I need to have a dependable backup scheme but I still want to be able to play games. How much of an effect does drive mirroring have on performance vs. just having a single drive? I know striping would would be faster. I dont want to have to buy three drives and a new controller to make sure the data is secure(raid 5). I have a AN7 nf2 mobo w/built in sata raid 0/1. Can mirroring be disabled by the os? I have a seperate clean load just for gaiming?

For RAID 1, performance is the same for writes but read performance will improve significantly. Plus you get data resilience.
