The other headline here is "Sales of much less expensive phones outpace those of more expensive phones"

This is like "b b but thats only natural, wii is much cheaper than ps3".

yes it is, but thats not nintendos problem. Or in this case: samsungs.

More importantly, the Galaxy range is offering a product that many feel is as good or better than the iPhone, which is why it's selling (not simply "more products = more sales")..

Did you dven read my post? Honest question, seeing you just rephrased what I said?

They are selling 230$ to 600$ phones that vary tremendously spec wise and say they are part of the same line. The importance of the number of models available cannot be understated, and isn't as simple as "they make a better phone, so they sell better". They make a better product lineup, that can appeal to different categories of clients, which greatly increases their chances of selling. AND they make awesome phones. If you only make awesome phones and don't budge price wise, you get Apple.

Samsung's bullshit numbers

I know it was already posted, but it was ignored. Samsung won't say how many phones they actually sold.

Tobor, i found this blog comment somewhere, i give it to you so you can use it the next time someone is suggesting that Samsung is doing well:
XXX, why do you say that “some other company outsold Apple in smartphones for the quarter” ?

Where did you see that another company outsold Apple in hardware?

Numbers, and source, please.

Or, are you simply another Theft-of-Apple-IP apologist?

Hmmm?

I don't care if they're beating them, I'd just like to see real numbers. "Shipped not sold" is always lame.

This guy seems to think that Strategic Analytic's definition of Samsung smartphones and shipment numbers is a bit suspect.

This guy references the same basic complaint, but puts things a bit more bluntly.

Checking Google there were complaints in the past how Strategic Analytics was defining smartphones.

There analysis seems a little lacking from what I can see.

*hugs Galaxy S II* Going from BlackBerry to Android has probably been the best move of my life, could never go back. Are there any arguments as to iOS being better than Android other than the content on the app store?

It's obvious that you care. The link was posted 2 hours ago, and when it didnt get enough attention, even though people were acknowledging it, you reposted it, adding the bolded headline... This is not how a man that does not care acts.

Haha, I didn't check the time stamp. All that proves is that I haven't had any coffee yet.

there are other interesting things to talk about here too guys =P

Samsung said its fourth-quarter earnings could be better than the third, boosted by one-off gains from its $1.4 billion sale of its hard disk drive business to Seagate Technology (STX.O).
Samsung was the sole profitable firm among major global dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip makers in the third quarter.

Second-ranked computer memory chip maker Hynix Semiconductor (000660.KS) and Japan's Elpida Memory (6665.T) swung to deep losses as prices of DRAM chips used in PCs tumbled about 50 percent in the third quarter.
Samsung's display business posted losses for a third consecutive quarter on weak demand for TVs and PCs.
like this

Samsung's chip business is also benefiting from strong demand for mobile processor chips used in Apple's iPhone and iPad tablet as well as its own Galaxy smartphones.
Also we all know Samsung is making money off iPhones sold anyway. It's a pretty symbiotic relationship unless patents come into play.

There is no shipment/sold mixup here. Both numbers refer to shipments. Even if Apple refers to them in their financial reports as 'sold' they actually mean shipments. You can check data published by Gartner (that publish actual sales numbers) and you will see that they don't match numbers in Apple reports.

Samsung didn't publish smartphones numbers for last two quarters so I'm assuming SI estimate it themselves. They can be a bit off but I don't think they are off by 10 millions or more.

I like how even when a company is beating Apple, they are not beating Apple. Always an excuse.

I'm not a fan of Samsung personally and I do think they often cross a line but this is a major accomplishment, especially in a world of Apple and 1,000 other Android manufacturers. Props.
