Scotch & Cigars

The world weighs heavy on me these days, so I'm gonna treat myself to a little decadence tonight:

A bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail Scotch, and two cigars; a Liga Privada UF-13, and a My Father #3 Crema. One cigar tonight, one tomorrow. Not sure which I'll go with first. Might have to flip a coin.

Pretty excited. I've never had this Ardbeg before, only the TEN previously (which is fucking magnificent), and neither of these cigars, though I've read they both pair well with the Uigeadail.

Any of you have a preferred Scotch & cigar pairing? Or any other liquor? Do share...

How is Uigeadail? I've been looking to get this recently but not sure to drop big bucks on this. I know it's peaty but i'm afraid it will be too medicinal which i HATE. I hear it taste like honey glazed smoke ham. If that's close, i think will jump on this.

Honestly, it tastes a bit too sweet for me. I prefer the Ardbeg 10. If you prefer a little sweetness to it, you might like it. But if you like the "campfire" element, go with the 10.

Liga Privada UF-13, and a My Father #3 Crema

Liga Privada is one of my favorite cigar lines.

My Father I can take or leave, but a lot of people seem to love them.

If you haven't already, pick up some Warped cigars. I've never had a bad one. All of their blends are great.

I love a good cigar. There's just something so relaxing about it. Especially with friends.

Scotch, I can't get into. I do love bourbon and other whiskey though.

I've got a shop right next to a customer of mine that makes hand-rolled Cuban sandwiches for just under $2.00 a stick. Nothing super special about them, but I've paid much more for worse cigars.

My favorite liquor pairing is usually rum or bourbon.

My go to Scotch is Glenlivet 12 year. Usually have a bottle in the house. I am just now getting into cigars. I have had a few over the years but nothing did it for me until I Got a hold of a few Cubans and now I am hooked.

Any recommendations for some good state side brands? I don’t smoke often.

Stick with Dominican or cuban tobacco first. Move up to nicaragua then african of you want stronger tobacco.

I always go with a lighter color conneticut wrapper. This usually signifies it is a mild or mild medium tobacco. Most times it is easier on pallette and you can inhale these lighter cigars without issue.

Jrcigar.com is a good online usa cigar club to belong to. They sell cheap bundles too.

More of a Rum person.

I like mixing my self an original recipe Mai Tai and listening to cheesy exotic music from the 50ies and 60ies, Tiki style...

My go to Scotch is Glenlivet 12 year.

I bought a 200mL bottle of this on Friday to try, it's really good actually but I prefer smokier flavours. I like the vanilla nose but the taste reminded me of hazelnut flavourings I've tried. Still trying to find something I like that is cheaper than my preferred Lagavulin 8 year.

Yeah I get that it’s pretty weak in that front. Sometimes you just want something super peaty that curls the toes. I have had some great peaty drams from whiskey bars but nothing that I can recommend for home.

I am still on the hunt for something myself with a bolder flavor to add to my small collection at home.

I much prefer a pipe to a cigar. I'm not sure what about cigars I don't like, I can't tell if it's the tobacco they use or if it's more related to the wrapper. I really like the classic Prince Albert, I'm planning on finally trying some of the other popular pipe Tobacco's soon.

I've discovered I really only like peaty, smoky scotches.

Lagavulin is still my favourite, I buy the 8 year because it's the cheapest here and it still costs me like $100 for a 750ml. Hopefully trying out the 16 year if I get it for Christmas.

I bought some Bowmore 12 year to try some cheaper stuff out, it's pretty smoky and I'm enjoying it.

Not a fan really of the floral or fruity scotches, Glenlivet and Glenfidich are recommended a lot but I can't stand the taste of it really.

Cohiba from Cuba and a bottle of The Macallan Fine and Rare 60-Year-Old.

But man, two stogies in two days? You are going to be tasting that for a week.

I do hope you are having a steak to begin.

I tend to prefer a pipe as they don't have such a long commitment and wont blow your mouth out for two days, but to each their own

I just picked this up last night. Its one of the higher rated peaty scotches for a decent price. Its not bad but I was hoping for something a bit more smoky.

Next on my list is the Ardbeg Uigeadail

We have very similar taste! I actually bought that Highland Park but the 10 year, it's not bad but not smoky enough for me.

I also have that Ardbeg on my To Try list :messenger_sunglasses:

Some expensive tastes here, but I respect it. Any recommendations for a casual relax and watch Netflix scotch in the $25-35 price range?
johnnie walker is pretty standard and a good start. try a 750ml of black label, should be around $25-$30 depending where you live. theres plenty of other great scotch in that price range. you just gotta buy a bottle and go for it. everyone has different taste buds and likes different thigns, and the differneces in liquors is nuanced so its hard to know if you will like it or not. also, there is a psychology behind how much you pay for something, and how much you actually enjoy it, so keep that in mind.

tl; dr - buy something different every time and see what you like.

same goes for cigars in my opinion. dont just take someone elses word for it, and dont let an expensive price tag fool you into thinking it must be the best. its different for everyone

My personal fave is Talisker, which is a single malt from the Isle of Skye.

I barely smoke a cigar, so can't really comment on that section.

I have never tried Talisker. What is your go to year?

Depends on the occasion.

For a special occasion, it'll be the 8 year. I have a bottle of their special edition 8 year that they released in 2020 that I'll crack open for a very special occasion.

For standard weekend drinking, off the shelf standard is fine.

If I had the money, I'd absolutely buy their 43 year old edition which should be released in July. If you want a bottle, it's preorder only and will set you back £3,500 a bottle.

I’ve been branching out a lot in my cigars lately. Today I picked up this bad boy.

I’m excited to smoke this bad boy around the camp fire tonight. Sadly no whiskey to pair it with.

Nice thread. I love cigars and whiskey.

My favorite are the Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Double Robusto. There's an earthy spicy taste that comes from that cigar that goes good with a scotch like Johnnie Black.

One of the parings I discovered with cigars, though, was using Root Beer, and it's surprisingly really good. I first got that suggestion from Bill Burr on his podcast. The root taste of the root beer becomes heightened on your tongue after a few puff of the cigar.

That Cigar is added to the list. Great idea on the root beer. The wife likes to try my cigars but hates scotch. I’ll start buying her fancy root beers to pair with it.

Oh, I just forgot another one! If she likes beers, or even yourself, I found that Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale goes great with cigars.

I’m on a rum kick, really enjoyed a bottle of Foursquare Detente I had recently, gonna pick up another bottle for special occasions. I’ve also enjoyed Plantation XO and picked up a bottle of Smith and Cross yesterday, Jamaican rum is a bit different but I’m enjoying it.

I absolutely love cigars, started up a few months ago and have dived in headfirst heh. I set a budget and try to balance some cheaper sticks and nicer smokes. Had a nice vacation with the missus and splurged a bit during, got to try some damn fine sticks.

Some of my favs in order of cheap to not so cheap:
Ave Marie Knight Templar
Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro and Shade
My Father Flor De Las Antillas
DTT Umbagog
DTT Mi Quireda TT
Crowned Heads Mil Dias
Illisione Cigars Prive
CAO Mortal Coil
BLK NBK
BLTC Bishop’s Blend
DE Liga Privada no. 9 BP
Arturo Fuente Don Carlos’ Personal Reserve
AF OpusX

I’ve also got some cubans at the house, excited to dive into those :)
