Sandwich GAF report in: what are your sandwich ingredients and recipes?

They're both stupid, and a real man grips his sandwich hard enough that nothing falls out.

Yeah, I never have a problem with things slipping out either.

But, if one needs some sort of substance to help with that issue, mustard is infinitely better than mayonnaise.

Doesnt go with seafood or lighter flavors like certain cheeses.

Mustard, being a master race condiment, takes over flavor, it does not complement it.

Well, seafood is repulsive, and doesn't belong anywhere near anything that I'm eating :þ

Don't recall having any issues with it with any cheeses, but then, I eat many things plain anyway, so maybe that's part of why.

Turkey
Cucumber slices
Hummus

Really simple, easy to make, and pretty filling.

Cucumber and hummus is such an amazing combination. Barely edges out carrots as my favorite thing to dip in hummus.

Cucumbers make me burp like crazy for hours, so I avoid them most of the time. Very sad.

Where's that little girl asking "why not both?"

whynotboth.jpg

I had both on a sub once.
It was terrible.

I will tell you my secret and you will be amazed. Make an open-faced sandwich on sliced bread. Once you have you're spread, meat, vegetables, cheese, etc laid upon the one slice of bread cut it in half and place it on top of the other half.

You will have a perfect ratio of spread, cheese, vegetables on top/bottom with a center of meat or meat analog.

It will be perfect and you shall weep whilst you eat it.

Pastrami, Onion, Tomato, Pepperjack, barbecue sauce on some sort of roll stuck into a George Foreman is my GOAT homemade. If I'm picking up a sub I'll generally go for buffalo chicken, pepperjack, lettuce, tomato, onion and bleu cheese (if they've got it, ranch if they don't).

I know a guy who can't handle anything more intense than ham and American cheese on white bread, cold. *shudder*

Favorite sandwiches:

Grilled cheese made with 12-grain bread, bacon and a combination of muenster and sharp cheddar.
Bagel sandwich - toasted bagel, lox, cream cheese, bean sprouts, spinach, sriracha.
Polish dog made on a toasted crusty baguette with kraut and spicy mustard.
Breakfast sausage, eggs and cheddar cheese on a homemade English muffin - basically a McMuffin that doesn't suck.
Sardines on toasted sourdough with a bit of tomato and lettuce and a little Greek yogurt.
Hamburger made with a grilled portabello cap instead of meat.

Try smoked salmon and avocado with some mustard and whatever else you like.

I was just reminded of a recipe I used to prepare at my old job, you just need a small sized grilled tuna steak sprinkled with shichimi, avocado and a bit of wasabi mayo so you can get a God-Tier tasting sandwich for very little effort.

Egg Sandwich

Healthy version:

Whole wheat/multigrain bread or english muffin
One egg
Salt and pepper
Hot sauce if you want it
Kale or lettuce and tomato optional

Kale-Bacon-Egg-Sandwich-.jpg

The works version:

Bagel OR Panera Bread (Tomato Basil is the GOAT)
Two eggs
Two slices of cheese (Pepperjack is my choice)
Bacon if you're into that
Salt and pepper
Again, hot sauce if you want it
Kale/lettuce and tomato optional

I had both on a sub once.
It was terrible.

I love both on a sandwich. I'll cook a nice piece of chicken just to make a sandwich with. Put some cheese on it (no specific kind because I always switch it up). Not always lettuce, but I love tomatoes and pickles. I'll put some onions on it sometimes. All veggies must be cut super thin so they lie on the bread okay. Mayo + mustard on either a roll I get from the deli or Portuguese rolls from the grocery bakery. It's good stuff.

What I really want to work on is making the white sauce from the halal carts. I'd love to make a lamb burger and have the white sauce and hit sauce to top it off with.

Toasted bread with "leverpastej". Simple and amazing.

If I'm going for more of a meal, turkey, bacon, french mustard, red onion, västerbotten cheese, aioli.

Croissant
Shaved Boar's Head Honey Cured Turkey
Baby Swiss
Lettuce
Red Onion
Sprouts
Tomato

Second best is to swap the turkey for ham and the swiss for pepper cheddar. Add some green chile. Mmmmmm. Glad that today is grocery shopping day.

The Ultimatum (from the top down):

-Plain slice of white bread
-A fried egg
-Cheddar Cheese
-A slice of hot, buttered toast
-HP sauce, or Worcester sauce
-Ham, or, if you have some, bacon

My favourite sandwich at the moment is turkish bread with chicken, tomato, avocado, cheese, red onion and sweet chili sauce.

Hummus and avocado!

Thread off to a great start.

EDIT: Beetroot is also good on most sandwiches. Just don't wear nice clothes while you eat it.

The last good sandwich I had, had... mature cheddar, pret pickle (not unlike the Branston below), tomatoes, red onion, mayo, salad leaves. The mayo probably wasn't necessary, like pineapple added on a pizza. Disclaimer: don't have sandwiches that often, but I still remember that one.

I was going to say Ham and Pickle.

But then I remembered that you American types don't know the joy of Branstons Pickle and would probably think I was sticking a Gherkin in with my smoked ham, yeah... no.

Other than that, Tuna, Sweetcorn & Mayo, Chicken and Coleslaw, Blue Cheese & Walnut are all good options.

Ham and Mustard (Must be Coarse grain!) is godly too.

God bless you sir...

As someone who has only has turkey maybe three times ever and didn't like it much, I'm surprised at how popular turkey sandwiches are in this thread.

Ham, mashed avocado with salt and pepper and thinly sliced red onion.

Or salami, red cheddar, gherkins.

Preferably on whole grain.

Toasted: White bread, mozzarella, pesto, pepperoni
Normal: Brown seeded bread, tuna, mayonnaise, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, black pepper
Bagels: White sesame seed bagels, lightly toasted and cooled, black pepper German salami, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, American mustard

For me, a good sandwich after the basics of adding the ingredients you like best is all about doctoring mayo/oil to bring out more flavors. I make spreads all the time. One of my favorites combines mayo, lee kum kee garlic chili sauce, cayenne, and sugar. Tastes close to the fried shrimp dipping sauce at Ruby Tuesday if you've ever had that (this is the closest I could get to that after many failed attempts). But it is really good on many different types of sandwiches.

There is a synergy between Salad Cream and Potato products that some just refuse to accept.

Their loss! :P
