Putin will never win the Peace Prize, not because he will never do anything deserving of it but because the committee giving the prize is entirely political. While the other prizes (physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and the "fake" economics one) are given by various scientific academies in Sweden, the Norwegian Nobel Committee is appointed by the Norwegian parliament and consists primarily of old members of parliament.

Look at this picture and tell me that's not a Nobel Peace Prize winner?

i don't think it would be an outstanding choice but i think forcing a peaceful solution in a significant international crisis against so many world leaders demanding military intervention as the default response is sufficient reason to merit consideration.

Hold up. You mean like ordering drone strikes on your own civilians?

As for his global politics...how many wars is Russia currently engaged in? How many wars has Russia started over the last decade?

Putin doesn't deserve one but there is a bit of merit in saying that Obama was the worst choice for a peace prize in recent history. (Edit: Except for the EU)

The EU has done a lot to promote peace and prosperity in Europe. I think it's one of the better recipients.

Except Putin has actually initialized a war, while Obama was a new President who had only just inherited some - and suggested that he was going to end them.

IMO NaS should've got one before Obama.

I think it's easier to count the people who shouldn't have gotten one before Obama. A handful of African warlords, some mexican mafia bosses. And a few others, like Rupert Murdoch.

Every other human being on the planet would probably have been a better choice.

Given Obama was awarded one, I don't see why Putin shouldn't get it either. The man pretty much saved Syria from being bombarded..by Obama.

Obama is “the person who initiated and approved such aggressive acts as Iraq and Afghanistan and who is preparing for intervention in Syria.”

Man, remember when Obama invaded Iraq under false pretenses back in 2003? That shit was tight.

Its coming folks; Cold War 2: Hot War.

Guess the Red Dawn remake could have still used Russia after all.

I'm waiting for the thread where a pompom stuck into a pile of mashed potatoes is nominated and we get 25 responses of "lol Obama won so the pompom stuck in the mashed potatoes should win too."

Putin has done a great deal to stabilize eastern Europe by moving to annex it.
Look at how smoothly they invaded Ukraine, and compare it to the disastrous drone bombings in Iran that were approved by Obama.

Any professor and any elected politician can nominate anyone for the Nobel peace prize, so these "so-and-so was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize" are sort of non-stories in the absence of either the nominator being significant or some evidence that the committee is seriously considering the nomination.

All the Obama comments seem...odd to me. Obama himself even said he didn't think he was deserving of the award. But so many people mention it like, "Oooooh shit. Stirring the pot!".

Putin should never get a Nobel Peace Prize---whether Obama got one or not doesn't change my opinion of that.

Any professor and any elected politician can nominate anyone for the Nobel peace prize, so these "so-and-so was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize" are sort of non-stories in the absence of either the nominator being significant or some evidence that the committee is seriously considering the nomination.
Is this really all it takes? Like...could the mayor of my small town, who was elected, write a nomination?

I'm starting to see a pattern here. You give nobels to people who wage wars. This makes perfect sense.

Obama Putin Broforce.

I would've said the same when Obama was nominated.
