[RUMOR] Marvel vs Capcom Infinite roster leaked

To be honest

Umvc3 had 50 characters but I'd say only half of it was tournament viable.

UMvC3's top 8 for Marvel is consistently diverse, year after year. A huge portion of the roster is viable. I would say closer to 75%.

More importantly, roster size has nothing to do with competitive viability. If Capcom made Street Fighter VI: Ken vs. Ryu, one would end up top tier and the other mid.

Yeah I'd much prefer a game with just Marvel characters.
With a full story mode and extra gubbins like Injustice.

The Capcom part is just kinda lame.

Really too bad Mahvel is so petty with the movie licenses they sold off. Because they is literally nothing stopping them from allowing X-Men and F4 characters.

Right. Marvel needs its own Injustice. Meaty story mode and single player content created by people who actually know and enjoy the source material. There's no reason why, after the success Marvel has had, we're getting a console fighter where Black Widow, Black Panther, Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch, or Loki are omitted, but Arthur, Firebrand, and SPENCER are present and accounted brand.

Fuck the Capcom "brand". I want a real Marvel fighter. Someone release us from this "vs. Capcom" mediocrity.

I used to say the only company that can do justice to the Marvel IP is Capcom. Don't know what to say after this anymore.

Should have just been a Marvel game. I seriously doubt people care about the Capcom side/brand. Hardcore fans would still play the Marvel only game so Capcom wouldnt have alienated anyone with a Marvel only game.

I love the Versus games, but I've been wanting a sequel to Marvel Super Heroes for years now. It allows more, and hopefully, varied characters to be in a game with different move sets. Then when the next MvC comes out, they can pull more characters that are already done.

On the Marvel side, I think they are banking heavily on people recognizing the characters from the movies and keeping the esoteric characters to DLC.

Yeah. The Marvel side makes sense, especially since this was developed when Marvel was still going hard at excluding anything they didn't have movie rights to. It still feels "boring" though even though there are a bunch of characters we've never had in a fighting game before just because of how on the nose it is for movie representation. At least throw in Black Panther instead of Nova or Wasp instead of Ant-Man. But this will probably get the attention of all the MCU fans so I don't blame them at all.

The Capcom side is a head scratcher though. Nemesis instead of Wesker, Arthur AND Firebrand, no Phoenix Wright or Frank West (although there is a missing character I suppose). Either Capcom is planning on having more popular characters as DLC, or they just decided it didn't matter what Capcom fighters were in it - everyone was going to buy the game for Marvel anyway.

Yup. This was their chance to do that. With a refresh on the Infinity gem concept it really is just like MSH 2, but now with the roster watered down with Capcom characters, and not a big enough roster to avoid complaints. MSH was about the Infinity stones, but this uses that idea up.

Marvel doesn't need the vs. Capcom part. but I guess they need Capcom to make the game. However, I almost wish they took their ball and went elsewhere.

Just want to point out - Nemesis instead of Wesker; Resi 2 Remake

Nemesis is from Resi 3. It'd be Mr. X if they wanted to promote the remake (or Leon obv.)

Realistically, they probably chose Nemesis because there's not exactly a ton of grapplers in the roster and they wanted more moveset diversity than Wesker would've provided.

Your GODDAMN right.

Yeah my casual friends are basically going "why wasn't this just a marvel game"

Well people say this for every game so it isn't anything new. It sucks that even the Capcom and FGC fans don't care that much for the roster though so that hurts. Capcom is never gonna do stuff on the level of NRS and ArcSy so that sucks too.

Edit: This fuck "vs Capcom" slander needs to stop.

Yeah, the TWO GnG characters is super disappointing. And it completely removes any "weird" or quirky characters like Deadpool, or Phoenix Wright.

Fully agreed. I'd love a Marvel fighter with the same amount of care and polish that Injustice has. If that's Marvel Super Heroes 2, awesome.

Nope I like the Capcom side as much as I like the Marvel side. Not everything needs to be the same (just like everyone wants everything to be darksouls like). It's just this was a mediocre as shit attempt.

