I knew Sega was working on a new version of Virtua Fighter 5 and even if we already HAVE a ton of different versions....damn does Virtua Fighter 5 REVO hit! New models, roll back net code, 4K visuals...just the total package when it comes to Virtua Fighter 5....plus the open beta is live so you can play it on Steam today. Early impressions; legit good, few visual bugs, netcode is solid, needs a bit of improvement in a few spots

but Virtua Fighter 6 FINALLY announced? After 18 years since VF 5 first hit arcades? About damn time SEGA

who else has played the Open Beta yet? Might pop on this evening. VGEsoterica. Come hand me my ass and make fun of me haha

I’d love this on Xbox I have the xbla final showdown but Uber jealous of you ps5 and steam users (though I do have it on my ps4)
Been a fan since the og

By the way op keep up the content I love your vids

I just think it's weird that they do not have quick match. I would also enjoy starting side preference selection for match. Enjoying the experience otherwise even if that rank match sound effect hit me like a pile of bricks.

P.S. Is it just me or do the wake up attacks and ukemis have a delay? (Update fixed it.)

Man... Revo looks rough, can't wait for those 1993 animations and sound effects to finally get updated with VF6.

especially since in many ways they actually were downgrades over time.
You're right for the most part. In terms of features and general presentation there is no denying downgrades. However, playing Virtua Fighter 5 Online (Xenia), Final Showdown (PS3), and R.E.V.O. Beta (Steam) side by side I can firmly say there are things every version does really well. The original has in-depth Quest mode. Final Showdown has missions and special arcade ladders with themes, and a boss stage with 4 variations. R.E.V.O. has the cleanest image quality and best animations.

I just wish each version built upon the prior one instead of losing stuff over time.

also in many ways the PS4 port was a visual downgrade compared to the prior versions.
realtime planar reflections were replaced with reflection maps that aren't even perspective corrected, some arenas were changed to look less appealing (the temple being the worst offender), and some questionable character model changes

Yes, Final Showdown downgraded textures (due to rumored XBOX size constraints) and simplified lighting effects. Temple? Are we thinking of the same stage?

I am talking about the PS4 version being a visual downgrade, not Final Showdown.

the PS4 port had extremely simplified reflections, while the PS3/360 versions had real time planar reflections.
the temple I am talking about (called Satues apparently) was a vast fully reflective arena in the old versions, while it was a dark smaller scale one in the PS4 remaster, with the reflective surface removed (probably as to not put even more attention to how bad the reflections look in the game)

FS was an arcade game first though, was it downgraded in the arcade too?
Stage was changed to a raft with walls in prior R revision. The fidelity in the arcade version was much higher.

My bad. I did not realize you were talking about Ultimate Showdown. I only noticed the changed flames in the distance and overhead directional lighting not having a weird hue on Akira's stage. Even so, the planar reflections were never that impressive with the exception of water.

Thanks for the heads up. The open beta will continue until December 17th. I'm downloading it rn. Thread title could have been more specific to indicate that the open beta has started though.

I don’t fully understand rollback technology, but it seems to work well. I played many matches with around 130 ping, and it was quite enjoyable. Finding ranked matches takes a bit of time, but you can find players quickly in the available lobbies, even if there aren’t many. There’s also a lot of offline content to play, so it’s not just an online beta.

In the new game, I wish there was a feature like in Tekken where you could display the move list on the main screen in training mode.

Can't really play it on my laptop and to be honest I don't like VF5 that much anyway. Super excited about VF6 though. I just wish we could get new home ports of VF3 and VF4FT at some point.

Are you talking about those videos that had your character doing poses/animations?, I didn't see a difference between the two outside of some arcade specific modes.
There were these special intros for ranked battles with dynamic backgrounds and characters doing all sorts of poses. I am having trouble finding footage of them. I am certain that they are recycled from R. Here is an example:

P.S. The other footage was for showing difference in fidelity.

Yeah I remember those, I was mad when they didn't make it to the home release.

I had a lot of fun last night until someone decided to spam elbow dash with Akira. I couldn’t block or sidestep and just had to take all the damage helplessly :) Is there any counter for that?

I decided to refund Tekken 8 and buy this instead. It’s great both technically and visually, and it’s fun. Easy to learn, but hard (and fun) to master. No frustrating last second moves.

A few characters have parries and counters. With the right timing a low jab would probably stuff it as well.

He kept hitting me when I stand up, I had no time to react. It was awful.
There is directional ukemi a.k.a side roll (up/down+P+K+G immediately when you hit ground), low kick (down+K), mid kick (K), and delayed wake up (default). Presumably one of those options would give you enough room to do something else.

I decided to try Wolf again and they have not improved him a bit since they nerfed him into the abyss in Final Showdown by cutting a quarter of his moveset. No other character has ever felt so castrated. All those beautiful quick pokes, big throws, movement transitions into throws, stuns, and sweeps just gone. To add salt to the wound the best throws now require just frame execution that is borderline impossible on controller.

They've been nerfing him and Jeffry for a while, hoping it gets balance patches before its final send off.

Jeffry is still fire. I was in a match where a player took 75% of my health off a clean hit. I am a bit jealous as I can only manage 50% with him. It is too bad I did not record it because it was one hell of a show!

He can still dish it out, jeff was S tier in 5R at one point, truly scary stuff lol. That's my favorite thing about VF, low tier characters are still viable.

Can’t wait for 6.

I’d love to support this but I’ve had enough 5 to last me two lifetimes. I hope they aren’t expecting REVO to be a gauge of interest or used for budget to feed 6 development because it won’t amount to much.

It’s nice to have for super duper die hards, and a balance update is a nice touch.

Has anyone done a video on model comparisons?

They also released the best Sonic game in years and have the RGG studio working on a sick, darker tones Yakuza game and a pirate game. Not to mention Crazy Taxi being in the works.

They are on a wild run!
