Do you remember how badly Skyrim ran on last gen?
I was ready to be all negative about this, but this is a good point.
Just because PC owners have played a decent version of Skyrim, doesn't mean there won't be tangible benefits for non-PC owners.

If they add mod support its super easy to get a very polished version of that
Realistic Needs + Diseases, Frostfall and a few others and you're good

I would do anything for a Morrowind remake. The game was extraordinary.Should have been morrowind!

skyrim was fine on 360
By updating to a newer version of the engine, mods on the new version can look better than those on the old.

By the way, Eurogamer just confirmed this is happening.
Where? Can't find it on their site.
I know there are mods for everything. I'm just trying to think of what Bethesda would add to the game that makes sense, since they did this before with Fallout. I guess it's possible that mod support basically excuses them from having to add anything meaningful to the game. It could be a truly bare bones release.
That would take FAR more money and resources that would be better spent on the new ES game. A Skyrim remaster is a relatively quick cash-in that doesn't take a ton of resources to pull off.
Them daedric artifacts sure are a blast aren't they!Guh, right after wasting a chunk of my life wrapping up the Platinum trophy.
As for the PC version (if there is even one)? Considering skyrim is still one of the most played games on steam this would just an awkward release to me. Especially since this likely won't entice any pc user to upgrade on visual upgrades at all and Bethesda net integration is whatever since we have the steam workshop and the nexus mod manager, which is a wasted opportunity since the PC skyrim community is huge and still playing the game!
I would love, love a proper updated version of Morrowind on a better engine / graphics (without dumbing down things). I really love the magic system there and even like the combat (yes, even with RNG).If the rumors of a Prey sequel are true then I respectfully disagree. They're already going to be wasting a ton of money/resources, why not do it on Morrowind
Remasters don't stop development of new games, so yay for remasters and new games!
Please let this be real.
But please, for the love of all that is holy, PLEASE don't be another 20 fps slide show like the PS3 version.
Technically true but skyrim is probably bethesda's most ridiculously well optimized game, it ran near maxed a few months after release with an early enb some texture and lighting mods at 30fps on my laptop from 2009. The specs of that laptop were like an ancient i5, 4 gigs of ram and a 1 gig of vram integrated chip.
You don't need a hardcore rig to get an HD treatment out of skyrim.
The cynic in me suspects that the HD skyrim is just gonna be steady 30 fps with the 4k texture pack, some lighting improvements, some post processing improvements running at 1080p and hopefully bethesda net integration for consoles with maybe a few UI improvements. That would be something that definitely puts the game on the map for console users who have enjoyed mods on fallout 4.

Out of the box? Doubtful; they'd need to do serious work on upgrading all the textures in the game to do that and redo the lighting system from the ground up and I don't see them putting that much work into this. I would wager this is just a cash-in to gain access to the mod scene for console users. Maybe include the "high-res" textures Bethesda created after the game shipped back in 2012.My real question is whether or not it will look better than the PC version with the mods my Alienware Alpha can run.

I would say even that would be a stretch. If it comes with the free high-res texture DLC included, it will look like this:Yep. I certainly don't expect it to look any better than vanilla Fallout 4. But as long as I can use mods I'll be happy.

And run at a solid 60FPS. Vanilla Skyrim ran 60FPS for me with the high-res textures on a GTX 440. A PS4/XB1 should have no problem with it.
Pretty underwhelmed by this news. As people have said I'd have preferred either an updated Morrowind or something new.
Morrowind would be better
With extensive modding, you could get a Skyrim that looks better than any remaster though...
What's the point?
A PlayStation 4 and Xbox One remaster of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is rumoured to be announced at Bethesda's E3 conference this Sunday, 12th June. We'll be reporting from it live; check our E3 2016 guide for conference timings.
Eurogamer understands this rumour to be true, and we've also heard Bethesda will announce The Evil Within 2, Wolfenstein 2 and re-announce Prey 2 during the conference.

Any chance we see improvement in combat?