NUMBER OF RETURNING CAST FROM 3
(10 capcom) Arthur, Chris, Chun Li, Dante, Firebrand, Morrigan, Nemesis, Ryu, Spencer, Strider
(8 Marvel) Capt. America, Dr. Strange, Hawkeye, Hulk, Ironman, Nova, Spiderman, Thor

RETURNING LEGACY CHARACTERS WHO WERE NOT IN 3
(2 Marvel) Thanos / Venom (DLC)

NUMBER OF NEW CAST
(5 capcom)Ultron,Gamora,Captain Marvel , Antman,Rocket/Groot (if they play different)
(3 Capcom) Jedah, Monster Hunter, X

28 total

NUMBER OF CHARACTERS CUT FROM UMVC3
(15 Capcom) Jill, Phoenix Wright, Frank West, Vergil, Wesker, Zero, Tron Bonne, Trish, Felicia, Akuma, Viewtiful Joe, Hsienko, Haggar, C.Viper, Amaterasu

(17Marvel) Shuma Gorath, Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, Rocket Raccoon (if they play different), Dormammu, Deadpool, Wolverine, Dr. Doom, X23, Storm, MODOK, Sentinel, Super Skrull, Phoenix, Magneto, She Hulk, Taskmaster

Only outlier is Rocket Raccoon who may or may not just be RR with Groot assist or something. If Rocket/Groot is truly a new thing then yeah this count stands since old Rocket is gone and new Rocket/Groot is a new playstyle similar to how Frank was different between TVC and MVC3 or how Jill changed from MVC2 to MVC3.

TLDR Final tally.
32 characters cut
18 return from last game
2 return from past games
only 8 new characters

Personally I find this leak Bullshit because it in no way mentions Sigma and he's already confirmed dlc.

oh yeah
Secret Resi 3 remake incoming!!11!

That list is depressing.
well, by cutting out xmen the lost some of the most iconic characters of the previous mvc...
no phoenix... lmao ;_;
no wolvie//x-23...
no lot of things...

Ant-Man --> I wonder how his "char" will fit.. I mean his power is literally to grow small and big and to "talk" with insects.... oh well
Captain America --> typical
Captain Marvel --> ok
Doctor Strange --> fine but no dormammu?
Gamora --> good addition
Hawkeye --> i could live without
Hulk --> expected
Iron Man --> expected
Nova --> ok
Rocket/Groot (this is how the character was named to me; I'm not sure if it's just Rocket Raccoon with Groot assists or a redesigned character actually called Rocket/Groot) --> ok...
Spider-Man --> expected
Thanos --> ok
Thor --> expected
Ultron -->expected

on mahvel side, I would have expected :
drax (though it's "behaviour" would have overlapped hulk, but w/e)
no iron fist?
no ghost rider? really?
no doom?
no super skrull??
and this is not considering the more "classic" stuff that got removed for licensing reasons (aka xmen)...

as for capcom:
Arthur
Chris
Chun-Li
Dante
Firebrand
Jedah
Monster Hunter
Morrigan
Nemesis
Ryu
Spencer
Strider Hiryu
X

no frank west?
no phoenix wright???
no vergil?
no felicia??
no amaterasu?? O_o
no trish??
no akuma??
no viewtiful joe??
no wesker?
no c. viper?
no hsien-ko?
no jill valentine?
no zero?

WTF capcom..
you know what this feels like?
this feels like a game with a gazillion of 5-6 char per time season passes...
and I don't want this kind of ..... trash?
Injustice2 has already strained my patience, with a 9 char dlc season pass, but at least it's priced 25 eur.. and even then it means that the "full" injustice2 experience will cost me 95 eur...

if mvc: infinite follows the same steps of sfv with 4/5 char packs for 20 eur each, considering that we're missing easily 10+ core charas that might join soon, I'm looking at 110 eur for the "full" mvc: infinite experience..
Sorry but no sorry... I'll pass and wait for a goty :)

If the leak is indeed true, my hype has gone for this game. Not impressed by the roster, do we really need to have Hawkeye and Nova? No Black Panther/Winter Soldier/Black Widow is crazy IMO.

Not sure if Capcom or Marvel have the worst roster, probably Marvel. I don't think Capcom should have went with Nemesis and Arthur either.

