Yeah,

The same retro cable place (florida) that sell all those cable sells the scart...you just gotta also get the adapter that switches the EU-to-J21. Those are another $20 (on top of $20 for the cable). Well worth it...if you have a Framemeister you should not be looking at S-Video unless it is a last resort.

The adapter that comes with the Frammeister is still J-21. He is still going to need the special Scart-J21 adapter that a lot of the retro sites sell specifically for the Framemeister/Mini. Also, the plug is not as fickle as that on the XRGB-3. Plugging in a Euro Scart will not fry it.

SCART will provide an even better picture quality, can't really argue with this. Even a decent third party SCART cable will provide a significantly better picture quality than the official S-Video cable from SEGA. Also, SCART does provide audio as well. I don't know about the Framemeister, but for the XRGB-3, make sure you're using a Japanese RGB SCART cable otherwise you will blow up your SCART port. Thanks for the replies, guys. I can actually damage the port by using the wrong cable? That's kind of nuts! According to this page it's the same cable whether it's US or Japan: http://www.retro-access.com/ourshop...-cable-for-NTSC-Japanese-US-model-Saturn.html

Yes it's kinda nuts, at least for the XRGB-3. I've been extra careful about this after I've read many post over plenty of forums where users said they screwed up their SCART port after connecting an euro SCART cable in it. Just like that. You connect it, you power on your console then it's already too late!

According to Yes Boss! it shouldn't be happening with your Framemeister, thank god! The cable you linked will cover your needs.

Going to be part of the HD club one day...

On that note, I think I want to track down RE1 Saturn, since that is the only RE game i've never played. My only experience with 1 is REmake, so i'd like to see how the first game truly was.

Also does D still hold up? I remember being really absorbed in it back in the day, but havent gone back in awhile.

It is pretty good...definitely in the top third of the shooters for Saturn. As a Tecno Soft product it is exceptional and probably my favorite of theirs.

Worth the high-ish price? Maybe. Good thing is that it will hold its value so that you can buy it and try it out for however long you want and if you hate it then just sell it. Plenty of buyers for the title.

That's the one nice thing about Saturn games. You're not likely to lose value over time.

I really need to get Hyper Duel. This is where hindsight is really 20/20. I could've bought many of these for like $50 at one time. :(

If only I could tell my younger self to buy more of them at that price (along with Alien Soldier).

So I'm kinda at a flashpoint. I've been wanting to get into Saturn since 1996, but for one reason or another I never did. I've got enough credit at a local shop to get a Wii U or a white Saturn with Dragon Force, Christmas Nights, and Virtua Fighter 2.

I feel that Hyper Duel is probably the best use of the Thunder Force horizontal scrolling shoot em' up formula. It's nestled nicely between TFIV and TFV. As well as the co-op play works here, I'm surprised that (to my knowledge) we never got a two player Thunder Force title. Co-op might be worth the price of admission alone.

It's a shame that Hyper Duel is so easy when compared to the Thunder Force series. Most of the game is a cake walk until a return to form in stage 6. Though maybe that has more to do with Stage 5 lulling you into a false sense of security than any actual difficulty. And Lloyd can be pretty game breaking if you know how to use him.

I would definitely recommend picking Hyper Duel up if you have the bread lying around. It's probably tied with Thunder Force IV for 2nd place in my list of favorite horizontal shoot em' ups. I doubt Einhander will ever be dethroned, at least in my opinion.

It is very easy, and it's also quite short compared to TFIV. Not as impressive graphically, either - even the revamped Saturn mode can't make up for the missing graphical effects like heavy parallax as seen in TFIV.

I haven't played Gate of Thunder yet (still in the mail), but on Hard and Devil it looks like a very close cousin of the Thunder Force games. Closer than HD IMO but then again I haven't actually played it yet.

That Wii U will still be around, easy to get, and inevitably much cheaper if you put it off. A White Saturn and Dragon Force will likely only get more expensive as time goes on.

Can you explain to me why do you feel like Einhander is the best shmup you have ever played? Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the game immensely but it isn't top 5 material, at least for me. I'm just curious.

Einhander is just my favorite horizontal style shmup. Far from my favorite overall shmup. I'm actually not a huge fan of horizontal shmups in general. I enjoy verticals much more.

Add: I actually couldn't stand that side (no pun intended) of the shmup genre for a long time. It wasn't until about a year ago, when I revisited Thunder Force III on the Genesis, that I started to appreciate side scrollers.

If we're talking about my favorite shmup ever, my heart belongs to Soukyugurentai.

As a huge fan of the Saturn, I'll point out that a better version of VF2 is on XBLA/PSN for $5 and that I see no reason that a Saturn + JP Dragon Force + JP Xmas Nights should cost you as much as a Wii U. There are cheaper ways of doing this.

Finally picked up a like new copy last year.
Been wanting to grab one for a long time now. Great game btw. reminds me a bit of Alisia Dragoon.
I've seen one in Yes Boss!'s pics before, so I know I'm not alone here. ;)

Something I think might even be rarer is a copy of Motteke Tamago for the PC-Engine.
It was never released as a retail release, but came with a copy of FC-Engine Fan.

I picked up this copy a couple of years ago and never came across it again. Didn't even knew it existed at the time.

One thing I like about this topic is that it has, for the most part, been devoid of trash-talk, and instead focuses on mutual love for video games (specifically Saturn ones, but nevertheless). If I needed to see people taking potshots at the Wii U, I have every other topic in Gaming for that.

Instead, let's talk about how great Dragon Force is. (At least, I would, but I've never played it...)

That first track made me think so very much of Skies of Arcadia.

One quick trip to Sega Retro confirms that Tatsuyuki Maeda did both games. (And Astal, which I'd never realized.) My interest in this game's soundtrack has just grown considerably.

Which game is better - Battle Garegga or Hyper Duel?

Probably pick them both up while I'm in Japan, but I don't know much about either. Assumed due to price and name Hyper Duel was a kusoge but the comments here are fairly positive.

Anyone have DeliSoba Deluxe? :)
