The premise of the movie puts Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Carey Elwes) in a rather unfortunate situation: he's chained in a cell opposite another man and between them lies a dead man in a pool of blood.
Via a recorded message, his captor tells him he must kill the other man within eight hours or they will both die, along with Lawrence's wife. To facilitate the process, he's provided with a saw just strong enough to cut flesh and bone.
The trailer asks two questions. First, to Lawrence, since this cage will become your tomb, how much blood will you shed to stay alive? And second, to the audience, how f***ed up is that?
