise at all, it's worth seeing how bad it gets.

And then play Revelations 2 after and be absolutely thrilled!

This is just the internet doing it's standard revisionist bullshit. With enough time, what's bad eventually becomes good.

Much like how the Dreamcast, a bad console and a colossal financial failure, somehow got rehabilitated into the best thing ever.

About 2 years ago I went through pretty much the entire RE series on PC( grabbed the Humble Bundle Decades of horror promo for like $30), 6 is the only game I couldn't bring myself to finish. Maybe I'll try again at some point...

"Judge it for what it is, not what you want it to be" is such a sad cop-out and discussion-killer. Totally meaningless platitude, its sole purpose to dismiss criticism without the burden of coming up with an actual argument. It's lame that because people have seen it said 10,000 times on forums they think it's a good point and they want to chime in with it, too. So you end up "discussing" art with people whose idea of discourse is repeating catchphrases. Pointless

Arguments have been provided in this thread, you just can't be bothered to read (and understand what's written, which is the important part) opinions that are different from yours.

Nothing about it is pointless or a cop-out. It's pretty simple.
  • I can play a game and evaluate what is in front of me. In reality. I can try and determine if I think it's well made, has good level design, deep combat, replay value, responsive controls. That is judging a game for what it is.
  • Or I can ignore all of that and trash the game for not being a made up game in my head that doesn't exist. It's just spoiled brats that are entitled and obsessed with the name on the box, and little else. Low intellect people, low creativity, conservative mindset wanting the same thing over and over in a predictable fashion without being challenged and throwing a temper tantrum if they aren't served the same thing for the 10th time.
There is no argument for the later. It's literally just a meltdown, amplified by the internet and snowballing into a large meltdown because most people are stupid, uncreative and prefer to play the same thing without being challenged. Doesn't mean they're right just because there's more of them and they have nothing better to do but complain endlessly. It ignores every aspect of the game except the name on the box. How could anyone with a brain actually not judge a product for what it is? You're judging a fantasy that doesn't exist. It's crying like a baby that wants their bottle because you wanted the old RE instead of judging the grown up food your parents put on the plate in front of your face. It's literally just review bombing because you didn't get what you want.

Sure but you're still better off playing Nier Automata or Ninja Gaiden.

Am generally not a fan of RE games but do like 6 so it's fair to say it's not like the others. Just finished Doom the Dark Ages and a part of me that kept thinking "This isn't doom. It doesn't feel like doom." But another part was saying "I like this. It's fun!" Both are true but you have to mentally accept the first part to enjoy it. RE6 if flawed and you do have to accept some jank but it's unique and fun if you can get past it.

FYI: It runs great on Switch 2.
