Sci-Fi movies of the mid 2000s

Children of Men was the best sci fi of the mid 2000s. It was groundbreaking, both in its direction by Alfonso Cuaron and the cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki, capturing a bleak and desolate world, robbed of its hope due to women being infertile.

Children of Men features several unbroken shots, which have gained notoriety for the sheer complexity it took to shoot them, and the editing involved in these scenes is just mind blowing.

Everything about this movie is of the highest order, from directing, cinematography, sfx, acting, storytelling. It's an amazing achievement in the works of cinema and the fact that it went under the radar of the public perception and flopped, just goes to show that we can't have nice things due to humanity being complete fucking mongrels who sits patiently for the next superhero movie.

Moon came out in 2009, does that still count?. Probably not, late 2000s, but great film. Saw it in a little indie theater on a double date.

Children of Men probably the best of that bunch. 2006. Legendary film IMO

Gattaca was 97

I was gonna say this, but in fairness to OP it really was a great film. We watched in high school and it has stuck with me to this day.

Sunshine (2007) isn't a great film, maybe isn't even good, probably one of Danny Boyle's worse, but it has some good moments.

Takes a pretty wild tonal shift in the end. From what I remember, anyway.

Have to say Gattaca is the GOAT. Very random how I watched it, I was on holiday in Mexico and I sort an advert for the movie Gattaca that would be on some movie channel, obviously this was all in Spanish and I had no idea what its as promoting. However, once I got home I decided to watch this movie (this was 2014) and I was blown away.

Easily the best Sci-fi movie or at least up there in the top 5 ever made. I can't believe I missed this gem for so long. Do not watch the trailer, the trailer is completely nonsense and has nothing to do with the movie at all.

Recommend me more sci-fi

iron man was so fucking awesome

because it dealt with earthly problems with earthly solutions

motherfucker built a war suit in a cave with junk

then hes back at home and he pulls out the junk scrap metal reactor out of his chest and replaces it with a highly refined machined glowing reactor

starting thrust power with 10% and slamming into the wall like a dumass

then reducing thrust power to 1% finding that a bit weak, upping it to 2%

guaranteed everyone in their own head wondering "so WTF would 100% be???? 😱😱😱"

that fucking movie was a front row ticket to research and development of IRON MAN bro

and it's filled with wit and heart

nothing else like it to this day

think about this shit 2008 batman movie so far ahead of whatever junk that has been produced more currently

district 9

moon

the future is in the past bro, 2004-2010 that was some good shit
