Another really good episode, the pacing was good, I didn't expect that much civilain scenes, it's so much more fun than last year (I still enjoyed Black Moon a lot but this is on another level).

I don't have the manga with me at the moment but didn't Eudial transform into her true daimon form during the battle against Mars and Jupiter?

Good episode again. I'm surprised
Eudial got killed off so quickly, but I guess if that's how the manga goes, go for it.

Crunchyroll subs were so awful this episode lmao

I watched on Hulu up until now and I'm assuming the subs have been the same between both(?), but they've always been pretty bad. I don't know how they consistently go with the most awkward sentence constructions possible. Is it a time issue because of however the simulcast works out, or what? The Hulu subs for the original series are pretty good, so it's a surprise to see how bad Crystal's are. At least Cruncyroll includes subs for the OP and ED.

I think so. They kinda jobbed. Makoto getting owned by Haruka, was that in the manga too? My poor fave

Mars Snake Fire was okay. I wonder if they kept Eudial human only so they could recreate the death animation of the Daimons from the original anime.

Man, I'm really digging Season 3 so far. So, so, SO much better than the first two.

I knew it was gonna happen, but I'm still sad to see
Eudial killed off so fast
.

Well, that took over an hour to watch thanks to buffering. :/ Mars Snake Fire is my favourite attack, but it didn't look as fierce here as it did in the manga:

I like how they managed to get Rei's birthday episode to debut so close to the actual date, and I guess the Senshi can see that the civilian forms look the same as their transformed forms? Since Usagi was able to recognize Haruka and Michiru.

Yeah, you see her true Damion form as she's dying.

Got to watch it late, although not too much happens (cept at the end). I still get that ending song stuck in my head! So good.

it's reaching the point where i stopped reading the manga so my interest could go up more soon.

the little changes add up and the show feels better than the first round. still, manga weaknesses are still shown like enemies dying too fast.

I found this transformation comparison when looking for videos. It really did feel like their transformations took forever too, and by time they are done with their speeches in S3, they are STILL transforming in 1-2! Mars' crooked hand too... yeesh! It still bugs me.

Well, in all fairness, even the 90's anime version of Sailor Moon S treated the majority of the Witches 5 as fodder. :p

But yeah, in the old anime, the villains usually have several episodes to develop personalities, so I think it takes people by surprise that the sub-bosses were actually just MOTW in the manga.

If another adaptation takes a few visually interesting youma from the anime and makes them actual characters with an arc, becomes their treatment in the original anime as MOTWs a weakness?

i just feel these enemies hardly put a fight.
in other shows such as Jojo, even weak Stand users get a whole ep to themselves and put up a fight before being defeated. even the old SM anime made some of these enemies threatening

i do remember half of the Witches 5 were dispatched in one ep in the original but at least they had more elaborate schemes. here, it's just "i'm here, i'm dead!"

Yeah, not too heavy on with the action in this manga. I always thought the original anime toned down the Shojo in favor of making it a more Shonen-like.

now that i look back, the original Sailor Moon is practically Sailor Moon Stardust Crusaders with how much they pushed the monster of the week format. the original manga is pretty much devoid of that dynamic.

Yes, it's a direct continuation; it's still supposed to be a (more or less) faithful adaptation of the manga. It's just that now the show already has a good art direction and animations plus it borrows some ideas from the original anime (girls' personalities and their relationships).

Always disliked that about the manga. Nezu is comedy gold in Sailor Stars, in the manga she's barely even there.

one thing that bothers me is why they're calling this "season 3" when the 2nd arc wasn't called season 2. it makes it look like you missed one season.

crap. another one that bites the dust in less than one ep once they get there in this adaptation.

The bit where telephones just keep popping up EVERYWHERE including on a guy's head is the best bit with Iron Mouse.

Edit: new episode today! I still haven't reached this point in the manga (I tapered off around act 23, need to get back to it), but I wonder if Venus jobs against Mimete. Also wonder when we're gonna see the outer transformation scenes.

So this episode's action scenes felt straight up 90s anime all the way. Nothing but stock footage attacks.

Except for Mercury using Aqua Mirage!!! Except it's ripped directly almost shot for shot from the 90s short.

That was the best episode of Crystal by far. What a great episode. The entire sequence at the start with Usagi crushing on Haruka, Chibi Usa and Hotaru, Venus sneaking off and using her Sailor V compact, Mercury Aqua Mirage, the official introduction of Uranus and Neptune, not to mention Haruka's female outfit.

And the entire episode was gorgeously animated to boot.
Absolutely loved it, was smiling from start to finish.

Also the triumphant return of Tuxedo Mask! As a cameo pretty much, lol

Loved this ep! The animation change really makes a difference too! Also so nice being able to catch this EVERY SINGLE WEEK!

So I think I figured out how to describe Haruka: biologically, she is female, but she is overall gender fluid. Even when not transformed, she appears in makeup, although always men's clothes. I think it's the best way to think of her as "both male and female".

Well, expect for when she appears in a dress like this episode.

She tends to go to each gender extreme, at least in this arc (she's more middle of the road later on). When she's acting as a man, she has no feminine features and uses "ore" to refer to herself. When she's acting as a woman, she lets her boobs hang out and refers to herself as "atashi".

Huh, I never noticed it, but it makes sense to talk like the image she is using.

So, according to this topic they managed to make Crystal good. I guess I should give it a chance once again then. To be frank, I found Crystal incredibly dull, leaving myself very disappointed (and wondering if I wasn't remembering the original series through pink-colored glasses), so I really hope to be pleasantly surprised by this season 3 (didn't watch season 1 and 2 entirely - I was that put off by it).

I finally remembered to watch this week's episode, it was gud (again).
Haruka and Michiru are just the coolest. Like, the original anime made a big deal out of ho they're just way stronger then the other Guardians, but one-shotting Mimette was still pretty impressive. I'm curious if there's a specific reason Minako transformed into a male student specifically? Is that a Sailor V manga reference or because Artemis made the thing or what? It was neat in any case.
(I don't know how much I should worry about spoiler-tagging or what the statute of limitations for new episodes is or whatever so I'm just doing everything)

Might as well finish up the older seasons, just so you are caught up with some stuff in S3.

I don't know the manga so I dunno if stuff becomes relevant later, but so far it doesn't seem very worth it. S2 starts off okay but the second half was just insanely tedious, and I think S1 is pretty much the same? It seems like as long as you have a general idea of the plot it's safe to skip the first two seasons.

I'd say anyone that absolutely needs to experience those story lines in their entirety is better off just reading the manga. Basically 100% the same thing just with better art and the occasional levity missing from the first 26 episodes of Crystal. Like, the one thing Crystal added over the manga was a bit more for the Shitennou during Dark Kingdom and the end result of that was to actually make me even more frustrated with things due to how they made it pointless.

This has gotten amazing! I'm loving the new direction this series has taken. It's actually fun to watch now. :p And just in time too cause this is about the point I stopped watching the original anime way back when.

Hnnghhhh the Uranus and Neptune transformations are gorgeous. Not feeling the music though, compared to the outer senshi theme
Especially the animation in their faces after the initial "Make up!" animation, gorgeous. Especially Neptune's

Didn't care much for this episode nor the transformations. The coolest part was Ami transforming mid air, falling into the pool and jumping out of the water.

Aye, my only issue with it was the theme. Prefer the outer theme.

Still loved this ep and hyped for next weeks :D

edit: also I like the new op, it's rather cute. I'll miss the old ED though.
