I have a Samsung 200 Gig IDE HDD

Very quiet, and pretty fast too. No Problems so far.

I had a 300 Gig SATA Seagate Barracuda before which was very noisy, so I ebayed it.

^^^ What he said. Had a Seagate Barracuda (SATA) too, was too noisy so I sold it and got a Samsung Spinpoint 200GB SATA2, wich works perfectly. They say it's the slowest of the current 200GB SATA HDDs but I haven't noticed any difference. It's now suspended in mid air on some rubber bands and I can't hear it whatsoever when I sleep, 2 meters from it. :)

Seems like alot of folks are bothered by Seagate data check crunching noise. I have SATA WD JBs, and they are pretty quiet too, but my buddy regrets the Seagate purchase even though he got it for the 5 yr warranty over 3 years of my WDs.

I had one 120GB Spinpoint, which developed one single bad sector after maybe a year of use. The Samsung's disk checking utility is reporting it, but I've first noticed it first when one MP3 file wouldn't copy over when I tried to copy it. S.M.A.R.T. never reported any problems, btw. Disk is still working, but I'm going to get an exchange now, and I've switched to WD 160GB. I simply don't want to continue using disks that develop bad sectors even if it's so minor like in my case. I think you'll hear stories like mine for every manufacturer and every HDD ever made, it doesn't mean that Samsung's disks are bad, I still think they are quite good in fact.

I'm pretty sure the HDD in the current kits of the XBOX360 are Samsung. That's a good indicator of trust.

looking at those internal pics of the 360, pretty much everything is made by Samsung.

Yeah, MS and Samsung have some deal around Xbox 360, that's for sure. They are also using, and cross promoting their LCD TVs with it.

That's surprising. Seagates are usually renowned for being pretty quite. In fact, I switched my 160GB WD drive out for a Segate Barracuda for that reason and the thing's basically inaudible. I hear a little noise when something's really hitting the drive, but that's about it.
