Hiroshi Kawano, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, will retire from the company at the end of this month.

Kawano joined Sony back in 1985, and has held various roles at the company over the years, including general manager of Sony Europe, and senior vice president of Consumer Sales.
The Sony veteran has been a key figure in the launch of the PlayStation 4 worldwide, as well as the man in charge of the PlayStation brand in Japan.
According to a press release from SCE this morning, Atsushi Morita will take the president role starting from September 1. Morita was previously a member of the board, and vice president of administration and control at the company.

They also use to word "retiring" and not "leaving"

Mods, Plz change the title to "Retiring".

Lock if Old.

29 years :O

SCEJ has seemingly been lagging behind SCEA and SCEE for a while, especially in basically keeping the Playstation brand popular among the public, and in terms of game output as well. Hopefully this turns out to be a positive move for both the guy and the company

Damn Druckmann knows no bounds, not even Japan.

In all seriousness, he seemed cool from the press conferences but I haven't heard much good news from Sony Japan so it isn't too surprising. The guy has been there for a very long time though, good luck with whatever life takes you I guess.

What's going on at SCEJ?!
His reach is far

A man leaves a job he has been in for 29 years and people wonder whats wrong with the company.

Half of Gaf wasn't even born when he had his job interview.

The alarmist nature of this board is ridiculous at times.

It is rather strange that virtually all 3 Presidents for Sony's headquarters have been replaced in the last 5 years I think. When did Jim Ryan become President of SCEE? Was that 2009?

It's time for Allan Becker to step in ^_^

But seriously, SCEJ needed this change.
Didn't do all that well for the last 10 years :-/

2011.

Andrew House ascended the throne of Kaz, and Jim took over Europe.
