Samsung Galaxy S4 (new flagship Android phone from Samsung)

Just bought an HTC One yesterday and i's a pretty cool phone. Wanted to go with the S4 but I couldn't justify the extra $150 just for a slightly faster processor and slightly bigger screen, though the fact that you can't upgrade the memory of the HTC One sucks. Controlling my Home Theater with my phone is the bees knees though.

Hey guyz, got a problem...

Whenever I try to take an HDR mode picture, the phone exits to the homescreen. What's all this about?
Android. wow such stable no problemz
New Galaxy S4 user here, I was wondering why the screen and back of the phone get quite hot whenever I'm playing a game.

Because everything inside it works faster, which requires the battery to supply more energy. A residual product of all this energy being transferred, is heat. It is completely normal.

Hi, I'm currently using the Google keyboard on my S4. Is it possible, using the personal dictionary function in the settings, to assign multiple words to one shortcut? I'd like for the shortcut, when typed, to appear in the suggestion bar with a "..." underneath to allow me to select from multiple words or phrases from my personal dictionary. So for example, I type in the shortcut "greet" and when I hold down on it in the suggestion bar, it shows all phrases and words assigned to that shortcut
Is this possible?

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
So I dropped my S4 and the AMOLED screen broke, so I either have to get that replaced or the whole phone. I can still plug in and access all the files on my phone via USB to computer, if I make a copy of all the files and then when I get a new phone paste them over whatever it has in it will that work? Will I successfully have all the my contacts still?

log into gmail on a computer and click contacts. if all of your contacts are there, you have nothing to worry about, when you sign in with your google account on the replacement device, your contacts will all be there.

I was browsing the phones at the store and I'm kind of leaning towards the Galaxy S4. The problem is that I want a model with more than 16GB internal storage. 32GB or 64GB would be good for me.

Looking around online, it seems that 16GB is the only one sold. I read somewhere that 64GB was announced but never came out in the US. I'm guessing that my only option would be to buy the 32GB phone from ATT and then pay someone to unlock it.

Any advice? Yeah, I know about the micro SD slot but I want to reserve that for my music. I still want more internal storage.

So I'm getting my first real smart phone tomorrow and I have decided to go with the Galaxy S4. I'm a a complete noob so is there anything really cool you guys are doing with your phones? Anything I should know?

It's a portable computer with the bonuses of bluetooth audio (music & podcasts), GPS navigation, and all the usual phone functions. There might be something that can't be done with smartphones, but I haven't found it yet.
Unless it's Windows Phone, then there's a lot it can't do.

DAMN! It freaking happened today. Fell out of my pocket, case did nothing. Front glass/lens is cracked, digitizer/LCD seem fine because the image is okay and the touch controls work.

Repairing this looks cheap (25 ish USD) but also a hellish gamble with the hair dryer and what not.

DAMN.

Has anyone had sudden death syndrome with their S4? It happened to me this morning but luckily I have insurance so it got swapped for a brand new one in store.

Lucky the digitizer was fine.

I would just spend the ~$75 at one of those mall kiosks and have them do it.

Yeah, I'm looking at $40 for OEM parts from etradesupply (plus up to $50 in customs fees, they claim) and then the nightmare of pulling that sucker off.

Think I'll pay someone else to do it, or cover up the cracks with a screen protector (to keep dust out, or to keep them from widening) and tough it out.

The amount of update and app clutter must really have really been affecting my phones performance. I just did a hard reset to fix the annoying "authentication" wifi error, and now my phone is running so good. I didn't even notice the gradual performance degradation.

Have an issue with microSD card, suddenly got a notification saying something about my microSD card (forgot what it was exactly). I just took out the back cover, ejected and reinserted my microSD card. Doesn't even detect anymore. Tried a random 128mb card I had and it worked just fine and detected.

Trying the card on my PC now.

EDIT: MicroSD works on my PC, I backed up the photos that were already on there. ANDDD it seems to work again on my phone. Maybe since I dropped it the MicroSD shifted a little? It wouldn't detect before though.

Hey, so I'm trying to get the new update, but I can not for the life of me find the software update option in the settings. Am I looking in the wrong spot? The only options I can find under More is "System Update" and "About device". And even then, under those there is no option for updates beyond the Samsung Software and the phones Firmware (both of which have no updates available.

Is my phone just acting extra dumb or is it me?

It is likely just not available; staged rollout probably? Firmware Update is the correct option.

STILL having the stupid MicroSD issue, ugh.

Not even sure if my microsd is fried now (Kingston 8gb), because my random 128mb detects just fine on the phone. The 8gb card doesn't even detect on my PC.

My 8gb got the 'Unexpected removed' error. :/

Looks like they removed driving mode. Dragon is a much better replacement anyway so no big loss.

I have a problem with my S4 and need to know if other users are experiencing it.

Since the 4.3 update last week over Verizon, I cannot send MMS messages when connected to WiFi. The S4 does not send MMS over WiFi, but before the update, it seamlessly connected to the network and sent the message on its own.

I now have to turn off WiFi each time I want to send a message while in my apartment. It's a nuisance.

4.3 actually had seemed to fix all the issues I was having with wifi. I used to always get the "Authentication Error" ever since 4.3 my phone stays connected to my home network.

Welp, my phone seems to have gone tits up.

I was coming home last night, my phone plugged into my car stereo and suddenly, it just stops playing. I just assumed the signal died and since I was driving, I couldn't stop to check it. But upon getting home and taking it inside, I found that it simply crashed, due to what I assumed was low battery. But upon plugging it in, it brings up the 0 power screen and continues to reset itself forever. The battery isn't buldged, I tried pulling the memory card and the Sim, nothing. I think 4.3 merced itself.

I'm gonna try and take it to the verizon store and see what my insurance will do for me. This is really frustrating.

Looks like it's $50 on Amazon right now with extension. My phone is pretty much done for so I think I'll snag it for that price rather than wait a week (and in line).

i won't argue with that. my cousin spent like 4-5 hours in line at Sam's Club last year. we hit up the mall and some other places for several 7am and 8am openings, got the last few things on our lists and came back and waited the final hour with her. she did mention that they had coffee and snacks though...

Is there a way to disable the audio safety feature that lowers the volume whenever a headphone is plugged in?

Also, any way to bypass the camera lockout when low on battery?

Looks like Walmart is also giving away a $100 gift card with purchase of the phone during the weekend. You buy it for $100 and get the card after the fact. Might go this direction myself. Good time to buy a phone.
