Rumor: Monolith Soft Project Codename “Legacy” Reportedly in Development at Nintendo

Notable leaker Midori has commented that Monolith Soft is reportedly working on a project codenamed "Legacy". This project is not related to Xenosaga, according to Midori, but it will be interesting to see whether this is Xenoblade Chronicles 4 or something else entirely.

The company currently has over 200 developers, which means it is likely they are working on multiple projects at once. It is expected that their first title for the Nintendo Switch successor will launch next year, possibly a sequel to 2022's Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Following the company's release pattern, they skipped one year entirely and then released a game and DLC the following year. So, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was released in 2022, with Future Redeemed in 2023. This year, we will not receive a Monolith Soft project, leaving 2025 looking like a prime release time.

gotta be the action rpg revealed with that one bit of concept art a million years which tells us nothing except it's gonna be awesome because monoliftsoft
Was probably for Zelda. Monolithsoft is pidgeonholed into helping on big Nintendo Projects and just Xenoblade.

Past 6 years has all been Xenoblade.

Support projects has been Zelda(BotW/TotK), Splatoon, Animal Crossing.

Does the 200 number include the studio in Kyoto? AFAIK, the Kyoto studio only focus on art, making Splatoon weapon/costume and Animal Crossing costume.

I want between these two:

Xenoblade is kinda wrapped up in my mind after 3's DLC. I don't know if 3 sold especially well either, my local Walmart has had physical copies of 3 discounted to $30 and sitting on store shelves for months at this point.

Love Xenoblade but it's wrapped up very nicely after 3 and FC.

So it's time for Xeno.......!?

Whatever it is, I'm in day 1 and will buy a Switch 2 for it.

This is relevant to my interests

One of my favorite studios ever, Xenoblade for me is so perfect I don't think anything can go close in terms of JRPG, except FROM and Atlus RPGs

These types of codename rumors are always the most useless, obviously a giant first party Nintendo studio is working on a new game codenamed something. Oh, and here's another juicy tidbit, it could be a part of their popular and successful franchise, or it could be something new. Like and subscribe for more amazing insider knowledge.

Anyone with a brain knows its something else, usually with there expansions theres experimental for whatever there next game is, future redeemed had none of that, i think there done with the series for now, probably be another spin off like X

On one hand I'd love to see them do a new IP for a change, but on the other hand, Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition with fixed faces (and removal of the Tastu Is NOT FOOD joke lines) for Switch 2 would be an instant buy. Or if they remastered the ~saga games. Maybe they pried Xenogears from S-E's cold dead talons and are remaking that? Nah, I haven't been good enough to deserve something like that.

I don't want to see more Xenoblade just yet, i want to see what they can do with a smaller scale(in comparison to Xenoblade) project, more action focused potential new IP

I'd also like to see Monolith work on something other than Xenoblade in for form of a new adventure game IP. 2027 seems fine for a Xenoblade 4.
I just rewatched some old videos about Monolith Soft. The reason they made Monolith Soft was that they wanted to make new IPs, not just sequels. Hopefully, they get back to it

I don't know how the sales after DLC, but Xenoblade 3 sales are 1.86 million copies as of March 31st, 2023.

Here's a comparison I found

I would be fine with something new from them when it comes to JRPGs. I did love the Baten Kaitos Games

It certainly is one of the best games Monolith have made. But I am also a sucker for cool mecha shit.
As much as i like cool mecha shit, XBX is absolutely dead last in terms of games Monolith has made. The Xenoblade Trilogy is three 11/10s in my book, but X lacks the edge that makes even Xenosaga 2 worth it IMO

Yeah, it's that.

It's been in development since 2017 and was described by Monolith themselves on their official site as "an ambitious project targeting a global audience". It's also the project they've been recruiting action specialists for, so the gameplay will likely be more hack n slash than offline MMO like Xenoblade. I can see it being a huge game for Nintendo, replacing 3D Zelda as the big singleplayer game for experienced players in the Switch 2's launch window.

Whatever it may be, I hope the player tutorials are something comprehensible.
Seriously, Xenoblade chronicles X, Xenoblade chronicles, and Xenoblade chronicles 2 (haven't played 3 yet) have the most spartan, poorly explained tutorials ever.

I don't think the same about the first one but 2 is definitely rushed in this regard, I had to rely on an user in an internet forum compiling all tutorials just to remember some mechanics

Their next game should get you into a mech as soon as possible. No fluff. If people buy your game for mechs, just give it to them!
I liked acquiring my license. And later upgrading and customizing it. And having multiple mechs for different situations. And that's just the mech part. We aren't even into the class system yet and how open it was to mix and match stuff.

I loved XCX but maaaaaaaan the music in the main city was the wrong choice. The soundtrack overall was great but why did they chose this piece for the main hub.... Aaahhhhhhhh
