Just saw this on darkhorizons.

Writing duo Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (M:I-3, TV's "Alias") are working on their next project the live action "Transformers" movie and during promotions for "The Legend of Zorro" over the weekend, the pair talked about their plans to IESB:

Question: So Megatron, tank or gun?

Answer: We are handling everything like a Supreme Court. We are taking everything in from the fans and taking it under judicial review. Treating every decision like it's law. I don't know how we can do it without making Megatron a tank...that's probably how where we're going to end up.

Question: So are you thinking Generation 1, Generation 2? Mixture of both?

Answer: A mixture actually, there will be a lot of G1 but also some new characters that people have never seen before.

Question: So there will be new characters.

Answer: Yes.

Question: Don Murphy wants the original voiceover actors is that something you guys have in mind?

Answer: We've been writing it with them in mind because since we we're fans that's the voices we have in our heads...I think its going to ultimately be up to Michael

Question: Will we see the homeworld (Cybertron)?

Answer: We are talking about that we would love to do that.

I really hope they get the original voice actors, that is something that would instantly bring me back to my childhood... but knowing Michael Bay, I am sure it will be some pretty boy hollywood assclown

Not at all. They got so much love that both are now the official TF cartoon Optimus and Megatron.

Michael Bay can make an excellent action sequence, it just usually doesn't fit with what the movie should have been [Island]. Transformers are obsurd, he'll fit right in.

There's nothing wrong with them. However, I'll still be disappointed if they don't use Cullen and Welker. They'll always be Optimus and Megatron, IMO.

I'm not even taking this movie serious. To me it's just like these crappy new versions of Transformers they keep throwing out there. Beast Wars was actually very good though, mostly because it was tied into the original series. Sadly, i'll still watch it on the first day it's out, but my expectations for it are as high as my expectations for the craptacular Transformers video games they make.

The Transformers on PS2 is excellent. Developed by Melbourne House (ATARI) too. (Yay for local games!)

Yes, TF PS2 is awesome. I got to the last level, but my save file got corrupted

Quite hard too. Lots of times you feel overwhelmed and in a hopeless situation, a little like Metal Arms

Megatron as a tank... <sigh> Ok not my first choice but I can deal... the original voice actors for Megatron and Optimus would go a long way towards making me feel better though....

i could live with megatron as a tank. it's forgiveable

As much as I love the original Gun Megatron (especially his robot charecter design). The problem of having him be a gun is that while transformed he ends up being a totally passive charecter (i.e. having the lead bad guy needing others to aim and fire him, doesn't make him appear to be that menacing.)

For dramitic purposes the tank works better. Heck as a tank they could probably say he was once an Autobot and betrayed them or something to flesh out his backstory a little more.