The Venom DLC is nice but I feel he should be in the game from day 1.

Man, I'd love to see Jin Saotome make a return. I'd buy the game if he was in it.

I like Marvel and DC, and with this title I see the Marvel fan in me is just getting objectively less than the DC fan in me gets with Injustice. Marvel is leaving money on the table allowing this "vs. Capcom" shit to continue. I think it's time Marvel reaches out to ArcSys and see if they're up to the task.

Right now, my biggest hang-ups with the Capcom side are Jedah, Spencer, and Firebrand (Marvel side is its own can of worms).

Here are three fairly obscure characters from what are effectively dead franchises. Yes, yes, a handful of people want Darkstalkers back, including Ono, but until I see evidence proving otherwise, it's dead to me. Meanwhile, Ace Attorney is one of the few Capcom franchises that is still getting games made for it, and the cut the only character representing it (probably because Phoenix Wright really needed a rework in the moveset department and they didn't want to go through with that). Or how about a rep from Re7? One of the most popular Capcom games in recent memory? Where's Jack Baker with crazy chainsaw combos and a super where he does donuts with his car?

I mean, at least MonHun got a representative, which I would say was borderline necessary seeing as that seems to be the only series keeping Capcom afloat at this point. But man, they really dropped the ball on the side they had 100% control over. I can let the Marvel side go because that ball's in Marvel's court, but seriously? You fucked up your own side, Capcom?

The idea of the source just saying fuck it and giving Ryce the go ahead to leak the roster weeks before E3 still seems strange to me. Why all of a sudden was it okay to do it?

Saikyo also wasn't sure if Venom would be DLC this yr or next, but the DLC lineup is said to be brand new to the series. I dunno.

Didn't think it was possible for them to come up with such a boring and uninspired roster.

Peaked at the X reveal and just crashed.

So whoever has rights for Xmen game, can they go ahead and do a deal with DC and make a Xmen vs DC game? Or do a Xmen vs Street fighter game? Can Disney/Marvel stop them?

Damn so why aren't Xmen in this game? I hope roster leak is BS and we have Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm etc in the game.

Because Marvel decided to help promote characters they have the film rights to. Since Contest of Champions, any Marvel game released had no X-Men/FF characters. Though since the end of 2016 that's changed and they are starting to embrace those characters again.

Wolverine and Deadpool will more than likely be DLC for next year.

I still feel like this list is just damage control to soften negative backlash later on over a small roster and low content or something. No matter what they reveal later it'll be seen as "not as bad as we thought" now. Its like the list goes out of its way to cut ALL the popular Capcom guys out from last game and it even cuts Marvel dudes with no real license issues. Now though should any of those cast return its huge news and guys like Wesker and Vergil arent exactly a ton of work to port compared to making anything new.

This leak just seems like damage control to me the more I look at it. The pattern of dudes cut makes no sense otherwise on the capcom side otherwise. Now instead of "i expected that guy to be back *yawn*" people will lose their mind if any return. If you know your roster is gonna be small and single player wont be as huge as other competitors you gotta make what you got more exciting is all I'm saying.

Popularity equals more likely to be dlc guys.

Sadly...I can see this too. I see this as not the roster and that a LOT more folks will return along with a lot more exciting newcomers in terms of popularity than say Gamora/Antman as reveals exist. However, I cant really say I would believe capcom wouldn't be so dickish as to hide ALL OF THEM behind a paywall.

If this is legit it's a hard pass from me. The roster reminds me of SFV's pathetic roster and then adding new characters are inflated prices to make money. I'll skip it. The game also looks pretty damn cheap from everything we've seen so far too.

The MCU has a lot of good female characters AND characters that were in mvc3 but not here.

I mean I guess MCU Ghost Rider is Robbie and the MVC one isnt but

Imagine a roster with Quake and Jessica Jones

If this ends up being the case, what did Capcom really learn from SFV's failure?

That adding an Arcade/Story Mode at launch would be enough to win everyone over?

That the Marvel name alone would be enough to overcome a backlash?

Like, what is the overall message here?

Because it seems like they didn't learn shit if this really is the end result.
