Saudi Arabia’s "The Line" New City Design

Bunch of naysayers. You're the reason we still don't have flying cars.

Looks cool, but unlikely to happen. Also in my head I was just imagining a constant *thunk* *thunk* of birds flying into the mirrors.

This does not appear to be designed by actual city planners but by people who were really good at simcity 20 years ago.

Something like this can be done for sure ( Tiny House communities ) but this seems incredibly over planned.

I was curious to see which regions in real life would be the first to start fully committing to these ideas.
That third picture was a real place: Kowloon Walled City. Look it up on Wikipedia. Stuffing millions of people into a tiny, nasty city is not a new idea, it's just an idea that always fails.

"zero carbon emissions"
but it's made of giant 500m tall mirror walls 170km long... lol wut

Given that it's in saudi arabia, the 1% will own 95% of the space, while all the peasants live in cramped quarters in the bottommost floor where there's no sunlight.

I've seen this before, and I still don't understand why spreading everything out as much as possible would be a good idea. Everyone will just be far from every other part of the city.

Can't wait for an Elysium moment. The poor / middle income finally segregated to one location and the 1% living in their dystopia.. because that's their equality.

Although there will be many parts of the city, each part will be the same as the last. 20 or so zones that are all exactly the same. The only difference is the people who live in them.

It's a ridiculously insular design that I personally hate. But some of the bright minds who want to shape our future as a species have a raging boner for this limited design.

Take away people's need to travel. Everything the same, everywhere. It's shit.

Sounds completely dreadful.

In principal it seems like a good idea I wonder how waste collection and disposal would work

Now just put this totally self sufficient and absolutely not rife with class disparity city on a train track and drive it around!

They should drop the wall idea, and start making a line that is located in a huge forest or nature around it everywhere. So u basically live in a village but city sized.

Looks like they started construction on it. Kinda exciting if I'm being honest. I wouldn't want to live there, but I also wouldn't want to live in a desert period.

To be honest it looks like a mass grave of Indonesian, Pakistani, and whatever other slave working class they bring in. 2000 years from now archeologists are really gonna stumped.
