I am sooooo totally fucking psyched. About 10-11 hours from now, Explosions will be hitting the stage and I will be blown away for the second time. I saw them last year in November and they're already one of my favourite live bands ever. They give SO much of themselves on stage and pour so much heart into their music that it's hard not to get excited before seeing them. Gah! So fucking amazing. I can't wait for the guitar wails, the amazing buildups, crescendos, cymbal smashes, driving drums, serene melodies...it's going to be amazing. I REALLY hope they play First Breath After Coma but I'd imagine that would be difficult to pull off live with the timing of the guitars and all. Blah...doesn't matter. I just want to hear whatever they throw my way.

I had a wicked night last night as well so this is turning out to be a truly amazing weekend. Explosions and a great girl by my side who totally understands the music as well. Awesome.

Explosions baby, YEAH!

There are some pics from a recent show here:

Yay for online communities.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
haha, I totally forgot about this band. I downloaded their album "Those Who Tell the Truth..." about a year ago off of emusic.com and listened to it maybe once. Listening to it now...pretty good stuff. What would you consider their best albums?

Uh... isn't that tomorrow night? (ie. October 11, assuming that you're still in Toronto)

I have a ticket, but I can't go... I have work the next day :(

Never heard this band's work before. Suggest some songs to diablows.

"First Breath After Coma"
"Greet Death"
"Time Stops"

You can choose any 3 songs basically and get a good idea on what their about. Their post-rock, instrumental, atmospheric, soundtracky, type of thing. Their songs are pretty long (averaging 7-9 minutes) Both "Earth is Not A Cold Dead Place" and "Those Who Tell The Truth..." are really good albums.

Been listening for a while.....are they an entirely instrumental band?

I think I know why I never listened to them....it's music like this that puts me in a sort of introspective mood, which always makes me a bit depressed, lol.

I think they have occasional speaking in their songs. I recall one song vividly having some sort of dialogue in the beginning. I don't find them depressing at all. (especially "Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place" which seems very optimistic)

This looks pretty hard rocking... it kind of ruined to rocking moment when the guy whipped out the tamborine, though. Surprising, the band seemed to have less of a hard rocking sound as more of a post-rock kind of thing. I'm confused by the pictures when I play the music.

First Breath After Coma
Yasmin The Light
The Only Moment We Were Alone
Your Hand in Mine

They only have 3 albums, the first being impossible to find (although it's allegedly going to be re-released "some time in the future"), and I really do think that they've gotten better with each effort. I would recommend getting The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place in its entirety.

Yes, they are purely instrumental, save for one track on Those Who Tell The Truth... where there is some dialogue ripped from a movie. (I think it's from The Thin Red Line)

But yes, amazing band.

Yeah, I'd like to see what parts of songs they are playing when striking those poses. I assume it's when they play the "swirling" guitar parts towards the end of some of their songs and most of them reach a pretty high energy climax. I have a link of two live videos of theirs which are really cool. Not sure if I'd be allowed to post it, but you can PM me if you want.

If you ever see them perform either "The Only Moment We Were Alone" or "Memorial" live, then you will know how they get to doing those poses. The guitar breakdowns at the end and the sheer power, force, and inspiration in them totally puts me over the edge, as much as the band. Seriously, the only way to experience this band live is to be right up front with them and let the sound blast your ears.

What type of venues do they play? Small club type stuff? I saw them one time play a book/CD store. Extremely odd to see so much effort but into their songs and the background seemed so casual.

I know the two videos you're talking about. It's definitely a little weird to see them play in such a confined space. They mostly play in smaller venues...bars and such that can fit a few hundred people. I do wish they were more popular, but at the same time it's cool to experience their amazing sound so up close and personal. I can imagine what a proper stage show with them would look like too...would be amazing but maybe not as powerful. I dunno. I think it would be super cool if they ever got to the popularity level of a band like Sigur Ros or something. Just to see how their stage show would change.

Yeah, imagine if Sigur Ros and EITS toured together? I was at Radio City Music Hall last night (saw Morrissey) and they have an awesome environment for stuff like this.

Hell, I'd like to see all my favorite groups play here compared to anywhere else in NY. Kick myslef when I didn't see Tool there.

Wow. That does look like an incredible venue. I would love to see a band like Explosions or Mogwai perform in an environment like that. Like you said, almost any one of your favourite bands would be great to see there. Maybe one day...

Well, they didn't get on stage 'til around midnight but it was soooo worth the wait. Here is the setlist as I remember it...

First Breath After Coma
Have You Passed Through This Night (2nd part, after the narration)
Memorial
With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Sleep
The Only Moment We Were Alone

The intensity at the end of Memorial was fucking INSANE. All 4 band members were totally pumped and gave it their all on stage. The front 3 were wailing on their instruments in unison with each big crash of sound and it was totally fucking awesome. It got so intense that Mike, the bassist, lost his bass strap but continued just holding his bass by the neck and SLAMMING the strings while jumping back and forth. Fucking. Badass. Seriously...amazing show. Explosions is amazing.
