...absolutely fantastic.

And, in contrast to his recent comments slamming the Nintendo DS as "a gimmick", Harrison was full of praise for Nintendogs as a game that's pushing the boundaries: "I briefly played Nintendogs at E3 and I think it's absolutely fantastic.

"I'm very admiring of what Nintendo have done with that game... I would love for us to go and create that kind of immersion for a game on the PSP."

I thought he was going to say 'fad' which would have caused the franchise to sell 30 million copies in the next 10 years.

+1 respect to Phil Harrison.

I don't believe I've ever seen a Sony spokesperson extend compliments to their competition before.

Ditto. I think it's great when competitors are honest and compliment each other.

"Stupid dogs..."

That game was the epitome of stupid.

Respect for Harrison - +1

Not just because he likes the game, but because he can admit it. It would have been very easy for him to say it sucks (as any rival would do in that situation). Very few industry folks are willing to stick their necks out and actually praise a competitor (Nintendo and Capcom have done it...I can't think of many others who do)

Sony likes Nintendogs and Nintendo likes the Eye Toy?

That'd be a pretty obvious collaboration there if it wasn't for one little thing...

Phil Harrison did have some positive things to say about Xbox Live just recently, I believe.
Yes, in the same keynote address as this comment, actually. GAF just loves to break everything down into soundbites.

Phil was getting beat up in that other thread for being a puppet, and I've said all along, he's the most level-headed Sony exec. The guy has been like this since the PS1. I like Kutaragi for his ambitious talk, but Phil is the straight shooter of the lot. He's still his company's cheerleader, but he never seems to have a problem giving credit to the competition. I think that's why he's been the front man for the company for a while. He was the main guy who handled the PS2 unveiling in the west, so it's no suprise to me. And even I find it hard to give Nintendogs the credit it deserves (and it deserves it), so for a Sony exec to get up there and say it is pretty impressive. But still...damn those dogs. PEACE.

One good thing about Phil Harrison is that he does give credit where it's due. It's no wonder he's now head of Sony development worldwide these days, especially given the creative stuff that London studio has done under him (making EyeToy a success, and doing stuff like Singstar and Buzz).

I'd much rather someone like him, someone who is passionate about the product, was the boss of SCEE than that muppet David Reeves who's the boss at the moment who doesn't seem to know a thing.
